Just heard the news straight from the Head of Engine Development on the new 997, that there will be 'no more RMS engine issues on the 911'. That's a promise apparently.

wow, it only took them ten years to finally address the issue and correct it instead of playing the "RMS? I don't know what you are talking about" game while unofficially bringing out patch that promised to solve the issue year after year that never solved the problem though this time I believe its true due to the long awaited redesign which was the only way to correct their design error.

Well on the positive side at least it now sounds like a serious solution has been achieved, otherwise I am sure he wouldn't have been so affirmatory in his answer this evening.

What event are you referring to? What else was stated?

Re: New 997 - full specs

Yet another small fragment of evidence falls into place that IMHO indicates that the Mk2 997TT will get a twin-turbo charged version of the Carrera S engine rather than the GT1 derived version.

My apologies, I thought everyone realised that today is the international press launch of the new 997. Chris Harris from our team is busy acquainting himself with the new car and has been passing me the information as he discovers it.

Re: New 997 - full specs

I think the buttons are very easy to get used to, and the buttons on both sides of the steering wheel are there for someone who tends to be either right-handed or left handed, and possibly (even more likely) to make shifting even easier for someone taking either right or left turns when on a track. That way, one can learn to use both "thumbs" for shifting up or down. I have a feeling that this latter reason was why Porsche engineers went with the button system.

It's exactly right. I have similar paddles on my '08 C6 and it works great.

On that basis i would have a choice of where I had my manual gear shift lever. Being left handed with your logic I should be able to have it on the left hand side of the car.

Our interview with Porsche about the RMS issue, together with an amazing video of the 997 engine on its test rig is now published.

    http://viewer.zmags.com/showmag.php?mid=grdfp&preview=1&_x=1#/page6/

We will be adding the full test rig videos later, because they are fascinating to watch. This is how Porsche are feeling so confident they have sorted the RMS issue. Amazing isn't it?

Re: New 997 - full specs

    Steve,
Nice and honest review by Chris Harris.
Interesting enough his opinion about PDK almost mirrors opinion from my Motorpresse friend...

Hi Kreso, that's good to know.

What did you think of the test-rig video? Mad isn't it?

We have several more that we will upload that run for much longer.

    Hi Steve,

Very nice one. Just a shame that Porsche did not provide manual cars as well.

PDK specially in Sport and Sport Plus can unsettle the car rear axle and make it very prone to oversteer which is bad thing. It is very nice and honest from Chris that he wrote his true opinion-my regards to him!

It seems to me that manual is the way to go after all for 997.2 true enthusiast(same thing with R8 manual is way better choice then R Tronic IMHO).

We will be getting a car to drive more extensively, so will try to delve a little deeper into which gearbox suits the 997 more, plus which is the most sporting configuration.

The press cars that Porsche have made available were initially all PDK, so it's been difficult to answer within the limited time period of a launch.

Re: New 997 - full specs

    Thanks Steve!

    Great stuff.
