    German Auto Zeitung tomorrow's issue... Pretty positive one... Car looks better on AZ pics then on official Porsche pics...

    Looks proportionate though, when you look at the 993 for example. Those mirrors are pretty large as well.

    I think 997 MKII looks great all around, I really like it. Everything is perfectly in proportion . All remains is the performance and I may drop the R8 and wait in the list .

    Yah, it looks alot like the front end of a pre-facelift Boxster S. Which in my opinion is quite nice.

    If you want PDK then change your R8 for FL997. Otherwise, R8 is a more charismatic sportscar to drive and IMHO a better drivers car.
    FL997 is great car. Just R8 has real dry sump engine, not Porsche marketing "integrated dry sump" in translation wet sump engine...
    Ideal situation is to have both R8 as manual and 997 Carrera as PDK. YES, basic Carrera with SPASM and PDK. I saw German price list and IMHO S is not good enough for additional Euro 8K with same equipment.

    AZ drive impression is pretty positive. PDK very good also...

    Impressions from my Motorpresse friend(he was also on intro):
    -SPASM great(like small GT3!) just it will be too hard for some people
    -new engine better overall, specially at low revs. But, not as good at low revs as R8 for example
    -PDK... Mixed feelings... Puddles clear nightmare for use, in his opinion for ergonomic at all. LC totally useless in his opinion(he said gimmick for kids). D mode excellent, nice, smooth shifts, as good as good autobox. Manual mode smooth as well but, not very fast(he said that he is faster in his 997 GT3). Sport mode faster and smooth enough at the same time. Sport mode with PASM in standard position is overall best solution for spirited driving. Sport Plus mode is actually SMGIII like. Shifts not so smooth and apparently some extra remapping at ECU. That mode is not good for everyday driving.
    One not so good thing on press cars(reamins to be seen will it be the same on costumer cars)-despite usage of Sport or Sport Plus mode gearbox AI can override your manual puddle input and makes their own shifting decision! Annoying as possible he said... Also if you do NOT shift manually for some times(period of time is actually very short) PDK AI decide it is time for ITS control over gearchanges... It is learing gearbox so, your drive style will actually be incorporated after sometimes in his AI...
    All in all-his advice: personal test drive of PDK is a MUST. Longer test drive if possible...

    PDK is a very good automatic (much much better than tip definitely. I may add that for 95% of carrera drivers it will be better than manual too, faster and with more possibilities during spirited driving. Ok, the 5% or maybe less of the top 911 drivers who also track fanatically might choose the manual version. The rest will have no advantage with manual besides boosting their ego.

    I might now need to admit that confort for my daily driving is becomming important ... I' m getting old, but thaught it would not happen to me

    On all the R8 talk how good is fuel consumption. I have the same engine in my RS4 and the kid drinks. Much more than my GT3. The MKII 997 can be driven below 10L/100km which is amazing in my view.

    Never mind. Do you remember the scream of the Ferraristi when they first saw puddles, err, paddles instead of their beloved open gate shifter?
    And what does still remain of that today?

    I think we will see a similar trend concerning PDK.

    Summery from AZ article:

    -they drove Carrera with SPASM, PCCB and PDK
    -new engine more powerfull but, sound is with higher note
    -PDK very good, NO need for manual gearchanges since auto mode works better(even in Sport Plus mode). In Sport Plus mode there is even a kick at the rear...
    -SPASM pretty hard and driver needs to be very carefully

    All in all 997.2 is a better car.
