International Cultural Exchange: BREAK IN Procedur

Since a car shipped to, for example, the UAE supposedly has different requirements for engine "break in" compared to the USA and other countries let's compare them!

Let's compare what manuals across various Porsche importing countries say about "Break In Hints."

If it's not too much trouble it would be very interesting if you could please post what is written for your country (if different from USA/Canada).

Here's what the USA/Can manual says:

Re: International Cultural Exchange: BREAK IN Proc

Always wait til engine oil up to temp then drive it like you stole it...

    Unofficial UK advice

Re: International Cultural Exchange: BREAK IN Proc

so whats the official uk advice :P

Re: International Cultural Exchange: BREAK IN Proc

In france unwritten breaking procedure advice : Go gradually up to 4500rpm the first few hundreds (500-600km) kilometers to bed the brakes and engine. After that drive it like you stole it. Always a gently warmup, whatever the conditions, breaking in the car or not. Note that for the best breaking in, it is best to vary RPM meaning that highway is not the place for breaking in the car.

Re: International Cultural Exchange: BREAK IN Proc

We need the actual owner's manual's page from each country that's different. No hearsay. HELP!

Re: International Cultural Exchange: BREAK IN Proc

Although I fully endorse Mex99's methods, this is from the UK Manual.

Re: International Cultural Exchange: BREAK IN Proc

just wondering what I will do when i pick up my new car - i will be using it for work and its only 2.5miles away..... will it not be wise to use it like this until ive done 2000miles?

Re: International Cultural Exchange: BREAK IN Proc

For what it is worth, my advice....

    Forget the 2000 miles seriously.

2.5 miles is non ideal - build a 10 mile route to and from work (you will ;ove driving anyway) for the first few trips and if you want me to be serious keep varying the revs between 2 and 5 thousand - changing gear at least every 2 mins. Do this for a couple hundred miles (say 500) then (as I said before) always wait til engine oil up to temp then drive it like you stole it.

Hit max revs at least daily.... makes life worth living!!!

Re: International Cultural Exchange: BREAK IN Proc

    sounds good to me

was also thinking once broken in like that - drive to work directly 2 or 3 days and the other days take a long route..... sound good?

Re: International Cultural Exchange: BREAK IN Proc

    Yep
