This should not be a surprise to anyone. I believe close to 150 Cyclist have died in this race from the date its inception.These guys are basically sitting on an engine traveling close to 200mph. More will die but at least they can say they died doing what the love as crazy as that may sound.
Sad indeed. This is why I was into motocross when I was young...worst thing happening was usually a broken leg, arm, hand or rib. Or all of them together. 
Actually almost went pro right before I found my passion for cars... Glad I didn't. A friend of mine did that and ended in bankruptcy (well, his parents).

You solved the mystery! Now it all makes sense. The 20:20 vision, the krav maga triple black belt, the IT crack, the rally car career, the motocross career, the super high speed driving with eyes shut on autobahn, ...
I could go on and on but at some point the forum server will throw a java.servlet.OverAchievementException and die.

Nah, my buddy was Batman. Batshit crazy and he is still alive. 
I switched to cars at age 18 and went pro at age 20...well, for a year or so but at least I can say I was a pro. However, if a season costs you around 50k DM (at that time) private money and your parents don't want to support your career anymore (they wanted me to study), things don't always work out for you.

You're just envious... 
Btw: There is no Krav Maga triple black belt, I am Master Level 1 now, was actually 2 at some point then fell back because of an irregularity (long story). 3 is highest...not even close to getting there 
and probably never will because I barely train anymore (too much work, kids, family, age ...).
I never had a motocross career, only a rally career (group N with Lancia).
I never drive with eyes shut on the Autobahn (this wouldn't really go with the 20/20 vision, would it? ), I am a good driver but not an idiot.

Nah, it would only throw a java.servlet.UnderAchievementException. The OverAchievementException only occurs to me.

Fantastic 18min film on the Isle of man TT that gives a look inside the event and the riders point of view. God I miss bikes. Anyway, epic must watch video.

taking my .2RS lizard to the Isle of Man in 3 weeks :-)
You'll love it.
I lived there for a few months about 15 years ago.
If you want a guide over the mountain and a chat with a die-hard 911 driver, my best friend lives on the Island. He is the course Island record holder at both Hillclimb and Drag Racing in his 991 TurboS and currently has a gorgeous red 991 GT2 RS out there. I'm sure he'd be happy to meet-up, if you drop me some details.
