    QR Comparison : Scud vs 997 GT2 vs LP560 vs GT-R

A nice comparison in the upcoming issue of italian Quattroruote, to be released by the end of the month. The test driver is Alain Prost.

There are already some unofficial results and GT-R haters will be very happy.

    Vairano track :

    Scud - 1:15,1s
    GT2 ~ 1:15,2s (allegedly "very close")
    LP560 - 1:15,6s
    GT-R ~ 1:19s

Prost was allegedly not satisfied with the GT-R handling and couldnt believe this car can lap the Ring in 7:29.

    0-1000m took the GT-R about 22 seconds.

Take it with a grain of salt as these results are not official. We gotta wait.

ooh they give finally a stock gt-t for a test :P

Re: QR Comparison : Scud vs 997 GT2 vs LP560 vs GT

    Seems so.

Re: QR Comparison : Scud vs 997 GT2 vs LP560 vs GT

So, if these results are true(I heard same rumor as you from some italian guys) then R8 is little bit faster on Vairano then GT-R...

BTW, EU wieght seems to be 1750kg...

Re: QR Comparison : Scud vs 997 GT2 vs LP560 vs GT

R8 already was neck and neck with the GT-R in latest edmunds test.

If these results are true, we are looking at the worst GT-R test results so far. In the very first EU test. (dunno what version they were testing though)

Re: QR Comparison : Scud vs 997 GT2 vs LP560 vs GT

Good. I was getting tired of that GT-R euphoria.

LP560 in 1:15,6s ? Not bad at all. Makes me think that the Superleggera version is going to be one hell of a car...

Re: QR Comparison : Scud vs 997 GT2 vs LP560 vs GT

Maybe they tested a grey import that hasn't got the nring crushing euro 'tweaks'

Re: QR Comparison : Scud vs 997 GT2 vs LP560 vs GT

I am already hearing Nick saying that because A. Prost used to drive rear-enginded / rear-wheel-drive cars (Formula 1) he can not master front-engined / all-wheel-drive ones.

The rumour is that Prost was promised to be given the Scud, the LP560 and 997 GT2 from each factory if he makes the GT-R lose. They all know that otherwise the GT-R would crush them all with a time under 1:15.

Re: QR Comparison : Scud vs 997 GT2 vs LP560 vs GT

The Nissan GTR is the Hilary Clinton of cars these days. The car that we love to hate for all the same reasons that we love to hate her. Ugly, but somehow on top till a point.

That is really a disservice to the GTR...

I am not an advocate for the GT-R. All I ask for is some objectivity. Porschephiles went ballistic when the GT-R seriously spanked all their 911'sand began to allege every conspiracy theory known to mankind.

This test result seems to be an aberration based on most if not all prior tests. Recall the 997TT test result in this same test. It was almost dead last in most performance areas. I believe most on this board attributed the poor performance to a sick car.

Regardless of what EUROPEAN drivers find, there is no denying the fact that the GT-R is the performance value of this and past centuries.

Re: QR Comparison : Scud vs 997 GT2 vs LP560 vs GT

So, Alain Prost hates GT-R and he is in your opinion wrong?

    OK, if you think so...

BTW, there are other sportscars, not only Porsches... I agree here with you. Just it seems to me that you have some kind of agenda against all EUROPEAN sportscars manufactures these days...

No I wrote that the test result was an aberration not wrong. Correct me if I am wrong but didn't the 997TT do very poorly against the 430 and Gallardo in a similar test?

Regarding my comments about European drivers, with the exception of some British test, I find rather strange that whenever the GT-R is test by them the car fails miserably.

BTW, how is it that the Scud can beat the GT2 in this test and yet have a substantially slower time at the Ring compared to the GT2?

Re: QR Comparison : Scud vs 997 GT2 vs LP560 vs GT

Vairano is very different track from the Ring. Ring likes high power and turque, Vairano likes very precise handling and good traction... Scud NA engine offers way more linear power delivery then GT2s(or GT-Rs) turbo engine...
    Should I continue?

Kreso, I assumed the track had something to do with it. Regarding the GT-R, a four sec. margin on a little over a minute track is huge. Hell probably that Boxster would do as well (1.19).

it's an italian magazine and prost was employed by ferrari...

jokes aside, shorter tracks are favourable to lighter cars. the scud is lighter than the gt2. on the longer n'ring, the turbo could play out it's trump card: torque.

besides....i think they did equal times. if prost blinked one time more in the gt2 than the scud it would already explain for the difference of 0.01 second

    Nick,
On recent comparison test by Edmunds GT-R was only marginally faster on the track then Audi R8.

Also, on EVO Bedford track R8 was just 0.4s slower then GT-R...

How is all that possible? Are Edmunds, EVO and Quattroruote all liers?

Of course not... BUT, you belive to Nissan and T.Suzuki's lap...

My opinion:GT-R is very fast and capable only in T.Suzuki hands and in HIS Ring specs...

    Partly agreee.

The GT-R here might not be in the very best condition again. It happens from time to time, even to other marques including Porsche.

We need to see more European test. We can not judge by one test.

When the QR tested the 997 TT they did this results :

    0-100 - 4,2s
    0-160 - 9,6s
    0-200 - 15,3s

    And the ZO6

    0-100 - 4,5s
    0-160 - 9,1 s
    0-200 - 14,4s

Way off all the other results.

As to performance of the GT-R, the very first test in Japan, done by an institute seems to have credible results. They firstly seemed slow in comparison with those from CaD, but now its becoming clear thats where the performance of the car is.

    0-100km/h - 3.83s
    0-400m - 11.82s at 193.3km/h
    0-1000m - 21.51s at 245.5km/h

    0-160km/h - cca 8.2s
    0-200km/h - cca 12.5s

    test car odo - 4500km

I think this is what the GT-R can do in the straight line. (Almost) as fast as 997 Turbo up to 200km/h and then the turbo starts to pull away. Not really a shattering performance, but very nice for a 75k euro car.

Re: QR Comparison : Scud vs 997 GT2 vs LP560 vs GT

Full test will be in July or August issue of QR...

Re: QR Comparison : Scud vs 997 GT2 vs LP560 vs GT

    Yes, 2-3 weeks to go.

Re: QR Comparison : Scud vs 997 GT2 vs LP560 vs GT

For the conspiracy theorists, Prost is french, Nissan is owned by Renault, a french company...

The GTR is faster, faster than the 997TT, which is great. But the 7.29 NBR lap is not believable.

If these test results should be confirmed we were absolutely right in bashing Nissan's marketing lies The test would be the best prove that only independant magazine tests are worth discussing. OEM claims are BS most of the time.

Well if you must know, he has problems with turbos which are AWD.
