    Pirelli P-Zero Rosso for 997 C2S

    Hi all,

    Just ordered a full set of these for my 997 C2S to replace the Bridgestone Potenza tires that came as OEM. I've heard good reports about the P-Zeros but just wondered if anyone on here had any real world experience of running them on a 997 C2S. 295/30/19 for the rear. 235/35/19 for the front.

    Any opinions greatly appreciated!

    My understanding is that P-Zero's are great on the track but wear out pretty quick as a result.

    No, I was not comparing any track semi-slicks.

    Grip order is supposed to be:

    P-Zero Rosso > Michelin PS2 > Bridgestones

    And that's also the order at which they wear at.

    For me, the PS2's are all round the best tyres.

    Don't think that rossos or PS2s are thought of as being "track semi-slicks".

    I still think that you had P zero corsas and PS Cups in mind.

    I think the Bridgestone's are meant to be better in colder situations, and they are a lot cheaper.

    My experience is limited to Bridgestones and Michelin's in 997s. My personal preference is the Michelin's.

    No, the 3 typical road options for 997s are listed in my comparison link above.

    As I said, I am NOT considering track tyres.

    I have Bridgestone's on my Turbo right now (from factory) and I will switch for PS2's when they start to wear out.

    German magazine Sport Auto recently tested tyres on a Techart 997S.

    PS2 was the best tyre in dry conditions, the new P-Zero almost as good but much better in the wet. These two were clearly above the rest.

    I had both Michelin PS Ribs and Pirelli Rosso on my previous 996/C4. I liked the Rossos a lot.

    I've used all three. From my perspective, as a street tire, I really can't say I've experienced major differences among them. Certainly not in warm, dry weather traction where they are all outstanding. Nor in cold, dry weather traction; where they are all pretty mediocre; unpredictable if you push them (as are all "summer" tires).

    In the wet I think there is a slight difference, I feel the PZero provides better traction and has less of a tendency to aquaplane than the others. It really is a very good wet weather tire and I've pushed it beyond where I would have the other two.

    The Pirelli does have a tendency to form flat spots very quickly; even a day parked is enough for this. But it only usually takes about 10-20 miles before they go away. Not a big deal; but I never had a similar issue with either Bridgestone or Micheline; either seems to take a couple of days instead of just overnight.

    In terms of wear, they all wear fast. Especially the rears. I don't think I've done better than 12k miles on any of them.

    Finally, I think the PZero tends to follow even minor road imperfections a bit more than either of the others.

    Pirelli looks better than the Michelin. I don't like how the Michelin looks stretched compared to a proper fit look of the Pirelli.

    Only thing i can tell based on my experience: "after few thousand km they get pretty weared and the noise they make is so high that you can summon death people..."

    They get noisy but a good all around tire. 2 track days and 25,000 miles....still haven't reached the wear bars.

    I had the P-Zero Rosso's on my S and recently switched them out with the PS2's. I wish I'd stayed with the Pirelli. The PS2 is more comfortable, but for me, the P-Zero's grip better and I found turn-in to be better. My dealer couldn't get the Pirelli in N1 spec, hence the switch to Michelin. The PS2 is a good tire, but based on my experience I do not believe it's reputation is entirely justified. FWIW the PS2 was cheaper than the P-Zero.

    I believe PZ is made in Italy and the PS2 is made in France, are they?
    For automobile, I believe in Italy more than France!!

    My car came with P-zero's. They started to get a bit noisy at around 12k. They now have 15K and I will be replacing them tomorrow, I believe I could probably get another 1-1.5K out of them. I drove about 70% highway.

    Great tires in my opinion. So far 19,300 miles and still going strong per the "15,000 mile servicing" I had a couple weeks ago. I have taken them on pan-European and cross country USA tours. In all conditions (dry, wet, snow) they have exceeded my expectations. I am not an agressive driver, though have chosen my moments to test their stickiness. Road noise is more than the Michelin's according to those who have driven both. But since these were the shoes she came with, it is noise I consider part of the car's acoustics.

    I drive agressivly.
    In this pace they last 9-11.000 K.
    They need some time to warm up but then you can rely entirly on them.
    I would not change them.

    @Sato - appreciate your comments on the P-zero Rosso's. I have them on my new C2S, with 305 rears on the Carrera Sport wheels. I'm a real newbie with these sports car tyres and was wondering what your, or others, experience is in winter driving (cold weather and standing water on the road surface). I know it will be road and conditions specific, but do you end up having to crawl along the highway at 50mph in heavy rain, or are the comments on reducing speed still mean you can keep up with the 70mph+ flow of traffic.

    Having driven more in UK and Europe than the US, I know that in some places (for example driving through Belgium coming off the channel ferry or tunnel) there are long flat stretches of road with "tramlines" from heavy truck traffic. Has this been a problem for anyone, any nasty aquaplaning experiences ??

    For wet, rather than ice or snow conditions, do any of you change tyres for summer vs. winter driving ?

    The P-Zero Rosso's feel fine in the wet. I am comfortable in 70mph+ flow during moderate rains (actually put them to the test on a rain-filled dash from Montreal to Mont Tremblant). Torrential downpours cause me to slow dramatically due to visibility, lack of faith in fellow drivers, and just not wanting to push my luck on the sports. My rears are 295 on Sport Design wheels, so there is a slight reduction in potential for aquaplaning.

    They did surprisingly well in the cold/wet/snow when I was in Montana/Wyoming/Colorado last year on the return legs of my cross-country. All that said, I know I will not be the fastest on the road in sketchy conditions. I leave that to the daredevils.

    I do have Continental Winter Contact TS810's for winter driving, which I'll put on when avg temps drop below 40F.

    I was caught in a torrential down pour on the highway and was very surprised as to the amount of grip the PZeros had. It felt very stable and had no hydroplaning issues.

    TimN, you're right about the flat spots on the PZeros. Each time I took my car out, I had to drive it a bit to get rid of them. Even when parked a couple of days.
