Late to this discussion.  First, sorry to hear about noone1 and his expulsion.  While being targeted by several of his sharp-tongued retorts, it became obvious he was a child, age-related or otherwise, in his maturity.  It is unfortunate that many believe the Internet offers a level of anonymity and hence one can be as uncivil toward others as possible.  

Second, on your daughter’s car saga, the BMW X2 seems well-suited to her demands.  It’s safe, a Mini with another badge, and it would annoy her brother.  

 I still think that I am getting her a simple Countryman with auto and AWD but we'll see... Thanks.

i think is the better choice..i have a SD one and is a great car,totally different than the old model,more refined,i think is perfet for her.

Even though that's very high output for a production 4-cyl, it won't drive at all the same as a V-8 making the same power and torque (though it will handle better with less weight in the nose)...

I hated how the current version drove, can’t imagine how the 450 hp version would feel.

The current 381 hp engine in the previous model is surprisingly good...  Of course this is no n/a engine and has a small displacement but not bad at all.

It felt and sounded very artificial, wasn’t impressed at all.

I think we are getting this (exactly this one in the photo) for my daughter...no AMG.

Lease is quite "cheap" for a car of this value (53k EUR), it is fully loaded, 180 hp Diesel engine with 9-speed ZF auto and has even Euro 6-temp certification.

0-100 kph in 9.0 seconds, top speed 190 kph, very nice and safe ride, even has torque vectoring and some sort of "PDCC", six airbags, I was quite surprised to see such a "package" at this price from Range Rover. Car also looks much more expensive than it is, the synergy effect of the more expensive Range Rover models.

At first I thought Range Rover is flooding the German market with "old" Diesel models, to get rid of them but then I realized this is the new 2019 model with a 6d temp Diesel engine.

I saw the Evoque Black Edition ads a couple of weeks ago but never really looked at them because I couldn't imagine that you could get such a car at such a low lease rate.

The dealer also has a 240 hp fuel petrol engine version but no Black Edition and we don't like how it looks (too much chrome/silver stuff and silver rims). Lease rate would be identical.

Buying makes no sense to me, especially when it comes to cars. I rent (lease) a car for a fixed period of time and I know how much this costs me 100%. Huge advantage since I just drop off the car at the dealership after the lease ends.

Especially nowadays, with fast changing emissions laws and changing car markets, buying a somewhat "normal" car is a huge risk.

A friend of mine switched from his three years old Skoda Yeti to a BMW X1 and lost a ton of money in the process because his car has that stupid VW Diesel engine. He never wants to get a VW product again.

Cheap leases are the way to go. The best way to raise your kids is the he teach them to ask for things like this ... what do I need to do to earn xyz?  As a parent I always provided a thoughtful answer and if they did what I asked they would get it.  Works like a charm.

Why not finding her a job, summer one even, let her get some money and then help her to buy her own car? pay her own fuel bill and insurance. being a young adult  in short

giving her a 50+Ke car is not super responsible for her future and the life she is going to face in the very near future except if you are ready to pay all your life for her... good results at school is not nice or super hero achievement, it is mandatory for your future.

you are sad about your boy complaining about pick up in Porsche car but you are getting a clueless driver a 180hp brand new SUV no logic here. What will be the reaction of his friends when her sister will pick him up with that fancy stuff?

Get yourself this car if you like it (horrible and not reliable by the way ) but make your daughter aware of her responsabilities. she is 18 not 12. you are talking about a weapon of 1.6 ton in the hand of a clueless driver. for a driver which qualify himself as very good and able to foresee, this is rather irresponsible.

My first ride was a Kawasaki KH125cc.. My dad guarantor the loan on it, he said if “‘I didn’t keep up the bloody payments he would wheel it back to the shop’’ . Always remember the damn Lombard Tricity Finance payments booklet, it was as thick as an old telephone directory. Well, 36 payment slips, think each slip was around £30.

This small sized SUV with 180 hp does 0-100 kph in around 10 seconds. Not a big deal.

It is very safe (5 stars Euro NCAP) and me and my wife will use it as well.

My daughter is preparing to go to university, we don't even know if and where she is going to need a car.

In my family, we always rewarded good school work, it is a mentality kind of thing. Also keeps kids away from trouble because if they concentrate on (school) work, they don't think about doing stupid things.

You remind me of my daughter's best friend father: He warned me that I spoil her too much. His daughter messed up her final school exams, she drinks a lot of alcohol and is already with her third boyfriend. At 17. My daughter is a very good and bright kid, she deserves everything she achieved (and got from us) so far.

You may or may not agree but I guess to each his own. My parents and my wife's parents did the same, again...a mentality thing...and I think we both are doing great. Son is similar, good boy, never in trouble and very bright (although not as diligent as his sister but boys are like that.

Or to make it short: Give me the courtesy of knowing my kids well and what is good for them. 😎

When it comes to cars and children my number one priority is safety, not if its expensive or not, period, That means  NEW car with all the latest active and passive safety systems and not a 10 year old hand me down. And whether the car can spoil the kid depends not on the pricetag of the car but on the kid and how he was raised, so lets lets Christian some credit. 

Also, before we criticise her driving a SUV as a novice driver (I wasnt aware there was a kerb weight/driver experience ratio) she may be a novice driver but will probably be safer at the wheel on that car that many of us were with her age, I know I was stupidly reckless with sportbikes and cars at her age, and I'm sure in not the only one.

just visit any insurance company in France (sure it is the same in Spain) with this kind of car in mind and novice driver see the result

the only chance to ensure it is under somebody else name. there is a reason why insurance limit the number of HP and the possible price of the car...litigation and exposure.

in France, everything above 90-100hp will be nearly impossible to ensure or at a price tag of 5 ferrari's...

never needed a car for Uni going from home to room/studio/appartment needs a transport as train, car or plane. then from your place to Uni it is usually normal to take public transport.

well I have tons of stories which state the opposite with some ex-spoiled kids unable to even get their own food now... and constantly fed by wire transfer from parents. The neighborhood is not the benchmark.
