    430 Scuderia versus 430 Spider

If you had the choice of either, and you live in a country where it rains 60 days a week, which one would you go for? and which one you think will retain more value? I won't be tracking the car, and this is my 1st such Ferrari, besides an F355 in 1999, and a 365 GTC4 just last year... Thanks

Re: 430 Scuderia versus 430 Spider

    scud. absolutely no question

Re: 430 Scuderia versus 430 Spider

come on !!!! no question . Scud is the way to go for u !

Re: 430 Scuderia versus 430 Spider

Only reason I might choose not to have Scud would be to get great gated manual shifter...

    or a 997 GT2

Re: 430 Scuderia versus 430 Spider

I have not driven the Scud but spent a lot of driving time in the 360CS. No doubt the hardcore 430 Scud is a performance car but if your interested in the "fun factor" get yourself a Spider. With the top down, engine and exhaust roar behind you, the wind and outside noise swirling around you there in NOTHING to match the Spider for shear fun and exhiliration.

The CS was exciting to drive for about a 1/2 hour then it became too raw. Between the ride and road noise invading the cabin it does not take long to get a headache. NO doubt a great track car but for city driving forget it.

Re: 430 Scuderia versus 430 Spider

Nick might be right, but I'd still take the Scud every time.

I remember the pics of your beautiful 365 GTC4. What happened to it, do you still have it or have you sold it?

Re: 430 Scuderia versus 430 Spider

The asphalt in Beirut is similar to the one in Riyadh. Its very fine and slippery. You'll be losing a lot of grip on take offs, so the advantage of the more powerful scud will be rendered useless. I would consider the 4 wheel drive Gallardo 560 if I was you.

60 days a week? I'd go with an Amphicar..

    if it rained that much.

    Definitely a Scuderia.

Re: 60 days a week? I'd go with an Amphicar..

Nick is right... If you're not going to track it, and want to have fun at legal speeds too, then go for the Spider - it's a no brainer. Though the Scud will probably hold it's value better in the long term.

60 days of rain is small - come to England and see how much rain we have... but we still have a lot of convertibles!

In my part of the world, a week has only 7 days .

    Yeah, 60 days a week .

Re: 60 days a week? I'd go with an Amphicar..

I'd take the scud at MSRP, sell it at "market" and buy a GT3RS plus something else for cruising. Lol

Have you thought about the F142?

F430 Spider is fine, but it's quite an old car, especially if compared to the 599 and now even California. Scuderia is best you can get from that old concept, but it's very raw, usable for sunny Sunday morning driving and track experiences mainly.

F142 may just be what you want: at least as quick as the Scuderia, new technology as California, totally new design. Expect price to be slightly below Scuderia, so that would fit as well.

Re: 430 Scuderia versus 430 Spider

If you will use the car on the road and partly for posing (no offence meant) in Lebanon, go for the Spider, preferably in Yellow. If you are not very anxious, wait for the California, which will fulfill the role of the fast and exclusive sportscar/poseur machine even more effectively than the 430.

Re: 430 Scuderia versus 430 Spider

the F142 will be introduced in paris 2009, i.e. delivery early 2010 for the berlinetta... the spider will follow and be delivered early 2011... so that's out of the question... as for the F149, i AM GREATLY DISAPPOINTED... don't see it as a true ferrari... more like a Benz SL or maserati... VERY DISAPPOINTED with the design... honestly?? the car ain't for posing... posing in such a car around here can do me more harm than good... on the other hand, i can drive it hard late at night or early sunday mornings... and it's the exclusivety of the scud and its rawness that is appealing to me... plus the fact that I got it at probably the lowest MSRP in the world, in USD, and i can resell it a year later and turn a profit... but still, a 430 spider makes more sense for lebanon... and an LP560 spider (when out), would even make more sense! I'm just worried of not being able to make the most out of a scud around here...

Buy a Scuderia ASAP (when will that be? early 2009?), drive it for one year and decide after the presentation of the F142 if you want to get it or not. Perhaps you will have enough of the race car feeling of the Scuderia by then or OTOH you are not interested in the softer F142 at all. Either way, you can't go wrong.

Get the 430 spider in yellow then. The scuderia is more of a track car and more raw but if you opt for the spider you will not be getting a soft car anyway. On the kind of routes I envisage you will be enjoying the car, a 430 spider makes more sense IMO.

Re: 430 Scuderia versus 430 Spider

I may be speaking for only myself but...I suspect that 99% of the drivers overestimate their driving ability. I highly doubt that the average or above-average driver here can push the limits of a F430 Spider. So to say only the Scuderia will suffice as far as performance is to overrate one's own driving skills. That is like a golfer who has a swing speed of 85 mph trying to choose between a Stiff and Extra-Stiff shaft when he should be swinging a Regular flex shaft. Only a very select few Tour players should be swinging an Extra-Stiff shaft.

Basically IMO 99% of the drivers here will not miss any "performance" with the Spider but they will miss the fun and excitement, as well as the all-important "poseur" value if they go with the Scud.

I agree. But I suspect many people wouldn't want to admit this.

Having said that, I haven't driven either of these 2 cars so I couldn't comment from actual experience. Some of the guys here have driven both and can therefore speak more authoritatively.

Thats true til you reach the ages of late 30s/early 40s and thats when it downs on you that you've been an average driver all along. Of course when you are in your 50s or 60s you realize that you were even bellow average!

However no matter what age you are if you are a lebanese you'll allways think you are better than Schumi.
