    First cayenne

Hi guys/gals... i linger on this board from time to time , sort of info gathering.Anyway i'll cut to the chase ...have just sold a boxster s , after owning a couple of 911's and am purchasing my first 4x4 , a Cayenne.

    1. is there likely to be much difference in real world driving to warrant buying the cayenne s over the V6.

2.I've heard that the cayennes fuel consumption figures are very heavy....what is the norm for everyday useage

3.Has anyone experienced any major problems that the main dealer is not likely to tell me about

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

    Re: First cayenne

    1: I would say get the S

2: I dont think the fuel consumption figures are very heavy... hey it takes me from boston to ny and i still have a almost a quarter of a tank left

3: No major problems.... Only minor fixes

    Re: First cayenne

Thanks for the input jamy85 , much appreciated.

Well lots of you have read the thread but it was obviously not interesting enough for you to waste your time making a comment to help me out , i might not return the favour someday

    Re: First cayenne

    Sorry taffy.

Rennteam has been down for a couple of days so it might take some time for everyone to see your post.

So much of this is subjective. While the V6 does not have enough power for me, it does for many others. It might be fine for you.

The gas mileage varies considerably depending on which model you have and how you drive it. I have an S and get about 15 mpg in town.

    Re: First cayenne

Whether you get the V6 or V8 is purely subjective. Drive both, that cleared up the question for me.

I get about 15 to 17 mpg in a CS with mostly city & some freeway, and i am very heavy footed.

As others stated, no major problems, just some fixes. Mine was built in Aug 2003 and therefore all of those may be incorporated in the new 2005 MY.

    Re: First cayenne

Gonna go for the V6 and add a 3.2 supersport carrera for playtime.... thanx for the input.

    Easy...
The Cayenne is a great SUV, quality is good, I had only one minor issue with a microswitch regarding the rear hatch window lock.
The only thing I really don't like about the Cayenne is the throttle/shifting response, so maybe you want to get manual if you choose to go for the V6 or S.
If you're used to various 911 in the past and the Boxster, I think the V6 would be the wrong choice for you.
Get the "S", even if the fuel consumtption might be higher.
Oh yeah, that's another thing, fuel consumption but just imagine you live in Europe (as I do) and you have to pay three times more for your fuel like I do here.

Um. RC, I think if you check out where taffy has to buy his fuel, you will find he pays even more for his fuel than you do.

    Ouch, UK not US.
One reason why I always ask people to post the region or city AND the country. Makes it much easier for people like me to say the right things.

    Re: First cayenne

    Nearly 4 GBP per gallon......

    Re: First cayenne

Well have done it now guys , 2004 S in crystal silver ,tiptronic, air suspension and 20" Technosports ....there are a few other extra's but all in all a good find at a local dealer. paid 51k (GBP) with just under 8000mls on the clock. Pick her up this friday....can't wait

    Re: First cayenne

    just kiddin boyo

    Good luck with it Taff

    Re: First cayenne

I want to challenge the assumption that if you are used to a 911 you will find the V6 to be a slow car (or one that is not good to drive).

I own both a 996 C4S and a Cayenne V6 (which I admit my wife drives more than I, but I do drive both regularly). Yes, they are VERY different cars, in too many ways to list. But I don't drive the C4S in places I would drive the Cayenne, and vice versa, and likewise I don't drive them both in the same way. However, I REALLY like both of these cars in their own special way.

I don't know if it makes a difference, but we have a manual V6. I test drove both an tiptronic S and a manual V6 back-to-back before buying, and came down on the side of the V6. I felt that the S was generally about as quick as the V6 in auto mode, but a bit better in 'manual shift' mode, however I had to push them both hard to notice, and I don't drive the Cayenne in that way. As a result, I went for a manual V6 as the driving experience was too close for me to justify the difference in price.

And, since I live in the UK fuel is an issue (although most people think I don't care, having two cars that positively guzzle fuel!). On a recent run down to the south coast (260 miles each way) we averaged 27 miles per gallon with two adults, a baby and a LOT of luggage! This was a bit of a surprise I can tell you, but we still average about 19-20mpg around town, which is not bad for a car this size.

So, as you can tell, I like my V6! If you haven't driven one, please don't assume that you won't like it or find it to be too slow... you may be surprised.

    Re: First cayenne

at least get the S, you will have the peace of mind to know you have a porsche engine, not the VW engine in the Base cayenne.

    Re: First cayenne

And it's that sort of comment that proves that some people just don't get why Porsche built this car...

    Re: First cayenne

    lol
