Re: AMG GT-C surprise addition to my garage

    JR-550:

Time for an update, in the mean time I have finished my running of the engine (pfff long time). The car really feels a bit like a mid engine car. I know the weight is almost 50/50 etc but stil because of massif engine in front your mind wants to tell you something different. I love to drive the car in R (race mode) because of throttle response and sound. The loud bangs in exhaust at upshifting makes you fell like driving a race car. But in the R mode the big difference with 911 Turbo and specially the R8 shows. In the R8 (race mode) and AMG GT (R-mode) the traction control is switch partially off. Accelerating out of a corner the AMG GT gets a bit tricky here; the pure traction is much less compared to the R8. This less traction makes it fun too drifting is easier and lower speeds. In pure exhaust sound I would still rate the R8 better, a NA is still the best. As far as I have been able, form driving on public roads, the 911 Turbo is still the easiest car to drive at high cornering speeds. Later this year I will be able to drive both the R8 and the AMG GT on the SPA racing track I will be albe to give a betere comparison of the both cars. All in all the AMG GT is a great car very nice and solid finish! The only problem I have is my wife like it a lot so the garage is sometimes empty indecision.

I am curious - why do you think your wife likes this car, which most would see as a very “masculine” sports car compared to many others?

Well the daily driver of my wife is the 911 Turbo, she drives it summer and winter. She just likes the "looks" of the AMG and driving. It might look like a very masculine sports car but it drives very easy.

Re: AMG GT-C surprise addition to my garage

Isn't it normal for women to be attracted to masculine things, and men to feminine things? (I'm talking straight men and women; adjust as needed if gay.) I suppose it depends on whether one views the car as a reflection or extension of themselves, or whether they view it as an object to look at and possibly admire for its beauty.

Re: AMG GT-C surprise addition to my garage

haha indecision agree! no adjustment necesary

Interesting point but my wife doesn't like my R8 too much (she never had the desire to drive it), unless I drive with it. Weird, isn't it? On the other hand, one of my former school mates drives a Beetle convertible (new model), he lives near us and whenever she sees that guy in his car, she thinks it looks hideous (OK...I have to admit I feel the same...that guy is a "big" guy and he looks ridiculous in that Beetle).

Actually, my wife isn't a car person at all...and I am happy about it. Just imagine I had to fight with her who drives the car  (and which one) and who doesn't. One of her best female friends is a passionate driver, probably the reason she has yet failed to meet a man she can keep longer than a few months. Smiley Smiley When it comes to "manly" things, men are pretty sensitive. Smiley

Re: AMG GT-C surprise addition to my garage

This year if finally had to time to drive to Austria and do some Alpen passes!. Since the AMG is the latest edition decided to go with this car. Was a great drive, drove from Belgium to Lindau, then the German Alpenstrasse to Kitzbühel  from there to the Alps. In total drove 2065 km in 4 days! The AMG is a great long distance travel car, great drive on the high way with almost unlimited power. If you drive 180 and put the peddle down you have a feeling rocket goes of. Even in C (comfort mode) the kickdown comes in and with a loud bang in the exhaust the car accelerates. On the Alpens (Timmesljoch up to 2500m) the car preforms like a charm, easy turning and short turning cycle. The only "negative" point of the car is the width!. You cannot believe how many cars, motorbikers, bickers and even cows are on these very narrow roads. My friend was driving is Porsche Boxster definitely the better car for these roads. Fuel consumption was quite reasonable 12,1 l/100 avg speed 72km/h.

Lovely car for such a trip. Consumption is extremely reasonable indeed!

Very nice photos, thanks for sharing. Smiley

    12 l / 100 km? Wow. I can't get my E63S under 20 liters... Smiley

Will start driving my AMG in Comfort mode auto, Sport+ and manual just eats up too much fuel, especially when I drive in the city (doesn't make much sense anyway).

Re: AMG GT-C surprise addition to my garage

Fuel consumption well, some explanation is needed: We drove on a Thursday to Lindau over the A61, here is a speed limited of 130 km/h, then around Stuttgart traffic jam like hell Only from Ulm down to Lindau we had free roads. On secondary roads there was too much traffic and speed control to do decent driving. Same on the way back. Under normal conditions, small trips,  I am more between 15-20 liter consumption
