The articles are a bit confusing. In reality, you can actually still buy in-stock dealer cars, you can even order some cars (for a very late delivery though) but Porsche is still selling cars.

At my dealer you can not order a Panamera or a Cayenne optioned as you want before next February .
The only cars available are onfigurated ones , and only about 3 or 4 . My salesman sait it si pretty hard to work like this .

Porsche made an epic error IMHO. How in God sake, they forgot about new regulations? And they did not prepare fast enough to handle it right?
Basically, there won't be any new cars from 15/07/18 till 15/01/19.
Yes, it will be pretty interesting period for Porsche. Only new 992 is ready for new regulations. All other models will be adjusted or maybe in case of some 991.2 models not adjusted at all and quietly fased out.

Wow, interesting how intense the bashing follows on this news...not my cup of tea I am afraid...following the media I understand that all OEMs in Europe have problems getting the new rules in place. I assume that all people involved in these processes will not have a quiet and relaxing summer time....

As it was explained to me by insiders, all European OEMs will have to go through this exciting process... 
This is just the official time-slot that has been booked with Porsche... 
It won't stop Porsche from announcing new cars!

You can actually order the cars in Germany but you cannot get one until March 2019.
Not an easy time to be a Porsche sales person right now, same goes to other brands (Audi, Mercedes, BMW, etc.) as well.
Good times for customers though because dealers have to move the cars they have in stock and/or the cars which are still due to arrive from the factory. Meaning: Good chances for good deals if you can compromise on the model and options.

Discounts ? Nah, not with Porsche ... though, this could be the time to press more finished cars through the dealer channel ... However, given the color / equipment choices displayed by my favourite P. dealer, ie. black / black and (only) the necessary equipment to re-sell a car after the usual lease runs out, there should be a lot of cars appealing to those wanting a toy still this year...

Guys, Trump is a deal maker (and I don't mean it ironically). He will get his way, same as Europeans (after some compromises). European politicians just don't understand (or want to understand) his rude behavior, they are still into that cheek kiss diplomacy thing. They will learn to adapt.

Wrote an email to "my" dealer this morning ... I do not expect the world now, nor anything close and rather see a deal coming up for a new cayman (which I would instantly and happily decline) ...Again, my feeling is that there are not that many odd cars from Porsche in stock like in the 90s, when you needed to be brave to get a car in burgundy red exterior with red interior...

If I was in the market for a new Porsche right now I’d want to order it as I wanted it, not compromise on a stock car. I’d either buy used or buy elsewhere.
As it happens I’m perfectly happy with our “proper” engined Boxster GTS, now coming up three and a half years old for our fun car and Golf GTI a great everyday car.

We won't see the base Cayenne at US dealers until this October. Cayenne S & Turbo arrives at US Dealers in February 2019. It's very difficult to get a new 991 here. I suspect we won't see the 992 at US dealers until June 2019. At that point, customers may be ordering 2020 model year 992s. It is certainly going to be a very interesting transition for Porsche over the next 18 months as they adopt the new emission standards and launch the Mission E. We can still place orders for cars, but have to be patient due to the extended delivery times.

German dealers have plenty of cars in stock over here. Including the new Cayenne and even the Turbo. My dealer has a Cayenne Turbo (new model) and Panamera Turbo S (new model) in stock. For immediate delivery.

Porsche is in a serious mess right now.
Alexander was to head Porsche GB to fix that mess. 6 months later he is quickly dispatched to head Porsche Deutschland. Their home market.
Alexander is their best executive, that's tells you something.

Got offered a 991.2 Turbo S Coupe or Convertible at a special lease rate to switch with my current 991.2 Carrera GTS Cab, a special lease rate which in the end didn't prove itself special at all. Weird.
The mess has been caused by VW in the first place, if they would have taken the lead in cleaning the "other" mess, nobody would be in "this" mess after all. When you put yourself into a mess, you need to be proactive about cleaning it up. Waiting for it to quiet down puts you in an even bigger mess.
The pressure on the government and/or authorities in Germany is now extremely high, so I'm not surprised.
Also, I'm not sure this EV strategy will pay off over the next couple of years, I think they rushed into something without any real need. Nobody will buy these EVs, simply because the tech changes/evolves way too fast right now. I highly doubt that leasing/renting out these cars will be profitable in the short term.
Today police searched the private residence of Audi CEO Stadler, Mercedes is now in a mess as well... So dumb.

I worry about the long term repercussions of all this. Specifically, lower quality due to cost cutting pressures. Some issues I noticed recently on my and my sibling's car:
- 2017 991.2 S: ill-fitting passenger door; door window rubs against rear quarter fixed window when door is opened and closed, with a nasty noise
- 2016 Cayman GTS: Ill fitting rear spoiler (uneven gaps between spoiler and body)
- Ditto: Seat no longer moving back to comfort entry/exit position (steering wheel still moves out of the way)
- Ditto: Intermittent headlight alignment fault
- Both cars: steering wheel not centered

Quality control has been an issue for a while - loaner 718 recently had so many rattles I thought it had done over 100K miles. Play in steering, PDK clunk when engaging reverse, Front boot trim wayward, passenger seat wouldn't move, Aircon was only working one side, even the key felt brittle. That said, my first 991 was quite poor - current one seems fine though.
