New family toy came in yesterday!

    Re: Focus ST 2008

Congrats. The facelifted Focus looks great and I've always been a fan of the ST version. Looks great in white.

    Re: Focus ST 2008

I like the new front. Congrats. So tell me, what is the difference between this and the pre-updated model? Or is it just cosmetic?

    Re: Focus ST 2008

Nice motor... The old one was well recieved by the press, interested to hear what you think of it.

Looking forward to seeing the new RS... Reckon it will look very good. Take your ST style, beef up the fenders, stick slightly more aggresive bumpers on and chuck in a whole load more power! Should be cool

    Re: Focus ST 2008

    Congrats !

    Re: Focus ST 2008

It's not a total new car, just a facelift. The engine is unchanged (2.5L Turbo/225 PS). They made some changes to the interior, better Quality and Touchscreen-Navigation. There is a new steering, which you can switch from comfort to normal and sport and some suspension changes.

I will give you info about the performance after the weekend. First impression: more power than my Cooper S Works but softer suspension.

My wife is still under shock, becaus she had to sell her beloved BMW 318 Touring for this "ugly" car - my 6-year son loves it.

    Re: Focus ST 2008

If you saw the US spec Focus, you'd laugh your ass off.

I never understand why Ford saves its best designed/engineered/fun products for Europe and gives us more craptastical Mustangs and F-150's ...

    I'll just never understand.

    Re: Focus ST 2008

It's because the "market consensus" in car prices is much lower in the US. Ford could not make money selling a Euro-spec Focus at the price US consumers think a Focus is worth.

Of course, the $1,000 penalty in "legacy costs" that US manufacturers have but foreign manufacturers don't (thanks to state-run healthcare and pensions) does not help.

I encountered a RS testmule a couple of weeks ago on the A1 (not far away from Ford's Cologne factory). The car was right on par with my 987 S (3.2) in terms of acceleration and top speed.

@ blueflame: have fun with the new toy

I agree. Those things would sell like crazy here in Canada. On another note, the Opel Astra is being sold in NA as of this year, under GM's Saturn brand. I'll bet it does really well.

    Re: Focus ST 2008

Congrats, being a Focus owner myself I can tell you this Focus you will LOVE!

The price and everything from fuel consuption to interior as well as exterior design are great. Plus your ST motor won't lack in the power department either!

Great car, wish Ford introduced the Euro Spec Focus here in North America. We get shafted with that half assed thing they call a facelift but really is 10 years old...

I'd love to see more pictures

Yes. I test drove the Golf GTI. We have here in Germany a special version, it's called "Editon 30" with 230 HP. It's a great car, but next year there will be the Golf VI around and a new GTI.

Second reason for buying the ST for my wife was, I can test it now very intensive. And if I like it, I will sell my Cooper S next year and go for the "Focus RS" which will have around 300 HP and a dual clutch gear box and hopefully 4WD. Reminds me of my good old Integrale EVO...

ST-Driving report with pictures on monday.

congrats! front end looks very nice

    Re: Focus ST 2008

    cool car congrats

    Re: Focus ST 2008

    Here the first driving report:

Really powerfull engine, lots of torque and a nice sound from inside the car.

Very good traction for a frontwheeldrive car, even in the wet like today.(much better than the cooper S)

For my taste the suspension and the steering is too soft, but for long distance driving with the family it should be o.k.

Very neutral handling only in very fast corners you can feel that there is a very heavy engine in the front.

Interieur quality is o.k., but not at the level of VW/Audi.

I would say on country roads the mini is a little bit more fun, because you can throw it more aggresive in the corners, but on the autobahn I prefer the ST. BTW no chance to follow the ST with the cooper S on the Autobahn.
