    Unique exterior/interior color combinations?

    Hello guys!

Im considering some unique exterior/interior color combos for my new C2S. None of the standard white/black/silver with terracotta/bage interior (even though its quite nice), I just want something thats a bit... different.

One option which really got my attention, would be a GT3RS inspired color scheme.. basically the same orange used on the RS, with the "Carrera S" model designator also painted in black with the sidestrip across the side of the car. That, matched with a black leather interior and orange stitchings/orange interior components, might be a killer.

What do you guys think? Anything interesting on your mind? Obviously I dont want something thats completely over the top (no pink 911's plz ), but if you have any ideas or images plz feel free to share.

    Thanks

    Re: Unique exterior/interior color combinations?

Hello Flagg, nice to see a daring soul willing to stray away from good old arctic/black

One thing with custom combos is that delay production by quite a lot. At this time of the year, you're looking at a wait of over a year.
(paint-to-sample adds 6 months to build time, and those orders are built only on some specific months)

If that is not a problem, your first step should be the paint-to-sample thread:
    http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=258255&an=0&page=1#258255

For more color choices, atomic80 and UBootCommander have put together a few threads that show all former Porsche colors on another website:

    Green:

    Re: Unique exterior/interior color combinations?

    Next step: leather to sample.

IMHO the most difficult part. With leather to sample, it's very easy to get an interior that looks terrible because you have forgotten an Exclusive option (plastic trim pieces are black, you must get them covered in leather).

There are two ways to order a leather to sample interior:
    A. start with a standard interior and add select pieces in the color of your choice.
    B. start with a "leather to sample" interior (option code 99)

    Option A:
A good choice is to put leather in a custom color only on the seats and on the door insert (area below the door airbag trim strip); the rest being in any standard color.
Then add deviated stitching everywhere. See my next post for that.

    Option B:
The steering wheel is only available in black. Because of that, I strongly suggest you to get the top of the dashboard in black too.
However, don't get the top of the door panels in black, because there is no way to get a matching rear side panel.

The following pieces are black and must be covered with leather in your color of choice:
    - gear lever and handbrake (manual: DAX or DAW, Tiptronic: DAV)
    - center console (XMZ or in carbon fiber: XMJ)
    - door finishers (XTV or in carbon fiber: XTL)
    - door and rear speakers (CVT)
    - ignition rosette and mirror triangles (DAA or in carbon fiber: aftermarket from Bumperplugs.com)
    - belt outlets on B pillar (CDU or in carbon fiber: CJJ)
    - steering column (XNS)
    - instrument surround (XNG or in carbon fiber from Bumperplugs)
    - roof liner on coupé (XMA)
    - sun visors (XMP)
    - dome lamp cover (coupé: XZD, cab: CZD).

    Re: Unique exterior/interior color combinations?

@Groom: your attention to detail and precision is very impressive. I don't think there is a dealer alive who understands this stuff as well as you do.

    Re: Unique exterior/interior color combinations?

    Next step: deviated stitching.

Deviated stitching is infamously tricky at Porsche.

There are 9 options to order:
    - 24891: stitching on front and rear seats
    - 24901: stitching on dashboard (top half)
    - 24902: stitching on door panel
    - 24903: stitching on door handle
    - 24904: stitching on PCM side panels
    - 24905: stitching on rear side panels
    - 09991: stitching on all Exclusive options.

The one thing most people forget is that the gear lever, handbrake and steering wheel are not covered by any option! But if you order an Exclusive gear lever/handbrake and an Exclusive steering wheel, they are covered under 09991.

    Exclusive steering wheels:
    - XPA: thicker sports wheel
    - XPA: aluminum-look multifunction wheel
    - CPA: thicker rim for "triangular" wheels (e.g. multifunction wheel)
    - CLA: thicker rim in Alcantara for "triangular" or sports steering wheel

    Exclusive shifters and handbrakes:
    - DAV: for Tiptronic (DAD style)
    - DAW: for manual (DAD style)
    - DAX: for manual (ECA style)
    - DAT: for manual, in Alcantara (DAD style)
    - DAU: for Tiptronic, in Alcantara (DAD style)

DAD style: aluminum shifter, leather (or Alcantara) handbrake with aluminum insert. On Tiptronic cars, only the handbrake is upgraded.
ECA style: leather shifter with aluminum insert, aluminum handbrake.
DAV, DAW and DAX include CDZ (CFA with Tip). The Alcantara options do not, so don't forget to add it.
CDZ ("gear lever trim") is the small trim piece that's behind the shifter boot (manual only, obviously). CFA is Tiptronic gate in leather. Both come with decorative stitching, which is missing on the standard plastic piece.

    Attention Carbon Fiber lovers!
    - The Carbon package (803: shifter/handbrake + dashboard trim strip) is incompatible with the Exclusive shifters! If you want carbon fiber + deviated stitching, do NOT order the 803 carbon package. Order the Exclusive shifter/handbrake from the factory, and the carbon dashboard trim strip from your dealer. The dealer will install it when the car arrives.
    - The Carbon fiber multifunction steering wheel is not an Exclusive option. If you want deviated stitching and carbon fiber inserts on your steering wheel, get the TechArt carbon fiber steering wheel.

    Re: Unique exterior/interior color combinations?

It is also possible to combine standard interior colors. While you have less color choices than leather-to-sample, at least you won't have too long to wait.

I recommend doing that if you're looking at red or brown natural leather. But you may also want to try a bicolor blue and beige combo.

Thing to consider if you go that route: it's possible to order almost any combination, but the rear side panel is only available in one color for the entire panel, unlike the door panel. That limits what you can do with bicolor interiors.

    IMHO you best bets are:
    - deviated dashboard top (24921 (25731 with Sport Chrono) + CNA + CNB (specify color on additional Exclusive order form)) plus deviated carpets (24951) plus deviated A/B/C pillars (25461 + 25221 on coupé, 25431 on cabriolet)
    - deviated seats only (25241), plus deviated stitching
    - deviated seat inserts (25491) plus door inserts (missing option code there) plus deviated stitching.

While I'm at it, there is an option to get Alcantara inserts on the front seats 25231), but nothing for the rear seats (although TechArt might have something for you).

    Re: Unique exterior/interior color combinations?

    Hey Flagg,
Nice Idea, I really like the orange of the RS. However, combining it with the black scripts on the side, it could become an "RS wannabe"... I think I would refrain from the scripts, but order the orange, and black wheels/black mirrors. Black interior with orange deviated stitching. Seatbelts, which color? Bracke calipers, which color? Especially the calipers can become quite a mess when they are yellow whilst the rest of the car is orange/black.
Good luck on deciding, ad please post some pics when it is finished!

    Re: Unique exterior/interior color combinations?

If you are not deterred by build time with paint and leather to sample, here's what I suggest:

I'm not too fond of making a non GT3RS look like a GT3RS. It's like putting a Type R sticker on a base Civic...

    If you want daring:
    signal yellow paint
black interior with full carbon fiber, GT2 bucket seats, signal yellow seat inserts, signal yellow stitching, signal yellow piping on floor mats (CFX).
if ordering PCCB, trying getting the brake calipers in something else than Speed Yellow (e.g. red or black).

If you want subtle and elegant:
    baltic blue paint
blue interior with linen seats, linen stitching on blue leather, blue stitching on seats.

If you can't get paint and leather to sample on a reasonable time basis:
    carrara white paint
carrera red interior with black dashboard top, black A/B/C pillars, black carpets, black floor mats with carrera red piping and lettering, full carbon fiber including steering wheel, red stitching on dashboard (carrera red if available).

    Re: Unique exterior/interior color combinations?

PS, if you need any high-res pictures of the Carrera S script (see below), let me know and I'll mail them to you.

    Re: Unique exterior/interior color combinations?

Wow thanks a lot for the great input guys! I might pm you later for the high res ones joost mate.

The Groom that is some spectacular information, thanks a tonne for it!

Im hoping to jump the que now and if my car can possibly make it here within 1 year then thats acceptable for me.

Any more input / suggestions are greatly appreciated.. I wanna make sure I get it right!

    Re: Unique exterior/interior color combinations?

    Flagg,

not much to add after Groom's superb effort.

I suppose resale value (or better: option related value) might not be that much of an issue in your region. However I am very fond of using automotive foil to cover the exterior (and almost every visible exterior-coloured piece), possible even in very controversial or fashionable colours. This would significantly shorten the delivery timespan.

    Re: Unique exterior/interior color combinations?

You're welcome, Flagg. You obviously want a truly special car. I'm just trying to avoid any disappointment (ask Moogle... ).

    Errata:
option code for aluminum-look multifunction steering wheel is XPV and not XPA. It sucks anyway.

    An alternative to:
deviated dashboard top (24921 (25731 with Sport Chrono) + CNA + CNB (specify color on additional Exclusive order form)) plus deviated carpets (24951) plus deviated A/B/C pillars (25461 + 25221 on coupé, 25431 on cabriolet)

    is doing the reverse:
start with the other color and add deviated seats (25241) plus deviated door panels (25631) plus deviated rear side panels (option code: ?). Plus deviated lower dash (24922) plus deviated console (25432).

The main difference is the color of the steering wheel, which is the base color (there is no option code to deviate it).
If you order the extended carbon package (A/C vents and defroster trim), the leather will also come in the base color.
Also, don't forget that plastic pieces will remain in the base color unless you cover them with leather and specify the color you want on the additional Exclusive order form.

Anyway, as you can see, there's a lot of room to play, but also a lot of things that might go wrong. Double-check everything with the Exclusive department (not your dealer, they're generally clueless) before committing to anything.

And please do post your spec, we'll be happy to help you out. And pictures, when the car finally arrives.

    Not a good enough reason.

You're not _that_ different, we're all the same. We're just a bunch of guys with more disposable income than the rest of the world.

We're blowing money on a silly car and want to embellish this shameful excess with careful choice of it's "distinguishing" cosmetic superficialities.

    HAHAHA! Just kidding.

I could not make it without an army of trained monkeys to help me keep track of all those option codes.

    Re: Unique exterior/interior color combinations?

Good luck with your goal of a unique color combination (and something other than silver or black)! It's all worth it!

Oh yes..., my above failed attempt at humor aside:

    Nice work Groom, as always.

    Thak you Groom!

This thread, or elements of it, should be locked down as a reference piece for those considering custom ordering.

Here's a question: could one have a bi-color interior consisting of natural gray (to replace black in the standardized version) and natural brown?

    MTIA

    Re: Thak you Groom!

    1. The one thing that's definitely impossible is the bicolor rear side panel.

If you want to do a bicolor interior, you should keep the entire door panel and rear side panel brown. The A/B/C pillars would be dark grey.

    2. I know that they will do the deviated items in black, but I'm not 100% positive they will do it in natural grey.

    3. Maybe a group buy (or buying 10 to 20 cars and reselling them) might get them to change their policies. I'm up for it... provided someone provides the funding.

    Re: Thak you Groom!

Groom: My big question has always been, where can I find pics of leather to sample? I've seen linen and a couple others. But, while it's relatively easy to find pics of cars with paint to sample, there is little info available on the web for leather to sample. It would bre great if someone could create a thread for leather to sample, like the exterior color threads that Atomic 80 and I created on Teamspeed. Hint, hint . . .

    Re: Thak you Groom!

Leather to sample is less common than paint to sample. Also, paint to sample is easy to find, as easy as visiting the Porsche pre-owned car locator and selecting "paint to sample" in the color options.

There is no such thing to find leather-to-sample vehicles on the Porsche website (unless you feel like scrolling through hundreds of pages on the pre-owned car locator).
But googling the following may help: "leather interior to sample" site:porschedealer.com

But that does not return a lot of results, and to add insult to injury, they don't always show pictures.

I keep tabs on the Euroclassics.com website. They often have cars with non-standard combinations.

    Leather to sample

Is this "painted on" color to sample, or is the leather dyed the color to sample as per the natural leathers?

    Re: Leather to sample

AFAIK all leathers to sample rely on the "painted on" technique. But who knows, maybe for the right price...

Pity, as it's obviously not as durable as it could be. I saw an amazing Bentley Continental GT in a pewter color with an interior in what can only be described as "McVities Rich Tea" biscuit leather in combination with diamond stitched alcantara.

I think Porsche could be a little more adventurous in their offerings to get closer to something like this, or to be better at communicating what you can do if you want to be really distinctive.
