One hell of a crash!

I read this about this at Crash.net but there were no videos of it until recently. A Ginetta in the GT4 at the British GT opening round crashed in a major way.

Wow! That tore apart the car!

I was racing on the weekend....when the car infront of me broke in the usual spot...and just speared 90 Deg off the left into the wall? (He thinks one of his front brakes failed?) It got my attention because he bounced back infront of me! I missed him by a "bee's little fella"!

Ouch. Reminds me of this crash. By far one of the worst I've ever seen that didn't result in a fatality.

It sucks because things like that all you can do is hold on and 'enjoy the ride.'

jcparki... I would have pissed my pants. Probably rolled into the pits took a breather and drink a beer.

I remember that video. That crash is nuts. I couldn't imagine seeing that in real life. Too surreal for me.

Holy crap! I can't believe the Ferrari driver lived through that. I hope he wasn't permanently injured.

He had some lasting injuries if I remember. Loss of some mobility and feeling in a hand. Problems walking for a while. As you can imagine, he immediately retired from racing after this.

The only other accident like this that didn't resort in a fatality that stands out in my mind was when the Mercedes CLK GTR lifted off the ground down a back straight at Le Mans due to bad aero design and did THREE full rotations in the air before landing off the track!

What all of us can be thankful for is the fact that the safety requirements in cars today is far improved at all levels of competition. Maybe we all owe a debt of gratitude to Jackie Stewart.
