Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 Turbo S Exclusive Series (2017)

Why stop at a 911 then? Why not just get the Panamera so you can carry even more of that seldom carried cargo? I mean, the Panamera is more versatile than a 911 Turbo and the average speed difference between it and a 911 Turbo S is only like 4%. on the NBC You wouldn't even be able to tell which is quicker at any given time. So 70 MPH in a 911 Turbo vs 67.2 mph in a Panamera.

911 is dead. All hail the Panamera, the ultimate sports car due to its cargo capacity.

Maybe start posting again when you are old enough to drive a 911 and can share your genuine experience?

If we are mistaken, perhaps you would like to start a new thread with your latest drives in your favourite supercars?

There have been suggestions that posting on a Porsche forum without any genuine interest in the subject is clearly evidence of a juvenile troll. If you don't like Porsche, can you honestly explain what are you doing here?

All 911s are driven whereas the rest are generally static. Has anyone seen a 5 year old Ferrari with 100.000 km on the clock? I doubt it.

That's because people who own Ferraris are much wealthier and therefor have more cars and commute much less.

A lame explanation in my opinion. The reason is that these cars are not up to repeatedly hard use. The "official" reason often given by owners is the fear of heavy depreciation. But since these owners are extremely wealthy, losing 100K or 200K on the value of an automobile is neither here nor there for them.

Porsche is already offering the alternative to the mid engine cars like Ferrari and McLaren with the 911.

Some people want a sports car, but they can't afford to give up trunk space or people space, and the 911, in the Turbo S variant, offers the performance of those sports car with the practicality that they needed.

If one is out and needed to go pick up a couple kids from school, they can't do it in their 488. They can however do it in the 911.

Someone went shopping on a weekend, say bought a big Birkin bag, the box alone won't fit in a 488 or a 720S, it will however, fit inside a Turbo S.

The R8 has plenty of luggage room in my opinion.

Front hood and behind the seats.

Compared to a 488 I'd say luggage space of a R8 is tiny, no? Smiley

Ask Futch how many miles he puts on an average Ferrari of his. Ask Crayphile how many miles he has on his exotics before he trades them in.

I mean, if you have 4 cars, how many miles do you really expect to put on any single one before you get rid of it.

I got my first car was I was about 17. I stopped using it when I got my R8 when I was 22. I made a modest commute multiple times per day to college and used it how any person would use a car. I put maybe 7K miles on the car per year. When I had the R8, I averaged about 8K miles per year (which included some 500-1000 mile road trips).

How would someone with multiple cars, and possibly multiple sports cars, put many miles on a Ferrari? People just don't drive that much and when you divided it by multiple cars, you end up with cars that only get a couple thousand miles per year.

Sorry, noone1, you may have lost even more credibility with that post...

Why are you posting stock images of a Ferrari 458 and the luggage set? Smiley

Are you then claiming that your Toyota Rav4 luggage set fits in a Ferrari 488? Smiley

Have you ever driven a Ferrari 458 Italia? How about a grand tour in a Ferrari 488? Smiley

We are fortunate to have many Rennteam members that own and drive a Ferrari or two, thanks! Smiley

Hence, we don't really need to hear about Ferrari ownership experience from those that do not.

Have you ever driven a Porsche 911 with a passenger across a continent? Smiley

Similarly, we are blessed with many Rennteam members that have!  image.gif

Owning and driving a Porsche or Ferrari is all about the experience.

So why not share your genuine experience of driving cars? It is ok if you are still a student. There is no need to fabricate a story. It does not help your credibility. Did you ever watch Good Will Hunting? Smiley

If you want to be taken seriously on Rennteam, why not write your own review of any car with photos and video footage.

If it was PistonHeads, they would also require that you include a tin of custard in the photo to prove it was genuine... Smiley

What you say is very plausible.

OTOH I've checked the official Porsche Germany website for used 991 Turbos and the vast majority have much higher yearly average mileages compared to the other high end cars. I presume that used cars sold outside the official Porsche network would have even higher mileages. I used to live for a period of time near the Ferrari importer in the UK and I've never seen a used Ferrari with more than 10.000 miles.

This could mean a number of positive things like:

    • The Turbo is a very usable all year round all purpose car,
    • Owners consider them strong and reliable and hence they are not afraid to use them
    • The car is so sufficient and pleasing that ownership of multiple cars is rendered pointless.

Sounds like Boxster Coupe GTS has blow a gasket. Look at all those emoticons. Look at all those new lines.

I've actually driven 11 hours straight to Montreal with a passenger in my R8. It was fine and we didn't have any space issues. Plenty of space up front, behind the seats, and on the shelf.

If you're having trouble packing a an exotic, I suggest you get one of these to start. It really helps you get the hang of the idea before you put the plan into motion.

I can think of many cars preferable to a 911 Turbo.

    570S, Huracan 580-2, Audi R8...

None has the space and room of a 911.

In the real world nothing beats a 911. It is different to size up performance in airfields and dedicated race tracks and different to drive fast on real roads with a variety of tarmac ,imperfections, bumps, blind crests, tricky weather etc.

Why are Porsche so good on the NBR? Because the track resembles a real road course.

Besides, visibility is excellent in a 911 compared to the raked windscreens of the "supercars" and its space helps the driving environment compared to the claustrophobic cabins of others.

All 911s are driven whereas the rest are generally static. Has anyone seen a 5 year old Ferrari with 100.000 km on the clock? I doubt it.

The rival brands are very nice to own as trophies, they have dramatic shapes but they are only good for limited driving under ideal conditions. The 911 is in a class of its own. 1.000.000 buyers over the last 55 years cannot be wrong.

the 911 WAS in a class of its own. Now with the price increases and the competition getting better, they are getting cornered. Look how many people here used to own 911 and don't anymore...

Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 Turbo S Exclusive Series (2017)

I think we're overlooking the biggest issue here: Can your wife buy a bag, keep that bag in a giant cardboard box, keep that giant cardboard box on the original giant wood shipping pallet, and then fit that giant wood shipping pallet in the glove box of a Ferrari?

    A 911 can.

You have to keep in mind how quickly the cars reach certain price points and that 911s have historically been waaaay less than Ferraris. The new $200K+ 911 Turbo is a recent thing.

When high-end cars depreciate, then simply find themselves in the hands of less wealthy people who will want/need to use them more. This happens with 911 Turbos quicker, at least historically, since $100K depreciation on a $300K Ferrari is still $200K.

Turbos reach the hands of mere mortals much quicker. It could take 10 years before a Ferrari gets "cheap". A 2008 F430 is still probably like $120K in the US. A 2008 Turbo is probably $60K.

The 911 has partly lost its original mission and this makes some Porsche fans unhappy. OTOH new buyers are always coming in. YOu lose some you gain some.

Porsche try to make the 911 all things to all people which IMO is wrong. The 911 range should be streamlined because a single model cannot be everything from a DD sportscar to a hypercar with additional special versions every couple of years. The multiplicity of versions and sub-versions is near absurd.

4 or 5 different versions of the 911 would have been more than enough.

Even when a Ferrari reaches an affordable price as used it will never be affordable to own and to repair/maintain. Some people fall in this trap and in the end they are left with a relic which doesn't do justice to the marque.

And just as quickly, the Turbo S Exclusive's stay in Europe is over.

    IMG_9555.JPG

Sitting at Simovic this morning waiting to be shipped back home.

    IMG_9554.JPG

Drove 744km in May and 1634km this past week. !.22g braking, 1.22g acceleration, 1.17g right turns and 1.21g left turns, also topped 300km/hr but didn't have a free hand to take a picture.

I have to say, driving fast on the German Autobahn is such a pleasure. The Turbo S literally parted the Red Sea. Every driver can see it from a mile away on the passing lane and moved out of the way, quickly. I literally only had to tap the brake once on the unlimited stretches. One driver was gonna to attempt a pass but saw me coming in the mirror and quickly brake and duck right back into the middle lane to let me pass first.

These sofa seas are the greatest thing, holds me tight during the mountain switch backs but also provide the comfort for long distance cruising. The trip started at Nice, ended up in Megeve then Stuttgart.

During a brief stop in Italy, it drew more admirers than the 5 918s sitting around.
