Yep, NBR. And I would bet the visco coupling is faster on other tracks as well.

Re: Another 997TT vs GT-R article

why is it so hard for people to accept the 7:38 GTR time, when its been confirmed as a stock car ?

I would have said that Evo were unbiased (although a porsche has won ECOTY for the last 5 years or so!) they seem to really rate the GTR

    cheers

It's hard to accept because it's physically impossible. I believe it can break 7:50, but I just don't buy 7:38. I want to see a dyno-tested, stock car do it, not a test mule (with god knows how many bhp). Beating a 997TT isn't really hard with its current setup and nobody is really doubting the fact that the GT-R can be even significantly faster, but the NBR is also a high-speed track and the GT-R, in its stock form, is relatively slow above 200 km/h. That being said, I would love for the Nissan programmers to design a program for the 997TT PTM.

don't porsche publish their own lap times (rather than an independent ?)

I also doubt that the stock GTR is pushing out 470bhp, people are saying that its 470 at the wheel

    cheers

    Michael,

Porsche do publish their own times, but we always refer to Sport Auto Supertest times here. They're done by an independent magazine and are the only times you can trust. I don't trust Porsche, Nissan or anyone else for that matter.

Re: Another 997TT vs GT-R article

I have a hard time with the GT-R being 9 secs faster than a Lambo SL or F430 (not scud).

I do believe the GT-R is faster than the 997TT though.

    Just a small correction...

    Sport Auto Ring time:

    Ferrari F430F1 7.55min
    997 Turbo 7.52min
    Gallardo SL 7.46min

In best case GT-R will be at Gallardo SL level but, we will see that result in one year time...

In one year, the GT-R will be old news. Also, aren't they coming out a with a special track edition more powerful and faster?

Re: Another 997TT vs GT-R article

    The new widowmaker?

Re: Another 997TT vs GT-R article

    Nick,

Sport Auto only tests cars that are on the market in Germany. GT-R sales in good old Europe starts in late March 2009. Regarding beefed-up GT-R... Probably... 50cent is on waitng list-Pearl White with Pimp White leather, Snoop on the passanger seat is for free...

Re: Another 997TT vs GT-R article

That one is in Malaysia. So we have seen two write offs so far, the other being in HK. I think we will see more crashes on the GTR than any other previous supercar. Why? Because the price of this car is much more accessible to more people and most of us would not hesitate driving this car to it's limit as oppose to a much more expensive car.

I would think a very recent 430 with the latest generation tires could do 7.50...

Re: Another 997TT vs GT-R article

F430 on test was equiped with Corsa tires and both Nordschleife and Hockenheim times are more the accurate.

F430 was also tested on Oschersleben track by other German car magazine were it achived virtually the same time as Audi R8(both equiped with Corsas).

Re: Another 997TT vs GT-R article

We were filming the GT-R today and what a very impressive car it is. The gearchanges seem freakily capable, not boring, just very, very good. It made the LP640 which we were also driving seem very basic, and even the AMG CLK Black was not as smooth as the GT-R, and far less involving.

Biggest advantage of the GT-R, and I do realise this is not obviously beneficial on road, was shown by one of our cornering shots. The AMG CLK Black could be drifted through this corner (the bottom one at Bruntingthorpe for those of you in the UK) and hold a wonderful sideways angle, drifting for 60-80 metres across the radius of the corner. The GT-R through the same corner held near enough identical cornering attitude but was carrying at least 50% more speed whilst it was doing so.

Sideways, but still carrying more speed than either LP640 or AMG CLK Black could do when they took the neatest and therefore quickest line. That's very impressive, and ultimately it translates into a chassis (on the road) that is extremely forgiving (but not easy) for something with nigh on 500bhp.

I've no doubt now that the GT-R is the real deal, and it is sufficiently 'unique' in the way it drives and what it can do, to make comparisons with other cars almost pointless.

What I'm saying is that whether the GT-R is or is not quicker than the 997TT, it is sufficiently appealing to choose one without needing to justify it as being comparatively better or worse.
