The Maserati Granturismo S is Pounds95k with a few options, the F149 will have a Ferrari badge, more bhp and a folding roof so expect north of Pounds120k.

The Porsche way. Basically this is a Maserati which they will sell as a Ferrari at a 40% premium. Whatever happened to honesty and ethics in the car world? Porsche started it and made oodles of money and now Ferrari wants to do the same.

Time to buy a Lamborghini then.
LP560 is very tempting, also the beefed-up R8 will be a nice car (but it's still an Audi )...

Maybe we should wait for the first test reports before judging about the car All recent Ferraris have been great cars

Which porsche model are you referring to specifically that is a "rebranded duplicate of a lesser manufactuer's similar model"?

I'm not used to defending Nick, but I think the Touareg certainly fits the bill .

Oh yeah. I forgot about that.

I'm so out of it. I don't even look at rennlist anymore and its this and aston martin owners forum... (which only gets 10~ posts a DAY, ugh)

Re: Paris 2008, F149 IS OFFICIAL!

At US prices, it will be interesting to see how many LP560 vs California GT they will sell, considering the LP560 will be a much better car.

My concern is they may force some of us who are long time Ferrari owners to buy the car in order to get the 430 replacement. It would mean I have to drive around in a dog until I get the replacement which may be two years for the spider.

In other words, in Porsche speak, they are forcing me to buy a Cayman until the new 911 comes out.

Better or better it depends on what you're after. The LP560 is a strict sports car while the F149 will be a sporty four seater hard top convertible. It's like comparing a Cayman S to a 335i convertible. Not quite the same thing. But there's no question that the F149 will sell like biscuits.

You concern is very real, but only of the F149 doesn't pre-sell very well, IMHO at least 6-12 months away after introduction at the minimum.
I don't think the price will be the issue (around 200k), but the performance and road feel will make or break the car.

Re: Paris 2008, F149 IS OFFICIAL!

Nick, I'll take that lowly F149 and drive it for you. No extra charge

Nick, I really don't think you have anything to worry about. With demand for F-cars being this high in North America, Ferrari will have no problem selling the GT to the brand-hungry masses. It will look good and sound good and that's all that matters for urban boulevard survival .

Re: Paris 2008, F149 IS OFFICIAL!

Well, last few days have been terrible for the US economy, people have not realized it yet, you'll see. Financial system is on the verge of failing. It won't, but it is close...

You would do that for me? I am not so sure once the performance numbers are out on it.

Re: Paris 2008, F149 IS OFFICIAL!

    Isn't this the car here or at least the testbed?;

One thing that just cross my mind is that car will probably replace the 612 scagaletti.

Re: Paris 2008, F149 IS OFFICIAL!

    Some more pricing news:

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo surprised both the audience and the Ferrari PR department at the Geneva press conference by announcing Ferrari will reveal their new front-engined V8 GT car (known internally as the F149) at this year's Paris motor show in October.

Those expecting an entry level Ferrari will be disappointed to hear the new F149 GT car will be priced above the basic F430 (priced at Pounds138,500 here in the UK) when it goes on sale in 2009. Pervious reports that this car was to be a new Dino type Ferrari, priced sub Pounds100,000, have proved to be very wide of the mark.

Ferrari are still being cagey with the details but we do know the car will be a brand new design and will feature versatile architecture, which is taken to mean a choice of either 2+2 or 2 seat plus a luggage bench inside the cabin. Expect to see a conventional steel roof as standard, with either a glass or folding roof as an option.

Engine is expected to be a revised version of the F430's 4.3litre V8 with slightly more power thanks to new direct injection technology and new throttle bodies which should deliver lower CO2 emissions as well. This will be linked to the new gearbox that could be the DCT gearbox we know Ferrari have been working on.

It's exciting times for Ferrari, with this new model Ferrari are hoping to gain a new set of customers who have always been put off by the mid-engined layout of it's V8 models up to now.

So it seems the F149 will be around Euro 180 000?

Re: Paris 2008, F149 IS OFFICIAL!

So it confirms the speculation that the F430 is replaced by the F149, and the Scuderia by the F142.

Replacing the F430 by a front-engined model is a big disappointment. Hoping for a new Scuderia-type midengined model with an all new design sounds very promising though.

So if this theory is true, does that mean the F430 line (excluding the Scuderia) will be discontinued once the F149 makes its debut?

    Total disappointment.

But it all is starting to make sense... there is no "Dino", the F149 is the F430 replacement, and looses it's mid engine on the way (like going from Testarossa to 550 Maranello).

Have to change my "F430 successor" preorder to "next V8 mid engine Ferrari please"-preorder!!!

Well, as you want to put it.

I always expected that the successor of the F430 will move upwards and become an even more sportier model. A new "entry level" frontengined car and a raw high performance midengined model above the new F149 for the hardcore Ferraristi. Of course you could say that this new model will be in one line with the Scuderia, but since the new car will have not much in common with the old Modena-based Scuderia, I would see the whole situation more as a totally new model lineup of Ferrari, with frontengined cars to start with, big frontengined highend GT-cars for the senior Ferrarista and in between a midengined model for those custumers, who definetely don't want their engines in front of them.

Don't think so. Since the "F430 successor preorder" means the midengined successor or am I wrong here?

    Very confusing, that is...
