    F1 Safety Car SL63 AMG Video

    I know none of you guys care much for this car, but just enjoy the sound/throttle blips, and misfires....(programmed, of course!)

    Nice find. I like that car, too bad it doesn't sound that cool on the street.

    Glorious sound! And I bet it won't be much of a problem making a regular SL 63 sound like that too. Thanx for sharing!

    I'll keep an eye out for it tomorrow. They only brought out the C63 wagon but not this today...

    I was standing right on top of the pit exit most of today, and got a good look at the C63 wagon medical car and SL63 safety car. Sorry, I still don't like it. Does sound good though, but so does the C63 which sounds identical to it. At one point the two cars went out together, and the SL63 accelerated hard from standstill followed by the C63 which did the same thing. They were absolutely neck to nect. The C63 wagon gave nothing to the SL63 at all. They did 2 flying laps (not sure what they were doing, probably just mucking around!) and the C63 was right behind the SL63 when they got back to the straight. I guess the C63 is pretty quick! The picture below was taken just as this two cars were about to pull out of the pit lane. Hard to see it as I took it too soon before they got nearer.

    I hate the sound.

    It sounds ridiculous. A F360 stradale sounds perfect. A GT3 sounds good. An sl63sounds like ... what does it sound like by the way? It sounds like a old 964 turbo. Weird. Doesn't suit the car at all.

    There's no reason in the modern age, an engine should have that much valve overlap and sound like a lumbering V8 of bygone era.

    I mean, from what I understand they actually programmed in things like backfires and misfires to make the engine sound more sporty!

    Is it just me, or are the looks of that car completely out of proportion? The nose is too long, and the side view is too squarish. Then the headlights are ok, bu they mismatch designwise with the bumper under it. The rear lights are good, as are the exhausts, but the general shape of the part behinf the cabin is just weird... Dunno, just looks awkward in a lot of ways! Anybody feel the same?

    A CS and a GTS have a 3.6 litre engine. This motor is almost twice the size and is supercharged, which may account for the difference in sound. Apples and oranges in comparison.

    I completely agree. The SL was onr of the most beautifull car and now i'ts ou of proportion. The car is simply ruined.

    I've never been a fan of facelifts for that reason. Designers draw the lines of the car to make it look as good as possible from the start. Then, they can only change bumpers, front and rear lights. And most of the times, it doesn't suit the side lines of the car, wich stay as it was.

    There are millions of exempl out there.

    Not supercharged this time! Although a 6.2L V8 is bound to sound different to a smaller engined 6 cylinder!

    Also it looks UGLY from the front! A truly beautiful design has been butchered!

    The C63 medical car is the better looking car of the two. Now that is saying a lot!
