    This CO2 thing is getting ridiculous, diesel engine pollute more because they produce nasty particules...

    Doesn't mean its diesel, just means the tips are gone.

    The whole environmental crusade is a complete farce filled with inconsistencies and poorly though out witch hunts.

    I will continue to drive my GT3 with straight pipes and without catalytic converters, full throttle.

    Diesel is coming, for sure. All indications point to an early 2009 launch.

    Why sad? It is all about choice isn't it? Moreover, for big saloons and SUVs diesel is the way.

    Actually if they put a variant of Audi's V12 tdi, they might call it "Cayenne V12" and make it the top of the line with 550hp and an enormous torque...

    I think Porsche should come with something very special if they are going into diesel engines! Nothing wrong with diesel engines though, my 530d was a fantastic car, tones of torque and power.

    A diesel Porsche! Who would have though that modern times would have reduced us to this?

    if they dont put the huge V10 TDI from the Q7 in the Cayenne im going to be very surprised... its perfect for the Cayenne not that Q7 box!!!!

    If the aim is to bring down the average CO2 emissions of Porsche's range to help it meet proposed EU limits then it's much more likely to be a reworked 3.0 Tdi unit possibly with an adaption of the VTG turbo technology used in the 997tt to provide the necessary performance.

    VTG technology exists in diesel engines since many years. All modern diesel engines have it. 997 VTG is a first for petrol engines.

    997 Turbo is not even the first gasoline car with VTG. The Peugeot 405 T16 was the first mass production car with that technology, and there was a Shelby (based on the Dodge Shadow) before that.

    This is quite exciting, not sure about the diesel bit, but it is now time to investigate other fuels - and see if porsche can still make it a porsche. It just has to happen sometime, I'm kind of getting over it and looking forwards to playing with new types of engines.
