Help Pls: What Do You Use for Exter. Spot Cleaner?

Every few days my fairly light color car (red) would accumulate these multiple little black dots, about 1 mm or so in diameter, around the exhaust area and behind front wheels. I would assume it's either oil or tar. I use P21S Total Auto Wash which works great but does require a lot of back and forth scrubbing. I also used Turtle Wax Bug & Tar Remover but that doesn't work nearly as well. Any recommendation please?

Can, I am very happy with Griot's garage products especially the clay which you would need in this situation, followed by a coat or 2 of P21S or Pinnacle Souveran wax. The wax layer will make the dots less sticky and easier to remove if they keep happening.
If you are using a tire dressing, I would change it or stop it altogether, some dressings never really dry and they throw these greasy dots behind the wheels once you get to speed.
btw, I would not use anything made by turtle wax on a 130k$ + car especially if not followed by a new coat of good wax.
    Good luck.

Re: Help Pls: What Do You Use for Exter. Spot Clea

    Anthony,

Thanks. I've used tire dresser before but not currently. These are more like soot particles from the exhaust and/or residual petroleum products that the car's tires "kick up" from the road. They are more around the exhaust area, but also seen elsewhere on lower parts of car bodies. In my lighter color car, they are painfully visible, and they collect daily. As mentioned, I've used P21S, which (as you already know) is powerful cleaner, and am still having to scrub back and forth too much. I am looking for something that's better, more powerful and paint/ clear coat/ plastic safe.

I am collecting suggestions. For those interested, so far, I've seen:

    1. 3M Wax & Adhesive Remover (from Atomic)
    http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en...RglP6P3KR33VGbl

    2. Simple Green. I am a little worried how clear coat/paint/plastic safe this is. It sounds very powerful.

    3. Mineral spirits

    4. Rejax. More a preventive measure.

Re: Help Pls: What Do You Use for Exter. Spot Clea

I think I remember reading the label on Simple Green once and it was "scary;" I think it said something like "do not leave on painted surfaces, try on an inconspicuous area first."

I know first hand that a major European museum conservation dept uses mineral spirits to clean old leather artifacts, FWIW.

autopia.org is a great source for in depth detailing

Re: Help Pls: What Do You Use for Exter. Spot Cleaner?

Use any good polish (for example P21S Paintwork Cleanser, 3M Imperial Hand Glaze, etc), on the area and follow it up with some quality wax.

Re: Help Pls: What Do You Use for Exter. Spot Clea

I completely second the Griot's Garage recommendation. A knowledgeable buddy of mine turned me on to Griot's when I bought my first Ferrari. All of their stuff is really nice quality and fairly priced, imo.

Re: Help Pls: What Do You Use for Exter. Spot Clea

Just an update to my original post. I've bought and used the followings and they all work great, much better than the P21S Total Auto Wash. As mentioned, this is for those stubborn 1-2 mm black dots/grime, from tar/soot/oil/etc. seen on lower panels and the back of the car. (Those with dark color cars, consider yourself lucky!)

    1. 3M Wax & Adhesive Remover (from Atomic)
    http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en...RglP6P3KR33VGbl
Work very well. No damage to the clear bra, clear coat, or paint from my observation and from reading the forums.

    2. Mineral spirits. Ditto: Work very well. No damage to the clear bra or paint. The 3M stuff seems to work better but could entirely be my imagination.

    3. Meguiars Scratch X http://www.meguiars.com/?auto-paint-cleaners/ScratchX
The definitive solution since it removes the most stubborn of spots. Again, no damage to paint or clear coat.

    4. Rejex. I applied Rejex to the left side of my car's rims 2 months ago and used the right side as control. I could confirm that Rejex works as advertised. When it comes time to wash the car, there is visibly much less dirt/grime on the left side, particularly the front rim, which tends to accumulate more dirty stuffs.
