but they suggest power moves from 295 to 303 thanks to the exhaust. does it mean that XLA = +8hp on any boxster/cayman?

Seems to be a misunderstanding: the pipes may look like the XLA option, but the exhaust system is explained as technically similar to GT3 (sounds not like the PSE to me).
Also PSE doesn't generate any additional hp for sure.

Re: Boxster S RS 60 Spyder

PSE gives 1 to 2 ponies extra no? I read somewhere it does, but not enough to enfore porsche to declare it...

Re: Boxster S RS 60 Spyder

Actually there are items on this edition that I do not believe can be ordered on a regular production Boxster S.

    1. Exhaust System - This differs from the current Sport Exhaust System as it actually increases the car by 8 horsepower, whereas the current optional Sport Exhaust does not increase horsepower. Quite frankly are you really going to notice 8 horsepower? Yes, the sound is great but so is the sound on the Standard and Optional Sport Exhaust Systems.

    2. Perforated Steering Wheel and Gauge Cluster are also unique to this Edition. Not sure I like them, but my guess is that we may be getting a preview of the 2009 facelifted Boxster cluster.

    3. Badges and Door Sill graphics, yes unique, but really who cares. Not too thrilling that you are xxxx of 1960 made.

    4. Red Interior is very polarizing (some love it, some hate it), but if you don't like it, an alternative choice of dark grey natural leather in conjunction with a black roof will also be available for the Edition.

All the other items are not really unique to the Edition, such as an aluminum colored center console and gear shift, the red tail-lights (if not, you can certainly order them through Porsche parts), and the front air dam, is the front half of the Sport Design Package.

In my opinion the perfect car they could have come up with is the new DFI engine in the current body-style. Now that would have been a great transition car, and as close as a new Boxster could come to perfection in my opinion.

Re: Boxster S RS 60 Spyder

They're asking an extra Pounds5.4k for essentially 8hp, PASM and 19" wheels. Not forgetting the naff limited ed plaque and the questionable raspberry coloured interior.

Re: Boxster S RS 60 Spyder

I agree about the plaque. If you don't like the red leather, you can order the car with Dark Grey interior instead, though.

By the way, I've seen pictures where Carrera Red looked almost like Terracotta. I suspect it's a difficult color to capture. Has anyone seen it in the flesh here?

correct! As fitted to just an ordinary Boxster S

Re: Boxster S RS 60 Spyder

It's a shame that Porsche is using the RS badge to denote a well optioned car with a few subtle styling changes. Let's face it, does deleting the instrument dome really make the car that special?

Actually it's still a Boxster S. At least that's what the badge says. Now if it had a Boxster RS badge, that would be a shame.

You're right about the outside badge, but the badge on the inside plaque and all the marketing materials state "RS 60 Spyder". My point is that if Porsche uses RS to market a car, it should be something more than color selection, heavily optioned, and a plaque.

Guards red with sand beige leather - a great combination. Nearly went for that but cobalt won the day when it came off the "special paint" silly money list

The Cobalt is quite striking. I went for Guards Red, as it matches a certain Bridge in my hometown.

I never learnt to read either...

Re: Boxster S RS 60 Spyder

You live in a beautiful part of the world. It has been too long since I visited California, when I was young stayed with relations in Santa Barbara and Pleasanton for a summer, and later as a marine engineer regularly came into San Francisco. Definitely high on my list of places to return to.

Re: Boxster S RS 60 Spyder

Both of these cars are stunning!
    Congratulations to you both.

Re: Boxster S RS 60 Spyder

    Great photos everyone.

The subject of Porsche badging up heavily optioned cars with nothing special with historically significant names in order to empty their parts bin is a a terrible practice for their "future history"

These endless, pointless derivitaves of the same basic three cars (Boxster, 911, Cayenne) are quite confusing. It may be good marketing or sales practice, but it is certainly not in the spirit of Porsche's original sense of "only the neccessary".

Re: Boxster S RS 60 Spyder

Went to see the RS60 in the flesh yesterday. GT silver looked great and the red top complimented well. The carrera red leather looked a bit salmon coloured but that may have been the flourescent lighting in the showroom. I think coloured leathers look better in two tone rather then plastered everywhere including the carpets.

Anyone seen carrera red in daylight?

Re: Boxster S RS 60 Spyder

If it's going to be an RS, shouldn't it also have a "race worthy" engine? Isn't the RS moniker also reserved for models that homologate cars that are actually being raced at sanctioned events, as in the GT3 RS and RSR? It seems a misuse of the RS name and a marketing gimmick.

    It is. thanks.

Re: Boxster S RS 60 Spyder

i saw this car in the showroom and the only eye catching thing is the GT Silver paint, that's it.

Re: Boxster S RS 60 Spyder - sales in the US

    Hello everyone

Does any of you know whether the RS60 can already be ordered in the US and whether the RS60 is popular in the US, i.e. whether you have to be quick to get one?

    Many thanks for your help

    Jamil

Re: Boxster S RS 60 Spyder - sales in the US

They have just started showing up at dealers in anticipation of its launch at the New York Auto show. I am not sure about how popular it will be given that we know a face lift is coming.

Re: Boxster S RS 60 Spyder - sales in the US

Our dealer has one, ready for someone to pay for her , its very nice, specially the front bumper and the terracota interior, but I would like to know if those 8bhp increase are worth the money (which I really doubt)....

Re: Boxster S RS 60 Spyder - sales in the US

I can see this car taking a horrendous depreciation hit when the revised more pwerful and economical direct injection cars arrive this autumn though.

Re: Boxster S RS 60 Spyder - sales in the US

Hey Alex, do you really think Alonso will be driving for Ferrari next year? I can see you are hopeful

Re: Boxster S RS 60 Spyder - sales in the US

The car is actually a bargain. If you assume that you would equip the car that way with all the excluve options and price it out on the configurator it comes out to way more than the RS60 MSRP. Of course ya gotta like the way its optioned but if you do and you have the bucks then its a good deal.

Also, expect all Porsche prices to take a jump in the US. The Dollar to Euro exchange has taken a big hit this year and MSRPs on all imports especially Euro Imports are gonna jump. The one exception is the BMW Z4 which is built in the US. Expect it to appear and even bigger bargain compared to the Boxster than this year.

Bottom line - If you like the RS60, buy it.
