Porsche USA Downgrades 0-60 times for Boxster S

Today (probably as a result of the introduction of the Boxster S RS), I noticed on the Porsche USA site that Porsche downgraded their 0-60 time on the Boxster S from 0-60 in 5.1 seconds to 5.2 seconds (yes, 2 days ago it was 5.1 seconds). They did however forget to change the Limited Boxster S time of 5.1 seconds for 0-60. Let's see if they change that in a day or two as well. Are they quoting 5.1 seconds for the newly introduced RS version, and trying to distinguish what 8 additional hp can do against the standard Boxster S? Did they not want to print 4.9 seconds as it would intrude on Carrera territory? Or did the Boxster S actually get slower? Let's face facts, the standard Boxster S can do 0-60 under 5 seconds, but again Porsche does not want to damage the reputation of their sacred cow 911.

Sounds very strange - on the German website 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) is 5.4 sec. for both variants. Only performance difference indicated is 2 km/h higher topspeed (274 km/h) for the RS60.
Though the accuracy of the shown numbers sometimes is doubtful indeed: weight for the RS60 is indicated as 1,355 kg which is exactly the same as the standard Boxster S. Can't be right, as the RS60 has 19", PASM, full leather etc. on board whereas the weight for the stock 987S should include none of these options

i don't know what that topspeed means.

i've driven 284 km/h on a straight flat road on a NON-S boxster

I read somewhere that you have deduct about 0.5 seconds to convert 0-62mph to 0-60mph.

Depends on gearing; whether there is a shift involved or not.

Porsche has been known to do this.

Their published 0-60 times all coincide "too perfectly" with where the model stands in the schema of the range.

No one in their right mind would believe that all of these cars' performance are perfectly mathematically engineered to coincide with their prices relative to the other models.

It is ALL marketing BS.

This is the first time (that I've heard) they've gone back and 'rewritten history' to make a new model fit in better. Laughable and and quite pathetic if I do say so myself.

Pointless data anyway - less than 1% of owners will ever side step the clutch to achieve the 0-60(62) times.

Has anybody actually looked at the site recently? The numbers are 5.1 for the regular Boxster S, the orange SE and the silver SE. I am not saying that vincesf didn't see it at the time but its not there now!

You're right, Porsche changed it back within one week, and everything is back to normal, except the extra 8 horsepower has only figured into an extra 1 mph in top speed and nothing from 0 to 60? What will dfi bring if it comes in at 320 hp? An extra 3 mph in top speed and .2 seconds quicker to 60? If that's the case, then it hardly will be noticed in the performance department. Sure it will be more economical, but if that's what I cared about, I would have bought a Prius.

I think they are gonna DFI the whole 911 line first so the 987 will have a little more "breathing room" for HP increases.

I usually do it a few times the day I sell the car, or in the loaner Porsche.

Very true...it would be much more realistic if we looked at 5 to 60mph times

I agree but I think most people use the 0 - 60 times as a comparison.
