    Re: 718 Boxster

I just heard the sound of the 718 (non S) Boxster for the first time (first show cars for the 718 presentation at dealerships on Saturday), with and without sports exhaust switched on, and to my surprise I actually really liked it!

    Re: 718 Boxster

I know a lot of people who love how the old Beetle sounded... My kids' god father had a Karmann Ghia and while he owns a 911 now (911 s...old one), he still has fond memories of the Karmann Ghia and that Beetle engine sound. Not my cup of tea though...

    Re: 718 Boxster

I too heard the Boxster 718 sound and in all honesty it does sound better than in the videos we saw recently. However it sounds pretty good relatively to 4 cylinder engine.  The issue is in the comparison with the flat six. I am sure the 718 will be a very good ,fast, efficient Porsche  but the trademark sound is, I am afraid ,gone for good.

    Re: 718 Boxster

Still got my Beetle, with custom exhaust and twin, dual Dellorto carbs.. doesn't sound at all bad IMO indecision

The Scooby turbo flat 4s can sound pretty good, although that burbling of the old ones is apparently down to unequal length pipes before the collector.. Point being, 4s can be made to sound quite decent..

But seldom, if ever, as good as a six, and that's the issue - and the four is more expensive....Smiley

True - a turbo 4 will never sound tuneful like a NA 6..  I guess I meant that just because it is a 4, that doesn't necessarily mean it can't have a characterful soundtrack, albeit different in nature from a 6.

Alfa Romeo (and just occasionally FIAT) used to be masters at demonstrating that.

Maybe in the minority but I don't think the V6 turbo Macan sounds that much worse than the V8 turbo Cayenne was. Maybe same can be said for V6 vs v4?

The V6 Turbo Macan with PSE is louder than the Cayenne Turbo but I'm not a fan of the sound. Sounds a bit like a mixture between a BMW 325i (old model) and a 911. Smiley Not my thing. The Cayenne Turbo sounds very nice but the sound is muted. Even with PSE. Not sure why Porsche did that but I guess they had their reasons. I still love the muted V8 sound more than the loud(er) Macan sound.

I recently drove a facelifted Panamera Turbo with PSE and was very surprised by how good it sounded. It was much louder than what I recall from the pre-facelift Panamera Turbo.

Shouldn't the facelifted Cayenne TT with PSE wound the same as the facelifted Panamera?

Theoretically yes, I cannot remember the sound of the current Cayenne TT though... Smiley Smiley

I just remember my Panamera Turbo S and the sound (with PSE) was...how to put it...as if PSE was missing. Smiley No, PSE was functional, the mechanic was surprised himself how small of a (sound/loudness) difference there was with and without PSE.

Indeed; I remember well how underwhelming the Panamera Turbo's PSE was pre-facelift.

However, somehow, the facelifted PTT's PSE is a completely different story.

    Re: 718 Boxster

Yeah, the newer PSE's are a bit overdone imo. Louder, but less musical.

    Re: 718 Boxster

Test from the 718 boxster sur TF1 , french television, they find it a georgeous little car, with a real porsche-sound: the sound of the 356 and... beetle, and they say: nobody is questioning wether that's a real porsche, so: we miss the flat6 but the flat 4 has P-DNA and sounds very sympathic. They foresee a grate future to the newborn...

Last week I asked my sales guy how clients react to the turbo in the new 911 . He said they like it very much . And I asked what he thinks ( he is not just a sales guy , he is the main drivers  for the garage racing team ) and , he also said he likes it very much , that you get used to it very quickly  .  Also a sign : the 2 GTS  991.1  on the floor garage that they are discounting ( 20 % ) to get rid of  , as clients want the new 991.2

In Germany, things seem to be slightly different. The 991.2 Carrera sells OK but the real bestseller seems to be the new 991.2 Turbo/S (sold out for the entire year). Also, used GTS go for pretty high prices (usually over 130k) but other used 991.1 Carrera models are going down in prices because apparently dealer don't sell as many as they thought they would.

    May depend on region/country...

My dealer has a well optioned 991.2 Carrera S Cabriolet in his showroom...for over 176k EUR. Ouch. No wonder people are choosing a 991.2 Turbo/Turbo S instead.

makes sense that turbo/turbo S sell well in Germany, as you have the roads to enjoy them.

here, we cannot use most of its power.  Besides, I don't think most drivers here have the skill to use big power either.

I never read such a negative article on any Porsche sportscar coming from EVO Smiley:

According to the article the 2.0 L + PDK must be an aweful Combo   Smiley If they are right with their assessment of the 2.0 then the non-S may not be the smart buy at all (as some assumed just judging from the numbers)

The 2.5 L may be the better choice (though still some criticism in this article):

    Re: 718 Boxster

Not everything Porsche touches and develops actually feels like a Porsche. surprise

I hate to say it (again) but take the Macan Turbo: Drove over 1100 km in this car last week. It reminded it again why I don't like the Macan. It just doesn't feel and sound like a Porsche. It is an amazing product, very fast and with a nice interior but driving it is no fun at all I'm afraid. It feels "soft", it lacks that typical firm Porsche feel (no matter if 911 or Cayenne...), the brake is lacking a certain firm feel as well (in my opinion) and while the steering is direct, it just isn't Porsche, I can't help it. Maybe it is in my head but the Macan is the first Porsche I don't like and keep in mind that we have the top version and basically fully loaded, incl. the sport exhaust.

I haven't driven the new Boxster yet, my schedule just didn't permit it but I saw the car live and I am less intrigued than I thought I would be. For such a radical change, I expected at least some changes in the interior as well but... yes
