Help! Retrofit seat warmers to 997?

    Hi,

Found a 997 cab I like that doesn't have seat warmers fitted. It used to be possible to retrofit them to the 996, is this likely to be possible with the 997?

    Regards,

    c.

Re: Help! Retrofit seat warmers to 997?

Everything's "modular" these days in modern manufacturing so the chances are good. If no one here knows, make your dealer find out.

The thing about retrofits? They usually are _obscenely_ expensive.

Re: Help! Retrofit seat warmers to 997?

Unfortunately, while it is possible this one is exhorbitantly expensive.

IIRC, you will need to replace some major components such as the wiring loom in order to get this working.

    Any idea how much?

Re: Help! Retrofit seat warmers to 997?

my guess is $1000 per seat

Re: Help! Retrofit seat warmers to 997?

"Thanks guys. Is it necessary to replace the whole loom? Some 996 and boxter discussions I saw spoke about simply laying a separate circuit for the warmer. Is this possible do you think? (I have the dealer looking at it, but I think he is trying to avoid it...would like to be able to 'guide' him...)

Re: Help! Retrofit seat warmers to 997?

I would avoid the whole ordeal and keep searching. Aftermarket mods never are as good as OEM.

Re: Help! Retrofit seat warmers to 997?

I just had this done on a new 997TT as the dealer forgot to 'tick the box' which is standard fit here in NZ. They had to make a new PCM panel, add the seat heaters and do some other work. The wiring loom is the same, the seats just needed to be connected as Porsche would not make different wiring looms for with and without. I heard it cost them thousands of dollars though.

Re: Help! Retrofit seat warmers to 997?

Thanks very much for this! Do you think it would be possible for my dealer to contact yours if he is struggling?

    How about something like this?

This is actually very good for a child seat in the winter. I have one for my daughter and she loves it. She actually gets upset when it is not on.

Re: Help! Retrofit seat warmers to 997?

It is very expensive I took 2 power and heated seat out of my cab and put the seat of a 997GT3 in, if you need likght gray leather, you can buy my seats.

Re: Help! Retrofit seat warmers to 997?

I would never buy a cab without heated seat....

Re: Help! Retrofit seat warmers to 997?

Just buy some new seats and try and part-exchange yours, no other way. My guess is you would otherwise need to "de-skin" the seats 1st, apply whatever the wiring loom is required", and "re-skin" them afterwards. No way this is worth it!

    The final outcome...

    Dear all,

Thank you for all your help. And special thanks to K1 for the piece that helped us solve the puzzle.

I had seen a floor stock car and been offered a price which I thought was ok. I have had seat warmers in previous models, I think it is huge fun to have the roof off in winter here, which is mild enough, but the warmers make it possible on even the coldest Sydney day. I counter offered that I would take the car if the put warmers in, knowing it was a couple of thousand AUD on the 996. What followed was very funny, as it appears no one in Oz had tried such a thing before. The final, official, answer from the factory was that it can be done. The dealer's preference was to swap the actual seats with another vehicle which had heaters, so as to do away with risk to upholstery. The fibre optic backbone and the PCM needs some work so it is ok with the additional equipment. The dealer absorbed the cost, which must mean the real cost isn't much more than the 996 cost which they confided they had thought was about what they were up for...and the result is a car that is exactly what I would have ordered! Very happy.
