More HP is one thing, but what about torque? I thought the biggest improvement of the 3.8l engine was low rpm torque...

DFI gives more torque, due to the ability to increase the compression ratio without detonation (more precisely controlled air/fuel mixture right inside the combustion chamber). Reducing the displacement by 200cc will likely make the low speed torque a wash...

i was just thisnking the same thing!! 380-385 hp plus powerkit sounds sweet (400-ish). Would it be to close power levels of the gt3???

IF and it's still IF that does happen, the GT3/RS will then be around the rumored 435-440 numbers.

Guys, relax. The facelift is coming, official announcement apparently has been delayed due to dealer demand(the 997 sells pretty well right now in Germany!).
First cars to get the facelift are the Carrera 2 models, direct fuel injection is introduced, surprisingly very likely with a lower engine capacity. Horse power is rumoured to go up by around 30-40 HP, depending on the model. The Carrera 4 models are following a bit later, the 997 Turbo and GT2 very likely 2009.

Hope this helps. Facelift IS coming, this is all I heard.

Please do update us ASAP, because I'm picking up my GT2 today (hopefully if it's ready) and putting down a deposit on the new Carrera S becasue of the upcoming PDK gearbox, which is why I avoided the tip on the Carrera & TT.

    Facelift info and my order

Hello! My first Post. I have a background of Porsche ownership and currently have a Cayman. I ususally do the other Porsche forums but logged on here to see the 997 facelift pics - seems like a great forum so looks like I'll be around.

I have ordered a facelift 997 C2S for Sept delivery. I ordered it about 6 weeks ago and it was quite difficult to get them to accept the order, but they did agree eventually.

All the info is consistent with what I have, although very little confirmed; DFI, 380 hp 7 spped DSG style box, bumpers and lights cosmetics and interior touch scrren navi with bluetooth. Touch screen navi does not need buttons so maybe bigger screen?

I aksed about X51 option and was told something vague that implied it would not be available to begin with.

I'm enjoying looking at the pics and can't wait until Sept....one question on the DSG box - I am guesiing we will see paddles of some sort but what about the manual override on the lever - when in manual mode - push level forward for down change as old rally style and current BMW sequential box or the other way as per VW/Audi???

    Thanks.........

    Darren.

Re: Facelift info and my order

An answer to the original question: take a look at www.porsche.ch , it's the Swiss Porsche website, and there are pics online of the Geneva autoshow.

If you choose for the German language, just look under Sport & Veranstaltungen, then: Genfer Automobilsalon.

Just to make everybody a little bit more curious, take a look at the grey Cayenne picture, it seems that there are some cars behind it, that are still covered. Why would anyone do such a thing ??

PS: hope that this is not a repost, if so : my apologies

Re: Facelift info and my order

Could be some sort of vanity version, like the Boxster RS60.

Re: Facelift info and my order

I fear that the cars you see behind that cayenne are not porsches, but appear on another exhibitors' stand. Still no word about a facelift 997...

After closer examination, I dare to conclude that the cars under the cover are probably Citroën

Still, there are a few pics of the 911 on the above link, and they don't seem to be facelifted. Do you guys think that Porsche would change the engine, but not the looks??

Re: Facelift info and my order

Hmm... When I go there, all I can see is 2006 pictures?

And if you can tell the difference I say that's ironic...

    Re: Irony

Based on reliable source of information and consolidating info. from RC, the FL is completely done up. It will come with DFI and engine HP upgrade approximately plus 40 hp. The Porsche test drivers had started testing the PDK last year and had been consistently doing so and the PDK will come 2008 September across the board on the 911 lineup except the TURBO and GTs. The FL will carry us well into 2011 before we see the new 991.

    No facelift in GVA !

There is indeed no 997 facelift in Geneva, and we could not get a word from the PR folks about the when/what/why & how. Porsche is as tight-lipped as ever. Still strange that they would miss the opportunity, they must be freaked out about the sales backlash for the next 6 months.
All we managed to bag is a few interior pics.

According to the PR folks on the floor, the Panamera will be launched in calendar year 2009, so will not be at the Paris auto show in October.

Thus far, the most significant new car in Geneva is the LP560-4, and it's ... a facelift !

Thanks zeshark ! This puts an end to this thread .
The Lambo looks gorgeous !! Looking forward to it live .

Re: No facelift in GVA !

    So...when we could see it?
    April?

Re: No facelift in GVA !

I don't think they will introduce an update while there is so much uncertainty in the economic outlook for most of the countries where Porsche's primary markets are. So they delay it a year. Anyway, they are scheduled to introduce the Panamera next fall. Maybe in the spring of 2009, which would be the fifth year of the current 997 model.

    Jim

Re: No facelift in GVA !

I agree with Jim. At the earliest they might launch in the Fall, but it might be smarter to wait until next spring when hopefully the US and global economy are re-aligned and back on track.

    I wouldn't bet on it!

    Re: Puddle Free Summer

from what i heard the fl C2 would be in production on July. i am just wondering before July, most likely which month Porsche will show us the new cars?

    Re: Puddle Free Summer

    Guys,

I posted on another thread - I have a deposit down on facelift 997 for Sept 2008 delivery. It is coming later this year.

    Re: Puddle Free Summer

A friend of mine has an August delivery, the first one to arrive at his dealer.
For me it is not completly set yet.... I have been told that I could have one for July/August at my dealer.

    DFI Summer

    That's my take on that.

I have a order for a MY09 Carrera S (Facelift, MKII, DFI etc.). Order is acknowledged by Porsche and (soft) confirmed by the dealer for July delivery.

The dealer told me, that all June production options have been moved by Porsche towards July. That only applies for Carrera Coupes. All cabrios and 4/4S version to be available as MY09 late August/September.

That info makes sense, since it follows the original introduction of the 997 series in 2004. When first cars in Germany had been available before factory break.

That means, cross fingers...at least for me...;-))

    and PDK?

    Re: DFI Summer

As always...no technical specs confirmed, since order guide is not out yet.

    DFI is sure to come.

    Re: DFI Summer

Well, isn't today the first day of the Geneva show. Do we know anything yet?

    Re: DFI Summer

Well, I was at the motorshow yesterday and one thing is sure, there was NO face-lift, NO DFI and NO DSG.

This being said, in the Boxster board (Thread: Boxster Facelift Date) one of us found on a part supplier (Beru) website a table indicating a start of production of March 08 for the 997-II.

Some new parts are already in production BUT Porsche will start assembling the cars later on this year.
