Will the 355 Spyder Become a Collectible Ferrari

I just looked at a super-low mileage 355 F1 Spyder in mint condition at a very reasonable price. It would be nothing for me to pick up this car. I'm wondering if it will likely appreciate in value in the coming 10-15 years. It seems to me that the 355 is the pinnacle of the old line of V8 Ferraris (308, 328, 348, 355), much the same way that the 993 Turbo was the pinnacle of the old 911 series. On the other hand, the V8 Ferraris have not been all that collectible in the past. I'd appreciate hearing the opinions of all the F experts we have here. Thanks.

Re: Will the 355 Spyder Become a Collectible Ferrari

Here in Dubai, it's very hard to find any 355s! As if they disappeared from the country! I even tried to look in Saudi Arabia which is Ferrari's Heaven, still i couldn't find any!

I used to have a 355f1 Spider back in 98. And i have to say that after i looked at the prices in the US for used 355s, i wish that i didn't sell mine. And I'll think twice b4 selling my 360

I don't think that it will be a collector item, but i can tell u that it's a car in very high demand!

    Good Luck

Re: Will the 355 Spyder Become a Collectible Ferrari

    I don't think it's rare enough to be considered " collectible "

Re: Will the 355 Spyder Become a Collectible Ferra

Neither is the 993TT IMHO. I know someone would just sold one and it wasn't as easy as you might think, and the price wasn't very good either...

A yellow 993TTS even showed up for sale at a local low key shop today...

Re: Will the 355 Spyder Become a Collectible Ferra

993 TT-S is quite rare indeed. Unlike the 996 TT-S, which was just a heavily optioned X50...

Re: Will the 355 Spyder Become a Collectible Ferra

Mmm, probably not. It's wasn't a rare Ferrari.

The 355 F1 maybe become somewhat of a collectors item only because it was Ferrari's first implementation of the F1 tranny with paddles (Before this the Mondial had the first iteration of the clutchless manual, but it used a gearstick and was horrible!). Maybe the Challenge edition may appreciate over time as well.

But other than that, of the modern F's the 355 has no real supercar performance cred or some pananche or 'mystique' like Testarossa which Miami Vice made famous or the 308 on which Magnum PI.

Buy one because you like the car - I still see several roaming around DC/MD (I just saw a white convertable in Baltimore the other day with plates: INVEST). It's very pretty for a Ferrari and since its lines are clean, simple, and balanced, its design will stand the test of time.

I like it because it was the last of the small and low to the ground Ferraris. The 360, and 430 seems to be getting taller and bigger all things relative.

Re: Will the 355 Spyder Become a Collectible Ferra

The 355 was one of the prettiest and sweetest ferraris. I was so diappointed when the 360 replaced it

Yes I agree! It's been all downhill in Ferrari styling since the F355 except for the 599. Contrary to popular belief, there's no modern day entry-level Ferrari that's considered a collectible (just like Porsche). 308, 328, 355, 360, 430, are not considered collectables now, and never will be. Same is true for other modern Ferraris like the TestaRossa, Maranello, etc...I think the only modern day Ferraris that can be considered collectable are the super rare models like the Enzo.

You nailed it on the head the 599 is the only Ferrari that I like while the 612 is butt ugly and so badly out of proportion. As much as people bad mouth Porsches let's not forget Ferrari's are no longer what they used be. The 365, and 512BB were as a legend, the 512TR was hell of a car, even the 550 and 575 were gorgeous cars. But the Enzo looks like a trans am

In my opinion the F40 and F50 are the most collectable, still very high in demand and always will be.

Re: Will the 355 Spyder Become a Collectible Ferra

Ferrari: Demand is inversely proportional to supply!

Re: Will the 355 Spyder Become a Collectible Ferrari

F355 is one of the most beautiful Ferraris in my eyes. The car is so wellknown for its reliable and performance from pre-millennium era until today. Moreover, F355 is still on demand for many buyers and tifosis around the world. I, myself, had had sweet experience with this car for years.

However, due to its popularity and enormous supply in the market, I dont think it will be rare enough to becoming a collectible item in the near future.

    Just my $0.02, Kenny

Re: Will the 355 Spyder Become a Collectible Ferrari

I went from two successive 360's back to a 355. Not for cost reasons but because I think it's a better car.

Re: Will the 355 Spyder Become a Collectible Ferrari

The F355 lost any possible 'collectible' status by being beaten by a Supra in 'The fast and the furious' .

Re: Will the 355 Spyder Become a Collectible Ferrari

I think the 6spd is the better choice on the F355 (F1 system not mature at that point).
