    997 Wheel Bolts..

Some one quite some time ago posted a place where they got a full set of replacement wheel bolts for their 997. IIRC they were from Italy and were tungsten or similar.

The search function on Rennteam is a PITA and I'm struggling to find them. Can anyone help please.

    [edit]

Changed to Wheel Bolts, not studs. lol

    Re: 997 Wheel Bolts..

Titanium - you were close. Over $1,000 a set now when you can find them.

    Re: 997 Wheel Bolts..

oh jeez, that's them. lol... A little more expensive than I thought! Save 8lb's a wheel lose Pounds125.00 per wheel. Actually thats cheaper than buying a new set of wheels.

Someone on this forum bought a set and it came in a case with all the studs protected by sponge.

    Found the thread here.

I can't remember the actual wieght but it's more like 8oz per wheel not 8lb.

    Re: 997 Wheel Bolts..

lol, I just quoted the 6speed thread verbatim, without really thinking.

    Re: 997 Wheel Bolts..

What do you think of these? The Italian jobbies are nice but a little too much PoundsPoundsPounds..

Performance parts makers DesignTek have come out with a range of high quality stainless steel wheel bolts. Fits standard cars or cars fitted with up to 7mm wheel spacers.
    Fits:
    Boxster 986/987, Cayman 987C, 996 & 997 Carrera, 996 & 997 Turbo.

This pack of 20 is at a special price until end of March 08.

    Pounds99.00 + VAT

Not sure how they compare against the OEM bolts in terms of weight.

    Re: 997 Wheel Bolts..

Although titanium is lighter the weight savings is not a bit deal with where it is located (close to the center of the wheel mass). What concerns me more is the fracture tendency of titanium. Steel is a lot more forgiving.

    Re: 997 Wheel Bolts..

What torque setting should be used for tightening wheel bolts on a 997 C2S?

    I heard it was 130Nm...

    Re: 997 Wheel Bolts..

    Good question.

    The workshop manual quotes -

    Quote:
Always observe the specified tightening torque of 130 Nm (96 ftlb.).

    Re: 997 Wheel Bolts..

    Thanks for confirming that

    Re: 997 Wheel Bolts..

They've just arrived this morning as I thought I'd buy them and see what they are like. They're not bad I don't suppose, not entirely satisfied knowing I'd rather of had those Titanium ones but they are better than the stock bolts which are terrible, aesthetically speaking of course.

Not sure when I'll put them on because when I do I want to clean the wheel under the wheel arches and get a few coats of wax on the wheels. Just need a trolley jack and a Torque Wrench now.... lol

typical 6speed thread. useless overpriced mods when the person needs driver training more than anything else.

I couldn't determine from your first post about these bolts when you mentioned they would fit wheels with and without spacers - are they the same length as the OEM bolts or are they longer to take into account use of spacers?

    Re: 997 Wheel Bolts..

I struggled with that one as well. The website does say they are for the standard wheels as they have another product for one with spacers. The company confirmed to me also that they were indeed for the standard wheels but I have as yet to check that this is the case. I'll let you know.

Oh yeah, bought a torque wrench. 1 down, 1 to go.

    Re: 997 Wheel Bolts..

Just put a bolt in the front and everything seemed to go fine. However, the thread on the new bolts looked to be about 1mm longer, just for your information which makes the new bolt thread 25mm long.

    Re: 997 Wheel Bolts..

Believe it was Sergini who had the titanium bolts on his car. Haven't seen him post up here in a while though

    Re: 997 Wheel Bolts..

    He bought them from Poggipolini:

Any chance you could weigh a few of the new ones against the OE ones - i realise its more an aesthetic thing now, rather than weight, but would still be interesting to see how they compare nonetheless ?

    Re: 997 Wheel Bolts..

Damn, another impulse buy without really thinking about it....

The new bolts are 135g each. I took one of the standard bolts from the front and it was 90g. That's 50% increase on the standard...

    Re: 997 Wheel Bolts..

anywhere can get those titanium finish that has looks like rainbow?... could enhance the looks of the wheels
