sfo:the M2 Competition has exhaust valve control?
No clue. Exhaust valve controls are not forbidden but the "open" exhaust cannot have a louder noise level than the exhaust at the certification noise level.
It is my understanding that development engineers are trying to work around this handicap by playing around with different sound tones and mixtures of sound tones. Meaning: They loudness itself stays the same but the tone changes, so it is noticeable for the human ear. Will be interesting... They will also add artificial noise through resonators and/or loudspeakers (mostly affecting interior sound though).

Me too but this is the future.
I found out, by mistake, that my upcoming E63 S uses sound through loudspeakers as well. I always thought that AMG doesn't use this kind of crap but they do. The E63 S sounds amazing from the outside but apparently the car is too well isolated to exterior noises, so they had to find a solution to make the car sound good in the interior as well. Funny (and sad at the same time).

in the cayenne GTS, you have flaps opening at the bottow of A pillar which bring the air intake noise to the cabin.
no need to go through speaker, there is always a way to bring the sound through canals in the cabin.
speaker is the cheapest way to do it.

I know the Porsche sound resonators very well...
According to an AMG engineer (I asked ), they also have some sort of resonator working but it wasn't enough, so they had to modulate certain sound frequencies through the speaker system.
The car sounds great from the outside but it is a luxury sedan and needs to be quiet inside, so they had to find a compromise to keep a sporty sound in the interior without compromising comfort...or something like that.

In all fairness, the GT3 was driving on Cup 2, the RWS (I assume) on PZero PZ4 R01 road tires (which in my experience are great in the wet).

tony2006:Hi RC,
I am considering purchasing an R8 and am concerned about your back pain experience.
Do you still get back pain from the seat?
How did you work around it?
Thanks !
Out of curiosity: what types of seats does Audi offer for the R8 and are they identical to the ones from Lamborghini?

No back pain, I have the sport seats, not the sport shells.
Once you find a good seating position (various adjustments possible), the seats are very comfortable.
Caution: The extended adjustment package is OPTIONAL for the sport seats.
In the beginning, it was a bit different because I didn't care about the right adjustment.

Audi offers two seats: The Sport Seats and the Sport Shells. The Sport Shells look sportier and are similar to the Lamborghini shells with one tiny exception: They are slightly better padded, so even the sport shells are OK. For ultimate comfort though, the sport seats are the better choice. It is very important to get the (optional!) adjustment package for the sport seats.

Very true. You can make a very slight adjustment of a seat and all of a sudden you discover no back pain. Lower back is a very sensitive area..

A bit Off Topic, but after riding my mountain bike I suddenly got extreme back pain. Then I had my bike professionally aligned (there's a word for this) to my body. Everything was just slightly off. And after that, no issues whatsoever. I can ride for hours, without pains.
It's funny actually how sensible our body reacts (positively or negativley) to slight adjustments.

Interesting, Gauss. So your faster too now .
in the car - Fore and Aft adjustment can help also with lower back discomfort. If your legs are to straight towards the pedals then this will effect your lower back. I tend to sit quite close to the steering wheel, I like to drive the car, not the car drive me ..

The first photos (red one) actually show the facelifted version...
Still not sure there is going to be a V6, a couple of months ago, I've been told it has been canceled (they "replaced" it with the RWS instead). Maybe the particulate filter version of the engine wasn't ready yet though, so...
I am still waiting for a possible R8 GT (Huracan Performante engine).

RC, what is your knowledge or opinion of the R8 RWS? Looks like they've shortchanged it without aero and the differential in not electric, thus wondering if it will put the power down in a torque vectoring manor. Imagine one could get a tune to bring it up to the Plus level..

The tune alone won't do it, the R8 V10 Plus has a shorter gearing. You can get it close though (performance-wise, power-wise you can get it on the same level). Also don't forget about the warranty: A new V10 engine is around 45k EUR (or over 50k USD in the US), so not exactly something you want to risk.
The R8 RWS is a nice product but the lack of AWD is actually counter-productive in my opinion. This is exactly what I love about my R8, the AWD. You should see what I can do with this car on wet pavement, amazing (OK, maybe not now anymore since I have Cup 2 tires now ).
There is a big hype about the RWS though, I know that and the media kind of started this hype but you need to know that the RWS was (and probably still is) difficult to sell and Audi pushed it hard, incl. "convincing" the media.
This car may or may not be a collector's car at some point (only R8 without AWD, limited production of 999 cars) but overall, I would still prefer the R8 V10 Plus.
I know there is some hype about the RWS but I would drive the car first before you make a decision.
