    Child seats in a 991

After having tried different solutions to get "double trouble" with me in the GTS I finally found a forward-facing child seat which fits great in the 991 rear seat. Since it has been a rather painful exercise to find a suitable seat, and most information on other forums and the Internet in general is incomplete and inconsistent, I though I could type it up here. Maybe it helps someone in a similar situation.

    DSC_7013.jpgDSC_7016.jpgDSC_7008.jpg

I ended up with the Cybex Juno 2-Fix seat which is made for children 9-18kg weight or 9 months to 4 years age. It it is a robust, light and modern seat.

The Juno has mounts for the Isofix hooks in the 991 and it is easy to push to lock. The child is strapped behind an "impact shield" using the normal seat belt. The impact shield helps to keep the head up in case of a frontal collision.

The Juno fits perfect in the 991 rear and there is plenty of space for the legs and the feet. The impact shield turned out to be a great sleeping pillow too. In other child seats the head slumps forward in an uncomfortable position, but here the head rests on the shield.

I put 5mm protective mats under and behind the Juno to protect the alcantara and leather. Mats, seats and children were all easier than expected to install in the car Smiley

Overall I am very happy with this solution and the little guys truly enjoyed coming along Smiley

    @bluelines,

I've done a bit of researching. The Porsche branded Römer seats appear to be very old models. Do you happen to know if a Cybex Juno-2 seat is narrow enough to fit in the front Sportseat? I don't have rear seats indecision Thanks.

Yes, the Römer seat is quite an old model. It does look more bulky than the Cybex too. Material and design must have progressed in this field in the last few years. Modern seats are much more compact and light. I realise I start to sound like the Eduardo of child seats SmileySmiley

I did not try the Juno in the passenger seat, but I am pretty confident it should fit. The base of the seat is not wider than the standard Isofix mount.

It does cost 1/3 of the Porsche seat which is another plus Smiley

Let’s take this topic a bit further: what kind of seats/boosters do you guys use with 3, 4 four year old kids?

Re: Child seats in a 991

the porsche child seats are just fine and fit in the rear seats of my 993 well. the seats are light and basically provide a frame and support for the body with the regular seat belt. nice and light weight too. Work well from two / three years on, and you can then take the back rest off and use just as a booster.

Re: Child seats in a 991

Finally ended up buying the Porsche G1 seat afterall. Many baby shops around my area don’t have the seats in stock that I wanted to try and see if they fit (particularly the Juno). Plus it’s only for another year, year and a half, then he will be needing a group 2 seat already and I can do a more extensive search in the meantime.

Had my 6 year old girls in the back of a 991.2 convertible with Bubble Bum booster seats ( www.bubblebum.ch) .Got stopped by the Swiss police ( first time in 17 years) and they complimented us on the set-up indecision. They are also great when travelling to put in a rental car, because they are inflatable.

Re: Child seats in a 991

On another note my daughter is reaching the limit of fitting in the back seat of the California, would be the same in a 911 convertible. In the 612 it still works, and of course we cannot find a cool and unique 4 seater convertible for the weekend.

Re: Child seats in a 991

Maybe the new BMW 8 series convertible could be a solution.

Not as exclusive as Porsche or Ferrari but probably a sporty GT option.

DB11 is also a 4 seater but the back seats look even worse than the one of its competitors...

    Yes, indeed.

Why doesn't anyone talk about AMG? The C63 S AMG Convertible is a fantastic four seater for a little family. The new model also has improved traction and it is a very "inexpensive" car for the money. OK, this is no Porsche or Aston Martin but still cooler than a BMW 8 series. Smiley Smiley

I was talking about the AMG version of the C class, it looks different than the normal versions (wider fenders).

Bentley and Mercedes convertibles are for 60+ year old... Not quite there yet...

In Germany, you see quite a lot of young(er) people driving an AMG convertible.

One of my best customers, he is a real estate mogul here, drives a S 63 AMG Coupe.

My buddy, the one with the Performante Spyder, owns various AMG models, incl. a S class Coupe convertible. He is younger than I am.

Non-AMG models? Not so much. AMG is cool over here, Mercedes isn't. Smiley

I think too many old people are driving Bentley and Mercedes in Florida, this may be the reason for your perception. Smiley

Re: Child seats in a 991

I agree C class AMG is an alternative. But it looks somehow smallish and i fear the traction is even worse than  the one of my M4 conv. On the positive side there is a screen that goes up between the rear seats which is appreciated by the kids. And the sound is great...

But all in all in my opinion there is no valid 4 seater sporty convertible for the family on the market.  S class is huge, bentley very expensive and california, 911 and Aston have very small back seats. AMG should try to build a GT 4 seater maybe... I would have appreciated an RS5 convertible for sure. Medium size, awd, 450 hp and a price around 120 Chf. Pity Audi won’t build it this time around...
