    Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger

thanks for posting, i've just viewed the pics..

the engineers tried to keep it retro looking so that when looking at this thing, the viewer instantly remembers the old school challenger

    Mission accompled!

one thing i hope its not big and ugly in real, but time will tell.

    Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger

The outside is FANTASTIC. The interior is embarrassing.

    Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger

It's a heavy car (4,140 lbs) which I hate. I don't see heavy pigs as sport cars, sorry. But damn it's beautiful. It's exactly what it should be. No more, no less. I hate auto boxes too (except F1/SMG and DSG) but again, I really like this car. This one needs to have an auto box. I hope this car will become a classic one. Excellent "product". Everything about it it's "in sync".

    Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger

I could see one of these in my driveway. I hope they bring back the Mopar colours, like Plum Crazy Purple, Sublime or Hemi Orange. A colour like that with some psycho V8 power would be awesome.

    Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger

To be honest, to me, it looks almost as if it comes directly out of the movie "Cars".

    Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger

To me it has lost all the agressiveness of the original . It has become much too thick ( the trunk, the back) and the inside is like a Toyota Corolla of the 90' s.
I am so dissapointed as the prototype looked stunning.

Exactly my thoughts. The body looks all kinds of awesome. but why can't American car companies design and build a decent interior?

    Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger

Groom, the answer to your question is simple. Their product managers and designers are just ignorant. Most of them have little to no experience with European design. They might have seen some, but it doesnt stick in their mind that they ought to emulate or better them. They dont think about holistic elegeant design and touch or smell of materials. Cadillac is trying on some '09s but they still have miles to go.

In 1999 I spoke with the CEO of the US plastic injection company that supplied dashboards to the US big 3 car companies. I asked him why made such cheesy dashboards, his answer was simple: "Thats all they ever ask for."

    Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger

    This car looks stunning!

Unfortunatley seems the inside as cheap as the Mustang inside. The quality of the dashboard looks like a kids toy. The outside is amazing - so just need to get one and pimp the dash.

Or out of the "Driver" video games.

I really like the look of this car, just perfect.

    Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger

This car looks good now, but let's be honest the whole retro thing is going to make this car look like a ridiculous piece of sh*t after a few months.

    Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger

If I read this right, this car is NOT available in a stick?!?! Also, comes with a lame 3:06 rear end. 55 to 44 weight distribution. At least it does come with Brembo brakes out of the factory and a set of Goodyear F1 supercar tires from the Corvette. 4140lbs is ridiculous heavy...I just don't understand where all this weight comes from? Be 100% sure, this is a muscle car and not a sports car. But for the general masses and as a street brawler, just add a new stall converter and a 3.73 rear and the car should be pretty quick.

I just bought a new Chrysler Aspen with the 5.7 HEMI to tow my track car and that motor is just SUPER strong. It feels stronger than it's rating of 335hp. It's definately retro cool and even resembles the old muscle cars under and over the hood. I guess if you need a 4 seater, and tons of power, this could be your weapon, but for around the same MSPR, you could get a new 436hp Corvette that only weights 3200lbs with world class handling/suspension.

At least cars like this exist again...for how long we shall see. Darn tree huggers!

And they wonder why they're bleeding red ink...

It's a disgrace. That car is so sexy it'd sell out even at $100,000... if they put an extra $5,000 inside.

    Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger

They inflated the original design too much

Sure wouldn't. As said by a prior poster, the retro styling looks OK until a year from now when you see a few dozen every morning during your commute to work and then it will just look tired and silly (like the current Mustang). The interior is just so sad it is hard to know where to begin criticizing it.

And that really is because 99% of them will be some cheesed dumbed down V6 version for $20k. Once in a while you will see the SRT version, but not enought before the V6 version ruins the image of the car. This is what creates the downfall of all of these cars (and will again). Same with the mustang...99% are cheesy V6 versions. This will happen with the Camaro as well. Once in a while you see a nice Cobra/Shelby and it looks pretty good. If they ONLY made the good looking Shelby version and just called that a Mustang you would not get tired of it, but then they would not be able to sell 50,000 of them. So after seeing 100,000 cheesy V6 mustangs...yes, it does ruin the image of the car, regardless of how good the Shelby looks. If Porsche made a cheap 911 look alike with a 4 cyl 190hp, skinny tires, hub caps, no ground effects, cheap interior and overall generic looking 911 for $20k, it would also ruin the image of the 911, but fortunately Porsche doesn't do this.

Unforunately, US automakers don't understand this concept. I am not sure if it is cultural, wall street related, or just that they need to make massive numbers of cars to get a return on their investment. Why do they fell compelled to make V6 versions of all their sports cars? This is what makes the Corvette sucessful both domestically and now internationally. You can't buy a slow, dumbed down version of the car, and that continues to make the model survive year after year (like the 911).

    Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger

American cars just don't do it for me; gotta go English, Italian or German all the way.

    Analogy:

In the USA we _DO_ have some really nice vacuum cleaners. In the USSR their vacuums looked and probably worked like something out of a Mad Max movie.

Or American Sherman Tanks vs. Panzer tanks: same thing. Panzer looks muuuuch cooler (nothing like a "Dodge"):

    LOL (partially joking)

American performance cars _MUST_ look like American cars or they won't sell: too bad.
