    1000th Sport button question

    Hi,

    I was wondering if there is a way the make sport button "on" the default when starting the car?

    mind you I'm not looking for the PSE hack, just want the PSE to be "on" by default...

    Is this possible?

    ps: excuse when this has been asked already numerous times, did a search, but the search is not really adequat imho...

    I'd like to disable the PASM when I push the sport button. I don't know why those boneheads assume you want both stiffer suspension and a more responsive throttle at the same time. Why the frig are there two buttons? Geez....

    I have 2

    one for PASM and one for the exhaust...

    Not that I know of. In the U.S. if you shut your car off default setting will be the sports button off when starting the car.

    I have one for Sport, and one for PASM. You push the Sport button and the PASM switches to sport mode too. You have to press the PASM button to shut it off and leave the car in Sport mode. It's annoying.

    When I pass other cars on a two-lane highway I'm glad the two are connected. One push and I have a more stable stiffer, hotter car for the swerving action involved in passing (BTW, you get a bit more boost with SC in a TT).

    Most people don't like the wart

    Most people don't seem to like the sharper throttle setting

    Some people like the looser PSM

    Most people (driving S's) don't seem to like having to switch PASM back to "soft" when they do use the sport button.

    Hopefully Porsche will fix this for 997.5 and just give people the "1/2" setting for PSM as an option, ideally connected to an electronic LSD.

    Many ways to solve the problem.
    1. Voice control, you can just say "Exhaust" then the PSE comes on.
    2. When you floor the pedal, all things come on!
    3. When the car sense a car pass you very fast or someone tailgate or someone high beam the car, all things come on!
    4. A cop comes closed, all things off!
    5. A twisty road or tight corner coming, all things on!
    6. When you hold the steering wheel or shift knob tight, all things on.
    7. When the wife call, all things off.
    8. Last one, when the car hear another PSE on, automatically on!

    I've asked the same thing a few times here and haven't gotten a positive answer. The dealer won't do it and they say it cannot be done. I am more inclined to think they won't do it for liability reasons. If some day someone comes up with software so that the end-user can change it, I'll be the first in line to buy it as I ABSOLUTELY HATE having to switch PASM back to normal after I press the Sport button on. It seems Porsche made a retrograde step from the 996 setup - in the 996 the PSE was ON by default and only off if you switched it off. I'd love to have the Sport mode on by default while leaving PASM normal and for me to switch PASM to sport if and only when I want to. Another thing they could have done is to have another switch so that the PSE could be turned on and off by itself, in addition to the Sport button. That would be the way and would provide use for some of the buttons on the center console that don't do anything right now. Imagine having PSE on by default and being able to turn it off with a button, as in the 996, or any other combination as suits the owner. I'd like the PSE on by default but without the hack so that I can turn it off if I want it off. Now, the only way to do this is by doing the ashtray switch hack someone else has posted. This is a good alternative but is not a factory feature, which is something Porsche should have and could have done. I don't know what they were thinking when they did this.

    Not sure about 997S (didn't have it on mine) but my E46 M3 has a sport button (different throttle map) and with _that_ button on you can really slam into someone in a parking lot. Not kidding! It makes the throttle very fast and sensitive.

    I can see why it's not on all the time in my M3 and maybe that's why it's the same with the 997/S. When you press sport button it's like you hit the "agree" button on software installation freeing the mfgr from accident claims.

    996 with exhaust option had it by default on and you had to turn it off. (At least on my C2). 997 its the other way round probably for legal reasons I'd say. Of course it must be possible. In any case the pipes are open when it very first starts anyway when cold-even in the off position as far as I know, then it switches to the outer pipes once the engine is running.

    But I agree that it would be nice to have the setting available separately so that you dont have to press so many buttons on start up!
