    Tuning combos with Tubi exhaust

I have just seen this Stage II package with the Tubi exhaust (best sound I have heard thus far) and Revo chip:

    http://www.weltmeister.co.uk/porsche_997_turbo.htm

    Quote:
Weltmeister DME Programme, BMC Sports Air Filter, Tubi 200 Cell Sports Exhaust

    Max. Power - 408kW (555HP) @ 6000rpm
    Max. Torque - 745Nm (590lbf ft) @ 4000-4500rpm
    Max. Speed - 325km/h
    Max. RPM - 7000rpm
    Acceleration 0-100km/h - 3.6s

Looks pretty good package to me at Pounds4800 given it's about Pounds300 cheaper than getting everything separate. To compare, the Cargraphic 544bhp powerkit is nearly Pounds7000 and the Ruf 550bhp powerkit is Pounds8400 and you have to ship you car over to Germany for a week.

Add a Pounds1000 plenum to the mix and you are looking at 570bhp for Pounds5700.

    Hmmmm, tempting!!

Re: Tuning combos with Tubi exhaust

Also, does anyone have ECU mapping that comes with multi-modes you can select yourself?

    eg: http://www.revotechnik.com/products/pdf/SelectPlusPorsche_AdvancedUserGuide_V0906.pdf

    Quote:
    Boost:
    Range 0 Valet Mode
    Range 1 Stock Boost
    Range 6 Performance Boost
    Range 9 Aggressive Boost

    Timing Adjustment:
    Range 0-3 91(US)/95(Euro) Octane Fuel
    Range 4-6 93(US)/98(Euro) Octane Fuel
Range 7-9 Unleaded Race Fuel over 100 Octane

    Fuel Adjustment:
Range 0 Stock Air-Fuel Ratio (AFR)
Range 9 Performance Air-Fuel Ratio (AFR)

If so is this something you actively use?

Re: Tuning combos with Tubi exhaust

Don't want to sound like a broken record but surely a bit of research reveals that you can't really compare engine dyno produced kits )from the calibre of the German tuners you mention) to some "mickey mouse" high five switcher kit ?

Take a good look at their NM to lb/ft torque conversion - this looks about par

And please stop adding the plenum numbers on like a shopping list

Re: Tuning combos with Tubi exhaust

These guys don't just put on a set DME programme for a stock 997TT. They have the complete factory Bosch, Siemens and Marrelli engine management programming software.

This means they can program each vehicle individually - rather than offering an off-the-shelf performance programme which may work better on some cars than others.

I think I would much rather have this than any set 'kit' even if it is made by the likes of Ruf or RS-Tuning (CG).

The only thing that worries me is the rolling road (see other thread).

I can see your logic that your engine is getting a "bespoke" program rather than a generic program which Cargraphic would sell you and I agree there would be merit in that if a rolling road developed program was even close to one developed by the German builders mentioned.

Fact is programming using a rolling road is simple "band aid" programming with the inability to hold load effectively and recreate various part throttle loads, temperatures etc... Doing it how the manufacturers do it has to be the gold standard ?
How many project cars return to the chassis dyno for "further tweaking" probably 95% - once a qualified engine builder has signed off a tuned configuration (like you get at Ruf or RS) it will perform just like factory but more umph....

I realise rolling road "tuning" is a massive $$$ industry but we are fortunate that probably due to the expensive nature of our cars (and the $$$ of their owners) there are a (very) few engine builders who have invested in the equipment and skills to be able to give you a product which cannot be compared to a "chassis dyno power run" developed offering

Re: Tuning combos with Tubi exhaust

I just had my mind made up for me.

I called my Insurance company and as Parr (who do Cargraphic) are very well known to them as a quality Porsche shop, my insurance premiums don't go up at all with the addition of the powerkit!!

    Sweet

So, I have just placed an order for the 544bhp powerkit (middle loudness exhaust). Should be fitted early next week

    Reports to follow...

Re: Tuning combos with Tubi exhaust

I think you will be very happy

What do they say about the clutch - the stock one will not last very long with the assault of (engine dyno ) ~800NM ?

Maybe get them to do it while they are at it ?

Re: Tuning combos with Tubi exhaust

I don't plan on doing much drag racing, and will only do a handful of track days a year.

Might do it later (along with progressive springs, anti-roll-bars and fast-road geometry setup) but don't think it's necessary right now.

Was thinking of quickly getting a Performancebox, but don't know of anywhere this weekend I could take it to get some good readings before the Powerkit is put on

What I need is a local abandoned air-strip somewhere. Hmmm...
