My son recently saw the performance data of the 997 GT2 RS and was amazed how fast this car was almost eight years ago. A benchmark for it's time, indeed. Now? Well...it seems McLaren surprises Porsche over and over again. Smiley Smiley

I know that Porsche builds track monsters but straight line performance isn't really a magic trick or should be a problem for them. Looking at the initially rumored 650 hp for the GT2 RS and that water injection/usage of the "old" 991.2 Turbo S engine, one needs to wonder if Porsche is really in it's prime regarding engine construction/development and performance?!

This is actually my point...maybe they should (sometimes) forget about that, especially if they want to set a real benchmark.

nice for you having those sources and sportauto and the german press is publishing nonsense

What means normal tyres, is the cup2 R not an normal tyre is still a street tyre...

anyway the support i got from mclaren and from my dealer on tracking my cars (events, transport, support etc) is far better than i expierienced  with porsche and not to mention with ferrari. I guess i am probably now were with my buying historie at my porsche dealers, but so i am nowere with the mcs, no hyper car, just 2 mclarens, but treated very well and fair. I think that made my a strong believer in that brand.

It certainly indicates to me that bean counters have said "there's your budget for the GT2RS motor get on with it"

At the beginning of the thread we were getting excited about new tech appearing and "something special" in the engine dept but in reality is a souped up turbo S motor having said that I think we were being over optimistic as following Porsche turbo  road car engine development from the 930 onwards the S models and then GT2 models have never been much more than bigger blowers and a bit more boost so this is totally par for the course Smiley

Yet Porsche is obtaining those times largely through tire changes.

One here being flipped in the UK for more than 100% markup over RRP.  Are we going to see the 911R flipping all over again? Beats me who actually buys the cars at these prices....cheeky

They are just trying. In Germany there are like 15-20 brand new GT2RS being offered for a premium of about 100k Euro - none of these sold over the last months or so. The market is dead. If you want to sell a 991 GT2RS you might be successful at a small premium of like 30k Euro or so, if at all. No demand for these cars above MSRP it seems.

Its just some guys refuse to stay within their capabilities limits. You know, they get the car and believe they've become ""bertie big bollocks"" overnight. Plus, these type have their friend besides them and feel the peer pressure to go faster.

That's what happens when instead of improving your skills to go faster, you just buy a faster car.

In this case the word is there was oil on the track at the exit of a corner from another vehicle.  So not much this guy could do.  I give him props for being out there driving the car vs the majority of folks driving around Monaco at 5mph trying to show off or flip these for insane amounts.

Maybe that's true, maybe it's not.  It's always interesting to see how folks like to jump to conclusions and judge based on a single photo with zero context...ah the internet.

You mean the 48 hours impounded car 300 EUR disaster this year? Smiley Smiley

There is always some oil, dirt, whatever on roads/tracks, you just need to drive carefully. I never understand amateur drivers driving at 99.9 (or 105% Smiley) on the track, especially if they don't make any money (or get any glory) with it.

OK, sometimes you get carried away but in a brand-new 300k car? I don't know...Smiley
