    Question about Mods

Ok so i took delivery just the other day and the car (turbo cab) is off the hook! Much more than I had even hoped for. I posted the first bath/detail post the other day. Thanks for all the comments.

So heres my question: If adding new pipes, Fabspeed, Champion WERKs, can easily up the HP and is such an improvement, why doesn't Porsche do this from the onset? No one talks about modding a Ferrari of Lambo but they are all over Porsche, even the Turbo! Is it just for sound, with some added benefit of more HP? Believe me, Understand that, and now I am thinking about the Champion Werks pipes. I just would like to know why we are all so quick to improve one of the cars, if not THE car that set the standards for over forty years. Frankly who are these aftermarket companies in comparison to Porsche? Why would Porsche not use these types of exhaust systems, air intakes, etc. Are we all falling for the hype or is it real improvement? Not talking about asthetics such a wheels, etc. that is purely an opinion.
I am NOT at all trying to appear controversial. I am genuinely interested in these aftermarket mods. Its just that I don't want to spend money for the sake of spending money.

    Re: Question about Mods

It's because Porsche has to design the Turbo to cater to a large variety of folks with different preferences. Some may prefer a loud exhaust while others may prefer something more civilized. And in addition to that, they have a little something called TUV standards which they have to adhere to over in Germany. Many German tuners offer products that meets the TUV standard too. Cargraphic for one offers several different exhaust versions. One is the TUV "quiet" version and another is their "export" loud version (which I have). And plus, another factor to consider is longevity which Porsche has certain criteria in meeting.

    Re: Question about Mods

    True.
Costs being another one prohibiting Porsche from offering a system like tubi from the factory. The reason an after-market exhaust is very popular on the Turbo is because the car is turbo charged & therefore can really benefit from the gains from a free-er flowing exhaust. Plus the stock exhaust doesn't fit the cars character, it's the wimpiest sounding 480hp car on the planet in stock form. The F430's level of sound is a lot closer to that of an 997 turbo w/ an after-market exhaust so not as many people feel it's necessary plus the resulting power gains isn't as substantial as w/ the turbo charged car (w/ an after-market exhaust).

jfyi - Champion Werks doesn't make an exhaust ("Champion Werks pipes") afaik, Champion sells tubi which is the exhaust I purchased. Werks does make an airbox.

also - The HP/Tq. gains w/ the popular after-market exhausts are documented but I haven't seen any proof of gains from after-market airboxes. The one from Porsche appears to be very good in stock form so I would buy an exhaust before an airbox.

    Re: Question about Mods

Gregg, you're gonna love the tubis, got to hear them first hand this weekend, sound great!

Expensive as all hell, but I love the sounds of the Kreissieg.

    Re: Question about Mods

Does adding a Tubi (or any other exhaust) void the warranty?

    Re: Question about Mods

If you are in the EU then: http://www.scuderiasystems.com/M-Warranty.htm

Outside of the EU I have no idea.

Either way, if Porsche even think the tiniest possibility that any aftermarket mod could have caused an issue to do with your warranty claim - then chances are you are in trouble!

    Re: Question about Mods

im anxiously awaiting new tubi sound clips that im pretty sure will be posted soon, as right now tubi is at the top of my list in this dept....i think porsche would have a difficult time denying a tubi equipped car warranty claim as its largest us dealer is the rep/dist....based on what rennteamers with cajones have done to their cars these things seem pretty bullet proof....at least with the G1 engine

    Re: Question about Mods

One of my decision parameters was that the Cargraphic offerings are TUV approved in Germany, which should hold more weight with Porsche in such circumstances given they themselves are held to the same standards.

    Louder than my FS?

    Re: Question about Mods

Exhaust are changed very often in Ferraris (Tubi) and Astons, so it is not only a Porsche thing. Because the TT already has turbos, it is easier to gain HP for not too much money, unlike F L or AM...

    Re: Question about Mods

I love how my muffler by pass system turbo kick i quicker than stock. And it does so with so much hissing and drama.

    Re: Question about Mods

I asked my dealer if replacing the exhaust system would void the warranty here in the US - he said replacing anything from the cat's back is ok; anything further would indeed void the warranty.

It depends on the dealer. Mine installed the CG Loud for me before I took delivery. But, he did tell me to keep the stock muffler "just in case".
