    997 S track upgrades

    Dear all,

    Continuing my upgrades as I am tracking my car more and more -7 times so far this year-. I drove a GT3 around Silverstone and it blew mine clean in terms of a more "organic feel" to it.

    I have uprated brake pads, lowered springs, geo done. Basically I destroyed my Pagid R42 brake pads at Silverstone (hence the time spent in the GT3!) and replaced them with R29, but might have warped my discs. Thinking of replacing the whole setup, maybe with floating discs but I would want to get some feedback on chatter 1st.

    I am also replacing my PS2 with Cups, and am looking at getting if possible a GT3 suspension setup. Bilstein does a PSS9-10 setup also which I am looking into.

    Finally, the Sports Adaptive seats are not holding me, even though I have the G-C Lock. I really feel uncomfortable spending money on getting the latest folding bucket seats from Porsche unless I can sell my own onwards, any ideas where / how?

    Any views on the above appreciated (I need the 2 back seats before anyone junmps to the obvious conclusion)!

    Wouldn't be needed to add an extra oil pump especially with cup tires that allow for more lateral Gs?

    I'd say the same.

    @ JAG007: I'm not sure whether I'd commence to convert the 997S into a track tool. One mod leads to the next and at the end of the day you still have a compromise and spend almost GT3 money. Why not getting the real thing for the track (GT3)

    Get a GT3. Even a 996 GT3. The C2S is not built for serious track duty and mods will just waste money that is better spent on a GT3.

    I agree - a 996GT3 is a better choice for the track than a 997S (and will hold its value better too).

    If I lived in the UK, I'd be tempted to buy a 964RS for the track too...

    The guy needs the rear seats, so as obvious as the solution is, it isn't the right one

    You are right, fast, light, nimble...can be a nice choice

    Firstly, that would be illegal, the GT3 is not homologated as a 4 seater.
    Secondly, the rear seats would be inaccessible, as JAG points out, the Adaptive Sportseats do not offer him enough support, so I'm guessing, if he'd buy the GT3, he'd have the carbon buckets, which aren't folding seats...

    M3 CSL might indeed be a good solution, but not much of an upgrade coming from a 997S... My advice, but it's an expensive one, is to look for an Exige for a couple of years, and then sell it, they keep their value quite well and it's a great track tool...

    I think you guys scared him off. Maybe he just wants to keep his C2S and would like to have opinions on what to upgrade on his current car :-)

    Simple maths, my 12/04 car is worth Pounds45.000 ($90.000) at best, a 997GT3 Pounds85.000 ($170.000), so either I pay Pounds4-7.000 ($8-14.000) to modify AND keep my 2 seats, or...
    Realistically I am thinking of either keeping mine for 2 years up until the GT3 mk2, which brings me back to potential mods...

    Two options I can see...

    Option 1: sell or trade your 997 and get a 996RS. They are wonderful on track. You can get a decent one for Pounds60K if you negotiate hard. You could get a very good MkII GT3 for Pounds10K less.

    Option 2: Keep your 997. Take it JZ Machtech or Parr. They can advise on brakes, seats, cage, harnesses, exhaust and a hundred other ways of spending your money.

    The quickest and best upgrade for your existing car is some Michelin Cup Tyres!

    Thanks Scott, just turned down an orange GT3RS actually...
    I then consoled myself by speaking to Parr, Cup tyres, suspension mods on the way! See you next year then!

    If i can share my experience for upgrading a car

    Bought a sporty car for 46'900 Euro more or less. Wasn't satified with the original engine so i put a compressor.

    Then upgrade with suspensions, then with brakes and kept going up and and up.

    Finally the value of the car touched almost the 75'000 Euro . Not far the price of a GT3.

    Then a friend of mine, who did the same things as i did, Had some engines parts not adapted to the compressor which startet to brake down.

    He even get his compressor broken. Like what's up . The worst in all this is: "the car mechanicher said to him and to others guys interrest in this type of changes": "With those changes made, you'll never have any problems". Let me or

    As i've seen that, the alarm went on for me and i said: sell the car and buy yourself a car made for the track and the road.

    Today i regret my ex car but very happy about the decision i made and i touch wood that i want have to live an experience like that again.

    Maybe my share could help and if not then, i hope you want have to many problems with it.

    Well thanks everyone, I have taken the decision to buy a GT3 (or an RS if I can). It just is not worth the hassle to take a donkey and turn it into a horse.
    Now considering we are replacing our main car + our house, I just need to debate priorities with my wife...

    With rear seats installed the GT3 is a perfect family car But you cannot use the racing buckets and roll bar with back seats, so this does not work for an RS.

    No it isn't. Since the GT3 does not come with rear seats from the factory, if you did fit them afterwards, and (of course, heaven forbid) your children were injured in the back seats in an accident, I would not expect your insurance company to cover any insurance claim you would submit in relation to their injuries or medical expenses etc.

    How then does that qualify as a "perfect family car"?

    AUM, with all due respect to you, please think about the legal implications of what you are suggesting when offering advice. I believe this is also not the first time you have made this suggestion and also not the first time this legal/insurance implication has been pointed out to you.

    I have seen threads from UK GT3 owners who have installed rear seats (or just belts and boosters) AND obtained proper insurance cover for the rear seat occupants.

    'Perfect family car' was a joke. Clearly there are better family cars. But if you want back seats and credible track capability then a GT3 with rear seats or a CSL are the best choices. Until the lightweight version of Godzilla becomes available.

    Disclaimer

    Please check with your insurance company before installing rear seats or belts in a GT3 to ensure they provide full coverage for all occupants.
