    Re: RUF SCR-2018

    Ramin:

    I'm in Vancouver.

The prices I'm getting are not for anything super special. But I'm only starting to ask around as was waiting for a 991.2 allocation and did not end up with one. So considering keeping the 3.8L for life and having some fun with it. Maybe a 4.0L with about 500 hp. But would need to be very reliable. I semi-daily this car and drive it to and from the track. Like, factory reliable [minus the engine fires, backed out bolts, coolant lines...  ].

Was under the impression that Rothsport was mostly air-cooled. Visited them one in my 930 days and they were very nice. Dundon is sort of local to me. But I don't know anyone with first hand experience with them.

Yes, you're right that Rothsport is mainly Air-Cooled.  But water-cooled and later air-cooled Mezgers are not very different.

This place is further South down the coast but a good reputation for watercooled builds:

    https://www.bbiautosport.com/

Here is their link to a Mezger GT3 Cup engine build, but they should be able to make you something custom as well.

    https://www.bbiautosport.com/blog/2017/8/24/2010-porsche-gt3-cup-38-liter-factory-engine-rebuild

Manthey would be a cool option, but I bet they are very expensive and I would prefer to get installation and in-car sign-off on the project, rather than just receive a motor in a crate from Germany ...

    Re: RUF SCR-2018

if you daily drive it and not track it extensively, then 3.8 or 4.0 makes absolutely no difference.

    save your dollars for tires.

The extra torque from the bigger displacement you almost cannot notice.

just buy a used turbo engine for around 25k, with some experienced shop exchange them and you have a 500 hp with reliability and modern car. people go for 3.8 or 4 mainly on air-cooled cars to gain 60-90 hp .and cost easily carries between 40 to 120k. suggest you read some of the builds at reenlist, Trophy or Juha

    Re: RUF SCR-2018

It does about 10ish tackdays a year. Mostly at Area 27 these days. It will never be the fastest car there, nor do i want that. A 350R, stripped Cayman on slicks, Radical are all more sensible in an odd way. But I love this car.

Was going to to get a 991.2 but never got an allocation. And the 991 feel large on the street and I assume the 992 will be ever larger. So now I'm thinking maybe go down this route. Make my own ghetto version of a 997R. Just thinking out loud. Smiley

    Re: RUF SCR-2018

A lot of us have been down similar roads. Just go straight to the race car.

You will spend a disturbing amount of money and end up with a car that, while you can drive it to the track, you will not want to (mostly because you can't bring all the gear you want each time), you will not want to drive it anywhere on the road (because it's mostly a race car and it's not comfortable, its loud and hard to drive). And then at the end of the day you still have a less than ideal track car at which point you will either sell it (at a huge loss to the money you have in it) or will take the plates off and make a dedicated track car (that still won't be as good as a purpose built race car).

    Re: RUF SCR-2018

Absolutely, you are correct. I've already made that mistake once with a 930.

My intention is to keep the car very street. No cage, no crazy suspension, no slicks, no trailers. If I was going that way, it would certainly buy a race/track car. A used one.

My two local tracks [Area 27 & Ridge] are about 4 hour drive from my home, through some beautiful roads. And I really enjoy the romance [hope that is the right word] of driving to the track. Having a bunch of fun and then driving back home the next day. It becomes a little mini-vacation/adventure. The car itself is running well, it has about 70K on it and 30+ trackdays. So I'm thinking of giving it a refresh over the next winter. And with the local prices not being cheap, thought I could cause a huge headache for myself by going with one of the big boys in Europe. But I have no clue what they cost. And then there is the logistics.
