Hey throt, great to see you back Smiley.   Yeah this car came available and couldn’t pass up the chance.

Now the car is all taped up and ready for polishing.  Front of car is ppf’d so no polishing required there.

Why I’m doing all this, the paint is all swirled out.  In bright sunlight it’s just too crappy looking for my tastes.

Box o’ pads ready for action.  The wool pads are a new addition for me.  Interested to see how they cut in comparison to the microfiber pads.  Will try them out first for the step of compounding to get out the deeper scratches and swirls.

My buddy and I joke it’s more of a sickness than a hobby.  I wish I could go back to ignoring the swirls, but once seen can’t unsee them.  Compounding done, here is a before and after pic.

Here are the two polishers I use, obviously use the smaller (3” pad vs 5” pad) one in tighter areas.  I didn’t like the wool pads so went back to microfiber.

Re: New to me 991.1 GT3

Yesterday I was looking at an UV  GT3 RS for sale at my dealer  . It was exposed in the sun and all I could see were all those swirls and thought I am glad I did not go for that color at the time as it needs someone like you to own it .

When clean and polished it is stunning , but it needs to stay that way !

Re: New to me 991.1 GT3

I'd say swirls are not a question of how clean or dirty a car is, but how good or bad the maintenance of the paint has been before. Professional paint correction and conservation pays out from the very first day. kiss

Recently someone posted a pic of me in my car going through a drive thru on a local car facebook page.  It was after a car show and I was hungry what can I say.  People were up in arms that I could be so crazy.  So I shared one of the pic's of your GT3 with 3 labs in it (hope that was okay) and mentioned it's just a car.  That shut them up!

Thanks, for sharing your obsession - car looks great. So, ..... as I am completely lost with this detailing project, is there a review / renew  routine for you or is the next "stop" up and until the car is "dirty" (whatever this means in "your" language Smiley) SmileySmiley

Re: New to me 991.1 GT3

You are admirable , as even after you have spent numerous hours cleaning every part of your car, you still will take it to the track to end up covered with rubber marks

Ha!  So going forward I will just do a typical (for me) wash every 2-4 weeks.  Then after any track days I'll do a more thorough cleaning to remove the rubber stuck on the car and probably a re-application of AMMO Skin only.  There should be no need for polishing at that point.  In the spring I'll again do an application of AMMO Reflex and Skin, hopefully, I won't have to polish again assuming my washing technique is okay and the paint isn't swirled out again.

Applying AMMO Skin (which is a sealant) is a lot like applying a wax.  First I wipe down with Gyeon Prep after a wash.

    1554131161330prep3.jpg

Then apply Skin to an applicator pad and wipe onto the car.  Once I've done a body panel, say the roof, door, etc...I wipe it off.  Let it cure for 24 hours and that's it, pretty straight forward.  I've done ceramic coatings in the past and may revisit them again in the future.  But for the moment I prefer the AMMO products as they give a more natural paint look vs the more synthetic look of a ceramic coating.

Thanks Nick Smiley Well living where I live I accept it's going to get dirty, just means I get to wash the car again which I do enjoy.  Since people seem to like it, I'll chronicle a typical 'maintenance' wash of my vehicles.  This time using the Macan.  First post will be wheel cleaning (which takes as long as washing the whole car) and tomorrow I'll post washing the car.

First off, I rinse off the wheel / wheel well.  And scrub the wheel well to try and get any debris out of there.

    BD12EF77-B990-4743-87D2-715B49F6F5B4.jpeg

    B109BC52-77DF-4F2F-B910-ECF5DC834073.jpeg

Next is to spray on wheel cleaner.  They recommend letting it sit for a little bit, but I just go ahead and start cleaning, starting with the barrels of the wheel.

    3720F224-93EA-4AB8-9E8B-01DCB2FA9F84.jpeg

    84179FEC-7CCB-4F97-B9B2-5DC4D64A271B.jpeg

Then clean off spokes and face of wheel.  Making sure to get the lugs / bolts and behind the spokes of course.

    54FF95DB-DBF5-4736-8F4F-ED42F04A0192.jpeg
    636FC701-4D6C-4D23-98ED-E54610EF62A9.jpeg6112453E-1337-4C66-A908-C484782BB8C7.jpeg

Then rinse off again before spraying on rubber cleaner onto the tires.  I clean the tires every other car wash.  This just helps with keeping them from getting that dingy brown color.

    9356732A-DE06-4DD1-A931-6A2358C41E75.jpegF3B6184B-34E5-4E06-A858-FF345865B3B5.jpeg

Spray off the tire / wheel again and that is it for cleaning them.  Not many steps but it does take quite a bit of time.  Oh and mustn't forget the exhaust.  Rinse it off, spray on same cleaner as used on the wheels and scrub clean.  Then rinse.

    77D62CB9-EF5E-46BA-8F9A-A1BE3AAE9E26.jpeg74B7D204-6655-4B97-BC89-EC3BD01C5096.jpeg

Here is a pic trying to capture the before and after.   I used the flash as it was dark and it shows how much brighter then wheel is than before.

    CF3118D4-8766-4B2C-88AC-B26E4B9D452A.jpegDF41BFEC-86A7-4078-B036-7882038AE786.jpeg

That was painful to post with the strange orientation of photos that can happen here.  So hopefully you all got something from it.  Like I said, will post the actual car washing procedure tomorrow.
