I think the CTR2017 revealed at last year’s Geneva show would be an excellent step-brother for a Singer Smiley.

That picture is most certainly short with the use of a flash light. It doesn’t look that bold in reality.

I guess you're right, it would be excellent. However, the modern RUFs have never appealed to me like Singer has... for one reason or another, it seems like RUF approached it the "German" way: they just made it better, where Singer took the "Italian" approach by making it more desirable...

I think you have summarised it well. That's exactly the contrast that appealed to me. The beauty, obsessive attention to detail, and design flair of Rob Dickinson versus the ruthless pursuit of power and speed from Alois Ruf with the original Yellowbird and now the CTR2017. Air cooled purity versus its successor plus turbocharging.

Agreed  - it looked much less offensive in person, though the shape of the Pepete cut out is still odd.

    Re: RUF SCR-2018

Does anyone know how much the 4.1L motor in this thing costs? Do they do that alone, or do you have to buy the car/engine as a package?

The website says it's 4.0L.  If I had to guess, I would say this is just a GT3 or GT3 RS crate motor provided by Porsche.  HP and Nm are about the same and easier to buy one than make one (particularly given the small production numbers).

In fact, I am not even sure that there is any physical difference between GT3 and RS motors.  I bet the only difference is the plumbing into and out of the motor and the ECU tune.

    Re: RUF SCR-2018

    Sorry, 4.0L.

Catchpole, in his Carfection video coverage of Geneva mentioned its Mezger motor [link below]. Hence my interest.

There are some shops that are doing engine builds in my area, but they are asking US$40k+. Curious what a RUF or Manthy motor would cost.

Ah, interesting.  So, if it's not a crate motor from a 997 GT3 RS 4.0 then it probably is a custom build with Individual Throttle bodies (much better than the Standard fare from Porsche).

Pretty sure that $40k will not come close to buying a motor like I described above.  These guys in Oregon build motors that are capable of the specs above and would likely cost $60k or more:

Are you in Western or Eastern Canada?  If Vancouver area, not too far from Oregon...

    Re: RUF SCR-2018

    I'm in Vancouver.

The prices I'm getting are not for anything super special. But I'm only starting to ask around as was waiting for a 991.2 allocation and did not end up with one. So considering keeping the 3.8L for life and having some fun with it. Maybe a 4.0L with about 500 hp. But would need to be very reliable. I semi-daily this car and drive it to and from the track. Like, factory reliable [minus the engine fires, backed out bolts, coolant lines...  ].

Was under the impression that Rothsport was mostly air-cooled. Visited them one in my 930 days and they were very nice. Dundon is sort of local to me. But I don't know anyone with first hand experience with them.
