    Oil consumption

So I had my Cayenne last in for it's annual service last Sept at 14,343km, car came out with a full tank of oil.

5,541km land 4 months later in late January, this happened.

    IMG_6748.JPG

Because of the highly unreliable Porsche Dipstick-less Oil Measuring system, PDOM for short, I only put in 1.5 litres.

About 3/4 way back to top.

    IMG_6766.JPG

But that's just a ballpark. The electronic gauge shows from fully to the top to half way down randomly.

And today, exactly one month and 2,239km later:

    IMG_7097.JPG

According to Porsche's shop guidelines, the cars are allowed to burn up to 1 liter per 1,200km. So even with that lax a standard, my car is borderline out of spec this time around.

Unless of course they had installed a prototype F1 engine in my car where it burn oil to make extra HP!

The Cayenne Turbo and Turbo S's V8 has always been a big oil burner as you know. However,I suspect you drive yours hard than most Smiley , which must increase the oil consumption as well.

Oil consumption usually drops over time, so Nick's situation sounds a little bit like a...situation. I think he suspects something and so do I but I hope everything is OK. if not, well...Porsche will take care of him, no doubt about it. Smiley

    Re: Oil consumption

For the last year and a half of ownership, not counting the annual service, I had put in 10 litres of oil. No joke.

    Re: Oil consumption

confirmed with my colleague, he has early 2017,but its turbo and well, he drives very hard, he put 4.5 litre,if this helps

    Re: Oil consumption

My M5 burned a litre a month, the dealer insisted it was normal. Their "solution" was to put two litres in when the oil light came on (instead of 1) and then I wouldn't have to do it as often. LOL..

No worries Nick, if a small time vip like me get a new engine when the oil consumption is going crazy, I’m quit sure your new engine is already on its way....SmileySmiley

So was it in CTTS too?

Noooo, I’m just kidding with Nick. I was talking about the famous .1 GT3 engine, that now has ten years warranty smiley I’m on my third engine now.....

    Re: Oil consumption

My Panamera turbo has consumed oil nearly as me wine. I started to buy Mobil 1 oil direct from refinery..
The Audi S8 engine hasn´t consumed not 0,1l oil the last 30.000 km - every time I check it is full.

    Re: Oil consumption

Over the last 27 years of my driving life, I can honestly say I have had to add a total perhaps 30 litres into my cars ever. And I have gone through perhaps 45-50 cars. Lost count haha.

    The Cayenne already took 10 litres, 918 3 litres. 911R 1, GT3RS 1, 997 Turbo 2, 997 Turbo S 3.

Everything else I have owned got like 10 litres total, be it BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Lamborghini, VW, Honda, Mazda, Aston, Ferrari, Jeep, Chevrolet, Ford, Land Rover, Volvo, Lexus, Lincoln, McLaren. Even my older Porsche don't eat much oil if at all.

Think I am seeing a trend here.

Had a RX330 before, wife picked it and I can't get rid of it quickly enough. Worse SUV ever. The seat is so uncomfortable I might as well be sitting on pun cushions. Car has zero power. Engine just thrashing all day long. transmission has a brain smaller than an ant. The ride is shit too, like an 70's American car boat, feels like it would tip over for even the slightest turn.

had the same car(wife),never touched it,just filling gas whenever she needed, which was a block away. hated it, and yes, seats was very bad,on the other hand,LS400 was the best I had ,best seats ever ,drove 56 hours straight in winter from Baton ruge to minneapolis in snow.

    Re: Oil consumption

Worst oil consumption of all my present cars...R8 (here you go, Nick 🤗).

One liter of oil every 4000 km, never had such a high oil consumption since my 996 Turbo S.

My GTS (997) has burnt less than 2 litres in 7 years!!

The only Lexus I've ever owned, an SC430, was as boring as hell - like being taxied everywhere!  Solidly built and never broke down even though I wished it would, just to create some interest...mail

    Re: Oil consumption

2011 Cayenne S (V8) only 3-4 litres over almost 100K km. Have to add that most my kms are highway. Quite often drive to the Netherlands. In Germany I drive as fast as traffic allows, so not just cruising in CH at 140 km/h max.

    Re: Oil consumption

My two Cayennes needed 4 to 5 liters a year...

    Re: Oil consumption

None of my past 8 911s going back 38 years burned oil but then again they were each my daily driver. I believe using these cars each day is the key to not having a motor that burns oil.

    Re: Oil consumption

My car just came back from an investigation by my foreman. Everything checked out. Even the bore scope exam reveals that my cylinders are in perfect condition.....................

I am speechless right now about the oil consumption.

    Re: Oil consumption

Maybe they use the same piston rings as in Audi engines up to 2015 or so? Those start to leak oil very early leading to engine rebuilds with improved piston rings.
