That, and why does the rear light "sabre" need to be interrupted in the middle? Same goes on current Panamera's, is it technically too difficult to have a longer unit?

Latest rumor: 992 Turbo S gets 670 hp, apparently this was spotted in a preliminary specs document.

Unfortunately this high output figure also seems to indicate that there won't be 960, it wouldn't make sense anymore.

Sorry, this is all I got...

These light „sabres“ are illuminated by LEDs located at one or both ends, to achieve a homogenous illumination you need this separation as otherwise you would have a light peak at entry point or not enough light for the entire width.

Ah, ok, I thought they were illuminated along the entire side of it.
So, in order to get a higher quality (homogenous lihting vs the cheaper dotted look), the trade-off is to have the cut, due to the maximum lenght.. ok, I could live with that :-)

The main reason is cost... it is cheaper to have a few LEDs at the end of the strip than an entire circuitboard with LEDs plus optical lens. Due to different packaging it might also be easier to incorporate.

Yeah, that’s interesting. I assume they changed that due to cost/packaging/source of supplier. Let’s see if I find some details.

3 segments in the 991 indicate it's the 3rd generation of the Turbo with the ugly wing. 4 segments in the 992 for 4th gen.

The only pretty wing on the Turbo is the whale tail of 930, 964 and 993.

Maybe not "pretty", but I still love the original 911 wing best blush  And although the first wing, it is unusual in that it reduced lift as well as reduced aerodynamic drag Smiley  Going ~250kph with only 210hp was unusual at the time...

OK, so GT2 RS less 30hp.  I really hope that if the new 992 GT3 goes turbocharged that they apply turbocharging to the race-spec motors, rather than keep using the wet sump motors...

Turbo could come earlier than in previous new generation model introductions. Not at the same time with the first models, the Carrera and Carrera S though.

They did that already with the 991.  Turbo/Turbo S models for sale along side base models from launch.

    Facelift maybe?

I got basically the first 991.1 Turbo S in Germany (on launch day, a Saturday), delivered through a private transport from the factory (they couldn't get it in time with the normal truck) but this was sometimes in autumn 2013 (I think), while the 991 Carrera models were presented in 2012

Smiley It is my understanding that a new (not completely new though) engine will be used, incl. a "mild hybridization" and particulate filter.

Porsche Turbo S prices are already high vs the comps (eg McLaren 540???). Not much scope to increase pricing further IMHO . Seems like Porsche may be forgetting what happened at the end of the 80’s and that can happen again if they lose their base and only go for the quick buck (like Schremp did with Mercedes and it took them 15 years to recover)

Since I suspect that they want to raise 992 Turbo S performance to a different level, I think they can ask more money as well too. If they do not offer a 960, Porsche could get away with it. The 991.2 Turbo S seems to be a success for Porsche and it isn't cheap. With a 960 however, this wouldn't make sense. Unless they offer the 960 as a two seater only (which would be logical anyway).

If Porsche doesn't put a 960 on the market and the 992 Turbo S remains their top performer, they can ask the same money Ferrari and McLaren is asking for their top models in the same performance class. True.

Also, the mild hybridization could provide owners with some sort of "green conscience" justification to get this car over others on the market (not that I believe that other manufacturers won't go the same hybridization way...).

That is correct. The price they paid for a car is like a status symbol for some people.

True story, I just heard this exchange today in person.

There is this 20 year old mainland Chinese kid walked into my Porsche dealership, he sat down with the sales manager and said, "my mom gave me 200k to buy a car, I want a new Cayenne Turbo"

Manager: "The new Cayenne has arrived yet, but we still have some 2018 Cayenne GTSs at around 135k"

Kid: "That's too cheap. I would look bad"

Manager: "What about Panamera 4S? We have a loaded one of the new generation in stock"

Kid: "No, I want a Turbo badge"

Manager: "What about a 911 Turbo S?, we have a few certified pre-owned ones that's right in your spending ballpark"

Kid: "Can't. Mom said it needs to have 4 doors"

Manager: "I am sorry, that's all we have right now if you don't want to wait."

Kid: "Let me go home and ask my mom again."

The nickname for these mainland Chinese kids are embryos. They are like dime a dozen here in town. The most hated social segment of the whole city. They are the ones that buy up expensive cars and drive recklessly and crash them, endangering everyone and also jacking up insurance rates.

They have no skills what so ever, all they ever known was to ask mom and dad for money that's it. If the tap got turned off, they will die. just like embryos getting the umbilical cord severed.
