    Re: So this happened

    Whoopsy:

Never mind guys, I had an inspection done on the car and it didn't pass, so I passed on the car.

At first glance the car looks good, but upon closer inspection the car had been in accident(s) that wasn't disclosed nor repaired properly. The one of the headlights is out of alignment slightly due to the fender being bend a little bit, and the rear fenders were heavily bondo-ed, I can see the dents from underneath.

It will cost me too much to stripe it and redo all the repairs properly. Not worth my time an effort.

    So the search continues..............

This one is very special, and black too.

    Too special I would say.

One of the rare narrow body car, and this one only has 577km on the clock. Which means I can't drive it.

Good detective work @Whoopsy Smiley, I'm sure another one will turn up. You are bang on for not paying a silly premium for a garage queen. I had the same conundrum with the F40 and went for the more sensibly priced  but still relatively low mileage one in order to carry on using it.

Part of the hunting game Smiley

This is not an auction car so I actually have time to send it off for inspection. Had I come across it in an auction there is no doubt I would have bought it on the spot but will curse myself later when it get home and up on a hoist.

Market is going soft for the classics right now, so I am not in a hurry to find another one. Someone told me before, don't rush, the right car will present itself when the time comes. I moved on already and trying to buy something else, hopefully successful this time around.

Sort of pissed atm though about the non-disclosure of damages. None of which were recorded on Carfax/Carproof. Someone when to great lengths to hide the accidents.

    Re: So this happened

Sorry, you had to let it go but certainly the right call. In the future, you might be better off having the car inspected prior to making any offer. An inspection will not only give a piece of mind whether to make an offer but provide you with ammunition to negotiate a good price. All these oldies have issues and pointing them out during negotiations will help you get a good price.

My offer was subject to a satisfactory inspection anyway.

It was below market price in the first place, and I had negotiated it down even further. I guess this is the reason why the price is so easily moved downwards.

My rough guess is that it would need around 35k-40k or so to refinish the car properly. That would put it around market or slightly market price. The math still works but I just don't want to spent the time to do it because it is not a black car. Plus I am not pleased about the non-disclosure.

I am not in a hurry to spent money, they are the one that wants to sell a car.

    Re: So this happened

They must have known - and therefore must be aware they've potentially lost a valuable customer. At this end of the market, it's really hard to find a reputable used car dealer - but then again do any really have much integrity?

You lost me with the 4C. Nice car but a non-sequitor, IMHO, given your current collection or at least as a speedster replacement.

    Re: So this happened

    Congratulations on the 4C kiss

    Re: So this happened

Some months ago I had said I had my eyes on a 4C. Got side tracked.

I think it can be a great little thing I can thrash on a track to run with the slow group, mid engine, light, paddle shift and not too powerful.

But this one I just bought had special meaning, I HAD to have it. No matter what.

356 is a family number, and this while one is a 2015 Launch Edition car with ~22,000km, number 356 out of 500 for North America. Thank god it's not a Porsche, as I am not even be close enough to the top of the food chain to request #356 from them.

I knew my judgement would be clouded in negotiations because I really wanted it, so I had a friend do it for me. Asking for 60k CAD, he managed to get it for me for 55k, so like 44k USD. No accidents, clean car inside and out, still under warranty. Actually another 18 months worth.

As I said, the right car will always present itself on it's own.

Let me get this straight. You bought a 2015 4C with 22000 kilometers for $55,000 CAD? Are you aware that a new 2018 4C MSRP is $56,000?  I can’t believe the delta of $10,000 is the primary reason for you to buy this car instead of a new one.

    What am I missing?

A brand new comparably equipped coupe here retails for around CAD$80,000, that's about US$64,000. With discount it will be around CAD$75,000 out the door, just under US$60,000.

So the car basically depreciated 25% already after a couple years.

Plus, this is car number 356, I absolutely have to have it. Had this car gone to auction, I WILL be the last man standing non matter the price.Smiley

Why the number "356" is important to you if I may ask ?

BTW, I can get you a brand new pull-over with the number "356" written on it if you want. Starting price is 1 million EUR. Auction is open, and I'm waiting for your bid  Smiley

On a more serious note, congrats on both your purchases. The first one is exceptional. Smiley

It was a family plate number. From my dad and now me. All my cars except the 918 wears a 356 plate.

Back then he had wanted a Porsche 356. The purchase got derailed by his sister and he never got around to buy one again, but he start using 356 as a plate number. So it is sort of Porsche related after all.
