i’m taking our Boxster in for the warranty extension in three weeks time, I’ve booked a 718 Boxster S as a loan car for the day, looking forward to a longer drive to get a decent comparison

I have the PIWIS I copy and is all that you need. No need to pay for the II version for our 996. It cleared my airbag code so it easily paid for itself on the first try. It will come with the old software which may or may not work if you have a newer computer/os(I run it on an old XP laptop). But the old software is all you need for the 996.

Going a bit off topic, but I thought I’d post some snaps I took of the GT silver 718 Boxster S I was loaned whilst my car was in having a leaking air conditioner condenser changed under warranty a few weeks back

Yes steering is quicker and sharper, seems to have a bit more feel; PDK also even better; infotainment has come out of the Stone Age. The 718S is definitely faster than our 981 GTS too, much more eager at lower revs due to the better torque. I’d say the fuel economy better too. I don’t like the interior so much, the restyled vents are ugly and I don’t understand why the sport chrono dial has gone from being nicely integrated to the unwanted return of “the wart”. But the smaller steering wheel is welcome, the new multi-function wheel in a different universe to the awful ugly one on the previous cars
Based on this the 718 GT4 is going to be a pretty amazing car!

KMM:Dreamcar, did you get the impression that the new steering wheel feels more plasticky than the previous one?
Can’t really say as the GTS wheel is alcantara.

I don't think it will be hard to get a 718 GT4. The RS maybe, if it even comes, but I am sure the normal 718 GT4 will be a blast. Unless it has 4 cylinders. And turbo.
