I thought the "benchmark" is always the Porsche Turbo? SmileySmiley

    Smiley Smiley Got me here...

When they introduced this slogan with the 991.1 Turbo S, I was quite surprised as well because even then, the 911 Turbo S was no benchmark.

I think Porsche simply overslept the straight line performance increase of the past couple of years and concentrated way too much on track performance.

They tried to "save" this by making the 911 Turbo S a 0-100 kph acceleration monster but it wasn't enough.

The strategy worked, the 911 Turbo S sold (and still sells?) pretty well as far as I understood but I still think that Porsche lost lots of former loyal Porsche customers in the process.

Ferrari looked more into the future and was spot on: The power increase from the 458 to the 488 was a whopping 100 hp, while the 991.1 Turbo S got a ridiculous 30 hp power increase over the previous 997.2 Turbo S model.

I still cannot understand the strategy behind this but I guess Porsche was never about power only, even if I think that this could bite them in the ass sooner or later and probably already did (McLaren and other manufacturers closing in...or even overtaking them).

LOL. There's no way that's a photoshop. Even the poor exposure of the color red looks right. Would be a hell of a PS artist to put that much work into a random shitty car pic of all things.

That hood looks really good. That's a huge improvement over the speciale and the 488 in terms of front end. 488 was always a lame f1 wannabe.

60's Ferraris are some of the coolest, dare I say swagtastic, things in the world and were owned by royalty and the most interesting celebrities in world. They had names like the 410 and then later 500 SuperFast. Ergo that means that the 812 SuperFast which harkens back to the day of the ultra cool, swagtastic Ferraris of yesteryear is not a silly name but an epically cool one.

    Re: 488 GTB/GTS

I know the history of the SuperFast name, but that doesn't justify it not being a silly name.

They should have used Super Veloce instead, but then again Lambo is already using that name.

Well they could always called it Super Schnell

    Re: 488 GTB/GTS

Popped into a local dealer on Saturday and had a long chat and look around a 488.  I have to say I was impressed - the salesman was very informed and obviously a petrolhead himself.  I was also impressed by the car - lots of interesting small details and nice touches.  The service package really makes it an interesting proposition.. Fully inclusive servicing for 7 years? wow.  Even outside of that, the service costs they were quoting were very reasonable.  Quite an eye-opener.

The 7 year free service package is worth around 20k by itself. 7 yearly oil changes and a bigger service every 2 years.

One only realized the whole 20k value if one keep the car for 7 years though.

I do like the gesture though. For people like me who can deal with Porsche ownership but are a bit wary about more exotic stuff like Ferrari, Lambo, Aston, McLaren - it does serve to  de-risk things quite a bit  Also speaks to their confidence in their product.

it is a fantastic car. fast, comfy, great looking. rides like a bentley on the highway and liker the GT3 on the track::)))) beats everything by far PAG has to offer except the 918, certainly for a price (btw, in austria almost the same as the GT3RS 991.1).

Before yesterday I was about 60/40, RS vs 570. Now I am interested in looking a little further into the 488.

the only disadvantage the 488 has (for me) is that it is really much wider that the GT3RS. but here the issue is which roads you drive and your garage. also, italian and french highway toll stations can be very tedious to pass (particularly the french ones).
