Well, let's hope that the driving feel will be more like the F430 or Scuderia than the heavy and somehow sluggish Testarossa.

The Testarossa may have been heavy and sluggish but was very exotic and still today very beautiful.

I would love to see Ferrari make well designed cars like the 355, Testarossa and F40 again.

Since the 456GT they have lost their looks.

Hi there guys. I want to share with you information I just have posted on f-chat.

I have just finished phone talk with my dealer in Germany. I can say that he always was very reputable and always had all fresh news from F-factory. He told me about 430 Scuderia launch back in April, when I have not heard even not a word from any mag or web. All that he said was confirmed only in July, when first offical reviews showed up in press. So I called my dealer to discuss my December 430 Scuderia colours and selected options and we had 2 hours phone talk regarding my 430 Scuderia specs and about Ferrari new models adding to Ferrari model range in 2008/2009. And so what he told me about Ferrari future models:

    1) "F149" or so called 430 California GT will be launched next Spring, during Geneva auto show (similar information from his F-dealer have F-chat member "icemanbops". This car will be equipped with more than 500 HP engine and will be priced aproximatly same as current F430 Berlinetta. Only thing my dealer in not sure is if 430 California GT will be hardtop convertible, but told me that this scenario is quite expected.

    2) "F142" will be launched in September 2009, during Frankfurt auto show, Spider will be launched in January 2010, during Detroit auto show. So Ferrari will continue their FIVE YEARS PRODUCTION CYCLE:

    F355 - 1994
    360 Modena - 1999
    F430 - 2004
    "F142" - 2009

So this seems quite logical and possible scenario. My dealer told me that "F142" will feature completely new style, chassis, engine, interior - everything. My dealer told that with "F142" Ferrari is now focusing not on HP amount, but more on horsepower/ton ratio and that "F142" probably will be equipped with monocoque chassis and full carbon body. "F142" will be to the 360 Modena/F430 range, like what the 360 Modena was to the 348/355 range. So it will next step in F-supercars developement.

May be my other news and information is not so important for 360/430 section but still I will post it down here:

    1) SLR Roadster's big market success inspired Ferrari to launch 599 Spider sooner as expected. This Ferrari convertible will be launched next Autumn or at least during Detroit auto show in January 2009. Now Ferrari is working on some extraordinary roof construction to make car totally unique. 599 Spider will have 640 HP engine, 20 HP more than 599 GTB. That is all information my dealer have as for now, but he promissed to keep me updating, because I really want to order one and put down my name for it.

    2) Ferrari is continuing F40 - F50 - Enzo - F70 SEVEN YEARS PRODUCTION CYCLE. Year 2009 will be the year of NEXT Ferrari HYPERCAR launch. My dealer do not know any tech details of F70 as for now.

That is all I know from my dealer about Ferrari new models. I hope so much that my given information is fresh and true. Best.

    Thx for insights

If true, a $200Kish CA GT flip-top may be shrewd financial/marketing strategy on part of F....

If produced in 5K/yr+ units, will likely elim much of US 430 waitlist issues/resale value Ponzi scheme....and MSRP pricing will send profits to mfr rather than dealers (who capture the premia)....

Many consumers will re-consider buying a $150K-$200K 997TT/SL63....when one can have a more powerful brand like F, for lease pmts of only a few dollars more/mth...

And CA GT launch will force P and AMG to step up R&D advances and carefully consider pricing vs CA GT lease pmts....

Doubt mkt for $200Kish cars is growing much in '08-'09's slowing US/EU economies, so F may just capture mkt share in a stagnant mkt....

Better profits/mkt share and an iconic global brand....the stuff of IPOs/LBOs....

All in context of a slowing US/EU economy...great times to be a consumer of F/P/AMG....w/likely discts and cheap leases to retain mkt share...

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

I do hope that the F142 would still be alumunium and not CF. Heard that some Carrera GTs' CF yellows over time..

I don't think we will see a full-CF-car. In an Enzo it's a different story, but too expensive for a car like the F430-successor, even if this model moves upwards.

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

Thank you very much for your info !

So if the F149 will be priced at the F430 level, indeed as Ferrari management states, it is not to be considered as a "small" Ferrari.

Furthermore, to pursue their aim to increase their production output, they don't rely on a lower price but on the fact that a 2+2 front-engined car is more mainstream and daily-useable than a mid-engined berlinetta.
Some weeks ago I read an Autocar article saying Ferrari realises the greater potential of such a layout in term of sales in particular by observing the DB9 success.

Also will there be a successor to the 612 Scaglietti, or will 2 2+2 front-engined coupes in the same range be too redundant ?

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

With this F142, is that implying its engine displacement or is it just the codename of the prototype?

Just code name. The F430 was AC 131E I believe

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

    Thanks Srf!

After the influx of automobile sites publishing articles about Ferrari possibly using a bi-turbo V8 for its Enzo successor, what do you guys think will the powerplant be used in the F142?

    Bi-turbo V8 too.

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

NA V8 for the 430 replacement and BiTurbo V8 for the next "Enzo"

    Bi-turbo V8 too.

Hm, could really be... And I'm sure they'll manage to get it nearly lag-free.

But personally I'd prefer some high revving N/A engine. I'd be fine with the brillant 4.3 V8 if the successor would be much smaller and lighter (as the Millechili concept suggested).

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

Funny, starts to sound like Porsche with NA GT3 vs Turbo GT2...

Believe it or not, very high revving bi-turbo small capacity V8..

andrea, if you had to choose between a Scuderia, a F142 and a Scuderia Spider, what would you take?

F142 will be much more "hardcore" sportscar, ferrari with californi set hands free to put on another level the f142 that will be no more "entry level" ferrari.Next f142 "challenge stradale or scuderia name" will be much more track oriented. So actual scuderia is not for me. The spider feeling is unbelievable for who try it,the sound, the sensations are amplified. If you want a car not for track or "hard" use get f142 spider.on other way, order the f142 spider and keep it until f142 "scuderia" will be available

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

So F142 will come with a spider after all, despite the California being a hard top convertible? Any idea about power level and weight?

Apparently the Scuderia spider weights the same or less than the Scuderia, is that possible?

    power level 550-600hp

430 Scuderia "Spider" will be a "barchetta" version,a different thing so also lighter.

It will be semi targa with folding hardtop.

I think we've seen a sketch of this folding hardtop already. Somebody still got it and could post it again?

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

I'm wondering how they plan to lighten the car while retaining structural rigidity AND equip it with a folding hard-top? I'm thinking they may use a roof similar in design to that of the 575 Superamerica.

That is a very poor design for use in the real world. If it begins to rain or if any other crap falls on the inside of the roof when it is open, then all that is dumped on the interior of the car (including driver and passenger) when the roof is closed...
