    Envy is delicious.

yes it is - enjoy... Love ya man,  but you must admit your car may cause the same point to be made.

Personally I do not feed on others envy nor do I seek it. I enjoy driving my car fast and that is about it.

To a point, you're correct. I think I can get about 75% of the GT3 ability. Still much higher than 60%.cool

Not yet. However, there are many roads in the area to exercise the car and test your driving abilities. Should an incident occur the car will be covered by insurance. Not so on a track.

I just bought track insurance.  Not cheap, but possible.  Animal Premium was 3.6% of agreed value with 5% deductible. Unlimited track use for 1 year for all US tracks (extra $500 to include Canadian tracks).  Includes coverage for instructor too.

    https://www.theopentrack.com/

There is also a company, Lockton, that sells track insurance on a per event basis.

Euro Delivery is still the best way to acquire track insurance (free for 16 Days with 1,000 Euro deductible, extendable for up to 6 months for additional cost...

Self collision insure like Sun and Sky do -  you wreck you write the cheque, very simple.  And basic insurance to protect from others off track.  No track worries.smiley

I agree this is best, but in this case I couldn’t easily survive an uninsured total loss...

Grant. You are such a track animal. (How much is animal insurance per year?)

Lockton is local from KC. The owner has had many Porsches in the past I have heard.

Not that much of an animal - only tracking the GT3 occasionally, but too nervous to even do that without coverage.  $6,500 annually for $175k coverage (5% deductible, unlimited tracking at all US tracks, $500 extra for Canada).

If I could afford it, I'd do self-insurance.  I think the chances of a huge loss are relatively low, but not zero...

I would say its very good deal, I know a guy totalled 3 GT3 in a row several years ago,but he covered all of them because of insurance, I see guys driving without insurance but very risky

That’s pretty expensive but worth it if you total the car.  I must admit my ‘animal’ reference was due to your earlier typo. I would never point that out to our non English speaking friends. It’s all good.   Cheers

Stupid question: Since the Nordschleife is no track, does a track insurance pay up? The road insurance surely doesn't. Could be a tricky situation here.

It is only a regular pay road when open for touristdriving.

Otherwise it is a track. A trackday for instance.

I have insurance during the Scuderia Hanseat for instance. But nor for the Tourist driving before and after the Scuderia trackdays. (Well my normal road insurance covers third party damages during Tourist driving but damages that my car ends up with is for me to pay.)

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

If you go on TF (tourist day), regular car insurance coverage is insured. Police will even show up to make the report...

on track days, you will need a track insurance.

FWIW: Porsche offers "Porsche Shield" in Germany [1] which lets you insure special "events" for a short time. Such an event could be letting someone else drive the car (€8/day) or a track day (€199). As far as I can see that would cover a day on the ring. Obviously there is some fine print that one has to read.

That is true but depending on your insurance (country and company) they might have some fineprint in the contract regarding driving on the Nordschleife - that is the case with my insurance company.

I have confirmed multiple times that the insurance included with European Delivery for US customers covers all roads and all tracks (as long as not sanctioned race) with only 1,000 EUR deductible.  Covers both TF and Trackdays at Ring for free for 16 days...

Not sure about Track Insurance in Europe for TF...

The US policies are so restrictive, even designated driver education events are not covered if at a track. Insurance companies are not stupid enough to fall for that gimmick.

Watt, your an investment guy and savvy about money. Why would you risk $200,000 just to save $6500 especially if your able to afford the $6500 and it would buy you piece of mind in enjoying tracking your car?yes

If you can afford the potential $200k loss and you calculate that the chance of total loss is far less than 1 in 30 per year, then self-insurance makes more sense.  Also, the cost is more than $6,500 for $200k coverage (that's for $175k) - sliding scale...

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

Grant, you could use that logic regarding all insurance. Also, you're not factoring the intangible of not truly exercising the car on the track in fear of a collision because you're self insured.

    nberry:

I agree.  If you can afford to do so (a total loss is not that big a deal), it's almost always the better option to self-insure.  Particularly if you invest the premium money...

My financial circumstances would not allow me to brush off a total loss of things like my home and car, so insurance...

As a corollary, if you are moderately wealthy but cannot easily survive a total loss of your house/car, then it is usually financially advantageous to use a much higher deductible.  Most homeowners and auto insurance has a $500 or $1,000 deductible with high premiums.  If you increase the deductible to $10k or $25k, you'll save a ton on premiums and you'll have fewer claims which also will save on future premiums.

    Good advice regarding deductibles.

But for mortgage companies requirements, how many would insure their homes?
