The 997 was a S with a -20mm suspension.
Best way to describe it was that is DIGITAL vs. the 996 which is ANALOG. You know what I mean. More precise, direct, from steering to engine response.
I loved the car but I swapped because my company is sending me to Spain and I did not want to bring such a new car. That is why I downgraded to my current 996C4.
Of course driving the 996 is still a great experience, but it took me a while to get used to it.
The interior for a start was million times better in the 997, especially I had the adaptative sport seats, which is a great option. The feeling was great, with the sport suspension it really felt like a go kart. The engine response was great too. I really loved that car. I cannot see any drawback of 997 relative to 996.
Now, I don't know, I am not sure I want a M96/97 engine again, this is why I would rather go for a 996TT than a 997C4 (I need 4WD a bit like you, 365 days driving...).
