    creaking interior - body flex C2S

    Hi all,

    I've recently noticed alot of creaking from the inside of my '06 C2S when parking. The entrance to my garage has quite a slope, as I manoeuver the car (nearside wheel first) the whole car seems to flex with lots of creaking noises inside the car. I'd expect this of a cabrio but not a 997 Coupe:-((

    Hi Jayson. I had to construct a GT3-friendly driveway, so the slope is very easy, but I can still hear some flex. It is only very minimal, but it can be heard. But even a solid ingot of steel has measurable flex.

    The GT3 has a narrow body but a C4S floorpan, so it should be stronger than your car, but it still exhibits small creaks when stressed beyond a certain degree on diagonal slopes.

    I suppose that unless you have bad welds in your car (unlikely, given current technology), the rigidity of it should be the same as any other C2S. If you have more creaks than normal, I think it must be caused by an abnormal position of the trim surfaces rubbing in the interior.

    Thanks for that MarekN. It's only recently that I've noticed it and to be honest I just would'nt have expected creaking noises for such a car. Unfortunately, I can't contstruct a ramp as other Garages are parked nearby. Should this persist, I'll take the car in to establish if this is either normal or me being picky.

    Sorry, I can't help with the creaking your hearing, but just has to comment on how well that car looks...looks gorgeous...

    Thanks ResB. Have lived in Germany for 7 years but originally from Doncaster S.Yorks, small world! Damn creaking is really bothersome. Looks as though I have to live with it but it would be good to hear from others who are experiencing the same.

    i lived in a very small and crowed city called Taipei, and yes i do experienced the same problem as you...

    but you know, i think the car is actually quite rigid because the noise is coming out from the body which is trying to flex under extreme pressure of your car going into a steep slope while turning... in my case, my inner tire usually goes air born.

    it is even worse if i drive a GT3 the entire interior makes noise as well as the body of the car...

    so i do share your pain... but it is not as bad as you think...

    Thanks WR. Great to hear that I'm not the only one. My initial thoughts were that as there's very little travel in the suspension the body has to give a little.

    Notice the same in my car. I have a 1" drop off at the edge of my garage entrance. When leave at an angle with radio and aircon off, I can occasionally hear little creaking. I have a C4S cabrio. You're not alone.

    same thing here, 06 c2s coupe. I decided to live with it. Most of the time when you ask the dealer to fix something like that, they make it worse.

    Same here and I agree about the dealer fixing it. The creak may or may not be gone, but when you get it back you just might have something new to worry about

    I had this with my 996 Targa, but it is much less with my '06 C2S with 15000 km on it.

    I'm sure it is because the car is so rigidly set up, and I would expect it to be worse on a GT3.

    I think that if you want a great sportscar, you can't have a cushy silent dull hunk'o'junk.

    I have it too. MY2005 C2S. My underground car park is full of ramps, one of which puts the chasis under torsion and results in the creaking. However, leave the car out in the sunshine for a while and the problem is significantly reduced (regardless of drivetrain temperature).

    I went through a period of being concerned about it, so I took it back to Porsche East London, but in their usual style were totally unconvincing. They reckoned there was some kind of suspension issue, which they wanted Pounds800 to repair (despite the car being under warranty). I (not very politely) declined.

    I have a friend with a 997TT who has had similar symptoms from new.

    My creaks turned out to be rear suspension. Maybe worth a check?

    Thanks John 999s, but I'm convinced it's interior trim that's making the creaking. It's not in one location it just appears from the whole back of the cars interior. I'll check tire pressures but from what I'm reading this appears to be common. In which case I'll keep it well clear of the dealerships.

    All of my 911's have creaked/rattled at some point but every time the dealer fixed one....they caused another!!
