please let this be a silly one-off

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

This is likely IT because the design language and lines are consistent with Ferrari's recent products i.e. 599 and California.

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

    Yes...this is really IT.

Can't wait to see the offical pics, but those spy pics do not impress me.

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

I don't like it!!!! Too roundish..!!!

Hope the official pics will be better.....  and the official one will be more aggressive....

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

Why would they design a car that doesn't have the same design feel as the current Kaleefornia or 599?  This car ain't no stink'n enzo or F60.

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

I would expect Ferrari to try something different once and a while. Look at the 612 for example, leaves no one indifferent one way or the other.

I think we have to wait for the final result. What we can see now is a rather blurred photo of a black car (a colour which hides the lines as well), the car is not totally visible and some major elements like the bumpers are missing.

This first impression still can change a lot, for the better or the worse. Smiley

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

I wish Porsche would come out with another GT closer to the $250-300,000 price range. It would get my SERIOUS attention.

There are many Ferrari enthusiasts becoming disenchanted with the direction of Ferrari. FWIW, the upcoming MB SLS will attract a number of buyers who have been Ferrari and Lambo clients. It has 565hp, sound of a Ferrari and gullwing doors. It will also have a convertible sans the gullwing doors.

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

Latest news (well, actually not that new...) I heard:

    - turbocharged engine still possible (emission problems)
    - power output 550hp
    - no DCT, but further optimized F1
    - DCT still too big and heavy for the midengined car
    - shifting time reduced to approximately 35 - 40 ms (DCT: 30ms)
    - weight close to Scuderia level
    - price level 200k Euro
    - presentation Frankfurt this year

    Comments, gentlemen?

Hmm... Stefan, turbo engine can not be matched with sequential manual-trust me on this. So, if turbo then DCT is the gearbox for sure. If engine is NA high reving DFI unit then sequential manual is actually logical choice since most people on Fchat wants raw gearbox. I am not one of them-If I want to control the gearbox totally gave me pure manual. Period.

Just, fact is that sequential manuals are dead. Period again. There will be only three gearboxes in the future-automatic, DCT and manual(for purists and true enthusiasts).

BTW, I drove new Jaguar XKR yesterday. Verdict? Best Jag ever. Gearbox? I like that automatic more then PDK. Enough said?

Please, elaborate further. Also take into account the difference in the size and configuration of the Jaguar engine (V8, 5L) compared to the PDK installations so far (flat six, max 3800cc).

The V8, 5L PDK will be first available in the Panamera.

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

Would want to know shape of torque curve to determine real-world acceleration

Not impressed by any mfr's claimed nominal shift speeds; would want to know trade-offs in clutch life, behavior when cold or on steep hills, etc

Lighter weight would be welcome but would want to understand increased risks in passive safety; GT2/3 show light weight can coexist with excellent safety engineering; F's seem to have primitive, non-confidence inspiring safety engineering

A turbo charged car is a real bummer. I wouldnt be interested in it.

Strange they would put a turbo in the 450 but not in the California IMHO.

My bet is N/A motor with improved F1.

Just short comment since it is Off Topic in this thread.

XKR automatic works far better in traffic and slow driving situation then PDK in 997 or Cayman. In Dynamic D mode changes in XKR are excellent-I like the way it changes up and down more then the way PDK do that(even in Sport mode). Throttle dips on downshifts are perfectly matched. In fact gearchanges are in my subjective opinion as fast as on PDK.

Currently, it is IMHO the best and sportiest automatic on the market. BTW, XKR itself is best Jaguar so far. Amazing car. In straight line faster then 997.2 CS PDK. For example from 120km/h-240km/h much faster... Still, it is great GT, not a sportscar.

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

I have to believe the engine for the 450 has already been decided. I also will bet it is not a turbo.

I do agree with the 550hp and probable Scud tranny.

The 450 selling point will be new body design with Scud performance.

I see what you mean, but I think it is easier to match a torque converter auto to a big engine like Jaguars.

Actually, there is a comparative test in this week's Autocar, XKR vs Carrera S.

Similar performance very near price in the UK. Their conclusion is that the S is thrilling on B roads (sports car) the XKR anywhere else (GT car). So it is horses for courses.

They were also complimentary about both transmissions.

Nevertheless, this Jaguar is great value given what it can do. Too big though, unfortunately without the benefit of any better accomodation.

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

Ferrari do not have to worry about emissions and CO2. No real EU directive restrictions or penalties for manufacturers below 10K units per annum.

Silly to do a turbo engine then. If anything they would have done it on the California which is the softer model and not on the pure sports model.

I read an interview to Durnheimer where he said no restrictions under 300k units....so the limit is 10k or 300k?

I already posted some time ago the info about f142... :)
