Well at least they sound good...

As the engine displacement gets ever larger with each successive V8 model , the engine tone becomes less high pitched and ear piercingly shrieky  as the revs climb and more workman-like  low and growly .

The music is being lost .

i love the sound of the 360, but we have to admit that the sound is not bad, its just not as high as with previous models, but with a new car comes a new sound. and in itself it does sound fantastic, we just need to give it a break and stop comparinig it with the wail of the 360.

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

    I would say - it's a turbo !!

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

Sounds way too mufled to be a N/A screammer; sounds like a turbocharged engine as Misha said. I suspect this might be an Enzo-replacement mule. I really hope they don't go down the turbocharged route though.

I believe the yellow test mule and the red one at the end of the video have different engines...the reason: the red test mule has added air intakes in the back.

    I agree x 100!

It's what dissapointed me about the 430. The characterisic wail from the 355 and 360 was gone.

Don't get me wrong, it's still a flat plane crank - so it's going to be shrieky...but's sounding more and more like a lump mill V8 with each passing iteration.

For god's sakes, this nearly sounds like a R8... Where the hell is the Ferrari engine note identity?

I'd rather have a higher revving, slightly lower-displacement V8 twin-turbo instead. Like 3.5L medium compression or something.

Also, did anyone notice the engine cutout between shifts on the Yellow One on track? With a DCT there is no cut-out...it's just a linear decrease in pitch as the clutches switch on/off.

But on the Red one pulling out of the driveway, you could tell this car clearly had had a DCT as it drove away and went up the gears.

Maybe this car will have F1 or  DCT optional tranny? Smiley

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

The fact that you think the red one has DCT might explain the extra air intakes at the back...gearbox cooling (it probably requires more radiators). Thanks, MJSpeed

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

Few comments on F142 from Italy :

    - engine is NA (with more displacement)

    - DCT gearbox

    - rev limit is increased from 8500rpm even higher

NA-engine and high rev limit is a good thing, though I would be pleased with a clever made twin turbo engine as well.

If the DCT will be the perfect gearbox for the new car remains yet to be seen, especially after Kreso's report about the mediocre DCT of the California. Smiley

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

is that a single rear exhaust?? and what's going on with the rear diffusor?

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

Actually that is a big hole with 3 exhausts in it Emmanuel, ala F40. Suspiciously turbo-like...

After 'n' times watching , above  video , I am pretty much sure - it's a turbo .  Those 'engine cutouts' (Heist) are suspiciously similar to the sound of blw-off valves on turbo engines. Maybe Ferrari is going Porsche way - regular F450 turbo and Scuderia / Stradale version NA high revs screamer.

Stefan, NOT mediocre-just NOT better then PDK. Cali DCT is current SOTA in DCT development together with PDK. My problem is that both DCT and PDK are IMHO not any better for daily use and fast driving then Jaguar XKR automatic. On the track of course, DCT/PDK with dedicated programm(specially PDK-Sport Plus is better then esp off programm on Cali DCT) for track use is better.

Somehow I am becoming less and less impressed with DCTs in general. They try to mimic three gearboxes in one package: manual, sequential manual and automatic. Honestly, NONE of them(PDK included) is actually doing that mimic thing right. Try new Jag XKR and you can see how much flawed Cali's DCT and 997S PDK are in  slow city driving, smooth take off etc. Faster you drive DCT/PDK works better, just to me it feels wrong on some occasions. Added surge for example in faster programms... Why? To make sequential manual impression? SmileySmiley

My impression is that DCT/PDK actually require extra attention and concentration from driver to extract maximum from it. You need to constantly play with gearbox settings to suit them to your driving style. Both hands on the steering wheel? My ass... Your left(or right on RHD) is always playing with Sport/Sport Plus buttons on PDK or with Mantinetto on Cali... With manual(my R8 for example) I choose ESP mode and without thinking naturally adjust my shifting speed. H/n/T? Of course, if needed.

No STUPID throttle bips on downshift in front of red traffic light...

Belive it or not BUT, my feeling is that F1 Superfast on Scud is offering more drivers control then DCT in Cali.

In MY, NOT humble at all opinion true driver sporscar needs to be manual. My choice here is simple-R8 5.2 FSI manual or 997.2 GT3. Period.

Re: News on the 430 Replacement

Well you can always drive the Cali DCT in manual...

Having first gen street version of KERS will probably be like owning first gen version street version of F1 gearbox.

kers would not make any sense on a street car. nor on a track car for amateur weekends.

Exactly, sustainable and linear power is more favourable i.e hybrid module found int he S400 which has a very compact battery and in total only accounts for 55kg of the cars weight.
