    GT3 production for 08 and 09

    Hello all,

    My dealer told me Porsche is no longer building the GT3. Is this true? I've been getting some conflicting information so I'm hoping somebody out there can set me straight. I'm close to pulling the trigger on a 997 C2S, but if I can order a GT3 I'm happy to wait. I'm not willing to pay over MSRP for a used GT3 (as matter of principle) nor do I want a heavily optioned car (primarily for cost reasons) so it's hard for me to find one on the market. If I'm going to pay $90k for a C2S and then put $10k into it for aftermarket exhaust and suspension, I just assume get a basic GT-3 for a little bit more even if it means having to wait.

    In the UK we can no longer place a new order through a Dealer for a new GT3. There is a lot of speculation regarding the potential of a new MKII GT3 during 2008.

    My local OPC will take an a deposit off me for a new MkII as they are also convinced there will be a new version in 2008. It's possible, it will be a 3.8 ltr, DFI engine and may even have a slight face lift to the current model, as to what that might be I have no idea, it's just speculation at this stage. One thing I'm being told for sure there will be MkII.

    I'm in the same position as you but already own a C2S but if I were you, if you can wait, then that's what I would do...

    Thanks ResB. I hate to ask this, but what does MKII mean? I've seen the reference elsewhere and from context, I assume it means a mid-platform revision or something like that. Yes? If so, you're saying yes, there definitely will be a GT3 in '08, correct? Facelift and DFI would be nice, but I'd be happy just to order a car the way I want it and I'm willing to wait.

    I"ve been hearing something along that line too but haven't in magazines at all... depending on location and if your a repeated customer, Roland send me a PM...

    Hi! I have just received one of the last 997 GT3 and the info that I was given by Porsche in Stuttgart was that production is finished and the last cars will be delivered in March/April 2008. There will definataly not be a mk2 model of the GT3 until earliest 2009. The facelifted 997 Carrera will roll of the line after works vacation Sep 2009. Rumors say that it might have the sequential gear box which I think will not be ready for production any time soon..

    No more of the current GT3 anywhere as far as I found out. I bought another C2S for the meantime as I could not find a dealer who would take an order which he could fill.

    If you look back at the 996 GT3 mk1 and mk2 you can see the sort of gap and timing of the models in relation to the 'normal' 911's. Also to lift the 997 GT3 power and meet emission targets I think it will need more than just DFI. The C2S will probably get a bit more power and torque and if the X51 comes then its too close the current GT3. So since they are racing a 3.8 litre block now I'd have thought that they will do DFI and raise the capacity to restore the gap and lift the performance again.

    they gonna add DFI 20hp extra for the mk2, but still 3.6 like their Cup cars.

    the 3.8 liter engine is for the 998.

    otherwise they have to change the whole productline.
